  1. Like I said, I hope the Padres decline his option and he can be brought back as as a free agent. He won't garner anywhere near the $3.25M his option was worth in free agency.
  2. The Mackowiak trade saves about $916K this year
  3. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) Jon Link is his name. w00t a 23 year old in high A ball
  4. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:40 PM) Got a name? It could be a Fort Wayne Wizard--Amazing Baseball! Probably Shawn Estes.
  5. Offman just said it's a Class A pitcher. What the f*** is going on with this team?
  6. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:21 PM) Boston is giving a good package for Gagne, hell I would trade Jenks for that. Scraps is all they want to give for Dye or KW is a total idiot! Kason Gabbard sucks.
  7. So I assume Mack will be their new starting 2B or at least a part of a platoon with the suddenly mediocre Marcus Giles.
  8. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's for Nick Hundley, KW actually pulls off a deal that nets us a semi-talented player.
  9. This move opens up a spot on the roster for Darin Erstad!
  10. Hopefully the Pads will decline his '08 option and the Sox can bring him back via free agency, I love the way Mackowiak plays.
  11. "There are also reports that the Red Sox are close to acquiring struggling White Sox slugger Jermaine Dye for Flamethrower Manny DelCarmen and outfielder Wily Mo Pena." I hate you Dan Davis you stupid f***.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) They're 4 games back in the WC standings, and they've been playing great lately. They have just as good of a chance as anyone to win the WS this year. The Yankees will win the East.
  13. Yes, he'll get a whole lot of time at 1B and act as an insurance policy in case Alex Rodriguez opts out.
  14. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) ESPN radio said that the deal is pretty much done... fwiw. Don't listen to that pudwhack Dan Davis, he's known for giving out false information during his updates. He's just going off the original Boston Globe report, he has no new information. I seriously hate that guy, he's terrible at his job.
  15. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:53 AM) Back to what you posted earlier... why aren't the Sox trying Fields in LF? Has it been tried before in the minors and failed? Maybe they just want to get him as much time at 3B as possible, he needs to develop defensively at the position he will likely be spending the majority of his time playing for the rest of his career. At this point they don't even know if Crede will be back with the team next year, it would be kind of silly to take Fields away from his natural/future position to get him some time at another position that he may never even play. LF isn't exactly a tough position to play, if Crede shows up healthy to spring training then Fields can get his time in LF in Tuscon, there shouldn't be much of a learning curve with the switch.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:39 AM) I know he hasn't put up those numbers for a full season yet, but can you seriously complain about the job Owens has done for the last month, in a rookie campaign where he's still learning things and hasn't even mastered the bunt yet? I can't see him ever putting up anything higher than a .650 OPS, no this 93 AB stretch has not convinced me that he's a competent major league leadoff man. If the Sox expect to contend next season I really don't want to see Jerry Owens and his twig arms at the top of the lineup.
  17. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:31 AM) This is what I would do since there is no good offer for Dye even though he is hitting well again and appears to be healthier. And, no, Wily Mediocrity Pena and Mediocrity Delcarmen is not a good offer. Dye's willing to give the Sox a discount. Give him a 2 year deal with an option for a 3rd. 2 years for $ 15 mil. In 2008 play Dye in LF. Sign Rowand (who will also give the Sox a discount) and keep Sweeney/Anderson/Owens to play with them. That's an adequate, possibly very good, outfield at a reasonable price. They don't need to make any deals there. Since they are clearly not going to rebuild, keep the rotation except Contreras. Turn Contreras, Mackowiack and Crede into a young SS with potential and a veteran bullpen arm. That's it. The Sox should be able to contend because Jenks, Thornton, MacDougal, Logan and Aardsma should be better next year along with another veteran. Plus, the guys down in Charlotte will have more experience. Hold onto Haeger and let some other guys develop. This team would have an outside shot at a playoff spot. It doesn't sound real exciting but if Richar and Fields step up it could get exciting. Yeah none of that even seems plausible let alone likely. Apparently everyone is handing out discounts and a combination of old, expensive, meh and incredibly injured can bring you a young SS, that's news to me.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:26 AM) Our OF tomorrow would be Pods, Owens, Pena. WMP should not be put in CF, and is not even close to a threat to Owens if JO keeps hitting well. Ozzie is going to have his small speed guy at the beginning of the lineup. Everyone should accept that, and unless someone can find a better option on the FA market, which I certainly can't see, your choices are Pods, Erstad, and Owens. I sure hope, therefore, that Owens keeps hitting. Or he could get creative and find perhaps a more raw but talented leadoff talent on the trade market. f*** this, I'm not going to be satisfied with Owens, Podsednik or Erstad leading off for a contending team. I'm sick of hearing how there's no one available in free agency, this team needs a real leadoff hitter in order to compete and I don't even consider any of those 3 to be mediocre options let alone competent ones. If he has to he should overpay for some talent, this filling the leadoff spot on the cheap s*** is getting real old. I predicted this team to win 68 games this year largely because of the clusterf*** of ineptitude that this team was set to run out there in the 1 spot this year, I don't see this team winning many more games next year without a guy who can actually produce at the top of the lineup.
  19. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:23 AM) So you are saying that grindErstad is more help to this team than Josh Fields, assuming both are healthy? Wow. Fields is only hitting .250, that's not very good. You need to look past more important numbers like his .744 OPS and concentrate on how often he hits singles like Gimpy.
  20. Well, this kind of sucks. Apparently the Yankees have agreed in principle to send Proctor to the Dodgers for Wilson Betemit. He's going to be a pretty damn good player, it's a shame it will have to happen in New York.
  21. Also according to Levine the Mets, Dodgers and Phillies are all very interested in Garland. The Sox are asking for the top 2-3 prospects from each's farm system, a top pitching prospect MUST be included. Nothing new really.
  22. Well, I am now convinced that absolutely nothing will happen.
  23. According to Levine, the only way the Sox get a second player along with Pena is if Dye signs an extension with Boston.
  24. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:08 AM) im not a scout or anything so i guess i dont know for sure, but laroche has had better numbers at every stop in the minors, and was ranked ahead of saltalamacchia in baseball america's prospect rankings...(19 for laroche, 36 for saltalamacchia).....so i haven't really seen either play a whole lot but judging on the numbers and the experts on BA, i would rather have laroche not that you could go wrong either way...im just saying i believe that laroche is that type of prospect...in the class of or IMO slightly ahead of saltalamacchia Andy's 1.000 OPS at Las Vegas this season is quite impressive though his 15 walks in 38 major league ABs this year is even cooler. That makes him a career .211 hitter with a .436 OBP.
  25. Yeah, I'm sure they just f***ed up the counter they've had up on their site for the past 5 days or so. From MLB: July 31, 2007: Non-waiver trade deadline (4 p.m. ET)
