  1. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 12:16 PM) Southsider...I agree with you. What would the city's skyline be if people b****ed about Mies Van Der Rohe, Louis Sullivan, Skidmore, etc. Things like the Spire, Aqua, etc. make Chicago what it is. Except for that one building on Wacker just north of Randolph...that thing is a monstrosity!!! http://www.google.com/maps?q=W+Lake+St+%26...p;z=18&om=1
  2. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 04:38 PM) Then why not keep Dye if that's all that counts? Pena is also in an arbitration year...he's a rental unless you offer him arbitration. 20 homers, crummy defense and lots of ks really isn't that hard to find. Wily Mo will make about $2.5M next year in his final season of arbitration. I don't see why they wouldn't offer him arb.

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 02:04 PM) saw The Simpsons movie TWICE. Absolutely loved it. Marge swears! Bart's doodle! Ralph sings! Anyone who didnt like it apparently just doesnt like life. Maybe I'm just not amused by cartoon penises. I'm weird like that.
  4. Bobby Jenks could probably bring in a package of players similar (probably a bit less) to what Teix got the Rangers. I'd move him in a second if a team were offering up a deal like that.
  5. I don't buy that for a second. These are the same people who said it was unlikely the Sox would pick up Buehrle's '07 team option because of how bad he was last year.
  6. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 02:33 PM) I think this argument is done...The Willie Mo bandwagon will be boarding over there under the cool breeze of the swings and misses. I do have to wonder...with all this talk about the Sox needing to add speed, get better on defense, play small ball...how come we are linked to all these stinking power hitters out there? First Adam Dunn and now Pena. Why in the hell do we need either of those guys? Carl Crawford (spare me the we can't get him, as I know) makes sense, those guys don't. Then why mention his name if he isn't a realistic option at all? Carl Crawford doesn't make sense because you're right, we can't get him. The Sox have been linked to players that are available for trade, how many guys currently on the block fit the description of a speedy small baller? Micheal Bourn comes to mind and he has been mentioned in connection with a Javy Vazquez deal. Also Coco Crisp has been mentioned, as much as I dislike him as a player he does match the description of the type of guy you're looking for.
  7. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 02:30 PM) The point wasn't to compare him to Iguchi, but to Dye considering how people are running off screaming in the night at the mere thought of parting with a single prospect for him. If being "a rental" is such a bad thing in regards to trading Dye, then how come the Twins were able to get anything for Castillo? (Disclaimer: I don't know anything about the players involved, they could be 30 year old AA players for all I know). Take a look at the post that was submitted a few seconds before yours, that's what I was referring to. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 02:25 PM) It'll be interesting to see what Castillo brings. Can he be considered much better than Iguchi ? He's more expensive and has no power and can't run like he used to. You think they can get more than a Doobee ?
  8. Luis Castillo = 2 draft picks (1 first rounder, 1 sandwich) Tadahito Iguchi = nothing Huge difference.
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 29, 2007 -> 10:03 PM) Not that this is the right thread to discuss it but I wouldnt mind having Pods back as a possible 4th OF or if we have a sure fire backup plan in place for when he gets injured. I'd rather keep Mackowiak around at a very similar price than Mr. Dergen's inept ass. At least Mack can play 2 OF spots well, take a walk, offer a little speed, come through with some good clutch hitting and STAY HEALTHY.
  10. It's called being an accumulator, much like Raffy Palmeiro. He put up an incredibly unimpressive line for his career; .276/.340/.447/.787 but the guy had 11,551 ABs in 3,001 games. If you put up a high .700/low .800 OPS over that many games you're going to accumulate some rather impressive numbers but he never really dominated the league. You take a look at someone like Chipper Jones who's going to put up very similar HR, 2B and RBI numbers along with WAY more stolen bases but a whole lot less hits since Chipper has already drawn as many walks in his career as Ripken did except in half the games. Chipper's career line also shows just how dominant he was unlike Ripken .306/.403/.544/.947. So in the end Chipper will probably have better career numbers than Cal in about 2/3 of the ABs but will never receive anywhere near the same accolades as Ripken, which is really a shame.

I actually went into it thinking I'd enjoy the movie since it seems everyone liked it so damn much. It had a few laughs here and there but in all it was just terrible.

So i saw that there Simpsons Movie today. Can I please have that 77 minutes back? They didn't even make an attempt to put together an entertaining storyline.
  13. He was signed to be the starting centerfielder.
  14. QUOTE(joejoedairy @ Jul 29, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) How come collaro isnt higher on these lists? His numbers seem good to me outside of the strikeouts. He hits for a poor average, he is completely incapable of drawing a walk and he strikes out in about a third of his at bats. He has 46 XBH in 423 ABs in his second year at AA but his OPS is still only .767. Sounds like a non-prospect to me. His minor league numbers remind me a lot of Jose Hernandez's major league numbers only Jose drew more walks and could play passable defense on the left side of the infield. Or how about Juan Uribe if you take out the career year in '04 and add 30-40 strikeouts onto his 162 game average and of course ignore Uribe's defensive prowess at SS.

Saw Rescue Dawn last night. Dear god was that a pleasure to watch, wouldn't be at all surprised if Bale gets an Oscar for the role.
  17. Marcum has actually pitched incredibly well this year.
  18. He needs to be DFA'd, I don't want to see him anywhere near the 2008 White Sox.
  19. And Dubee with 1 IP, 3 K, 0 H, 0 BB in his Kannapolis debut.
  20. That's the farthest ball Jerry Owens has hit in his major league career.
  21. Ty Cobb died 46 years ago, Hawk needs some new material.
  22. And a new low for Scott Podsednik. Instead of the 24 year old rookie getting a standing ovation for his first major league hit he instead has to go directly to his defensive position. Congratulations Scott Podsednik on Ruining the biggest moment of Richar's life thus far.
  23. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) It amazes me how some Sox fans expected the Sox to get anything other than crap in return for crap. Max Ramirez may be in High A ball right now but he is far from crap.
  24. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) They were trying to save face for their original mistake of claiming they could have gotten picks for him. They changed the last sentence, but not the rest of their comments, which is pretty stupid, since the rest of their comments were entirely tied to the last sentence, which was where their mistake lied. There's a reason why I use Rotoworld as an RSS feed and nothing else.
  25. QUOTE(Dan @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 02:38 PM) The White Sox would have been a lot better off getting draft picks in return for Iguchi, but that wasn't possible, as they were going to be prevented from offering him arbitration. What does this line even mean? The Sox would have been better off just taking the draft picks except they couldn't have gotten any picks for him. That's like Saying the Sox should have traded him to the Mets for Milledge and Pelfrey, sure Minaya would never even think about making that deal but the Sox should have done it anyway. Who wrote this garbage?
