  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) I personally think Kalapse is being kind in saying Owens has been mediocre in the lead-off spot. I really should have gone with "putrid" like I had originally planned.
  2. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) if it means signing Rowand or Hunter (the 2 names we will likely be after) hell yea than its okay for him to play LF. By saying that, i wasn't dissing Owens, after all he is doing a decent job being a leadoff hitter and we do need a leadoff hitter going into next season don't we? Josh Fields will put up close to equal or better offensive numbers next year than both Hunter and Rowand and for less than 1/36 the price of Torii and 1/24 the price of Rowand. You can hold me to it. Owens is not doing a decent job at leadoff, he's doing an incredibly mediocre one. And under no circumstances should be be the leadoff man for the 2008 White Sox.
  3. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) If he is the leftfielder next season, he will be pulled if winning in close/late situations. I sure as hell hope not, believe it or not but bullpens -- especially those as terrible as the White Sox's -- often blow leads. You don't take one of your best hitters out of the lineup in the top of the 8th because he's inexperienced defensively. So is Fields a terrible defensive LF now? I didn't realize such judgments could be made after only 2 games.
  4. QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) assuming fields plays Lf for the rest of the season as ozzie said, i dont have any problem with it...its not like missing an inning or two is gonna stunt his development out there Assuming he's going to be playing LF every day next season, it would be nice for him to get some experience playing the position in close and late situations. What's the downside to leaving him out there?
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) I'd assume defensive purposes @ the end of the game? That's f***ing retarded if true.
  6. So why exactly was Fields taken out of the game?
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) In 20 years he'll still be playing. Well, he'll be 43 and in shouting distance of A-Rod's career HR record as well as Henderson's SB record and Cy Young's Wins record so I suppose it's understandable.
  8. Rosenthal has priced Hunter at $18M a year citing Veron Wells' (7 yrs, $126M) and Ichiro Suzuki's (5 yrs, $90M) monster deals as precedent.
  9. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 08:13 AM) But I mean even a not 100% healthy Joe Crede is going to put up better numbers then that. He's averaged around an .800 OPS before this season over the last 2, so his numbers weren't too shabby. Joe Crede averaged an .800 OPS over the past 2 seasons in the same sense that Bronson Arroyo averaged a 3.85 ERA over the '05/'06 seasons -- mediocre for the 1st year and playing way above his career averages in year 2 -- 4.51 ERA/3.29 ERA. Crede hit .250 with no OBP and a little power in '05 but upped his OPS 70 points last season. It's fun and all to say he's averaged a .796 OPS over the past 2 seasons but that's incredibly misleading seeing as how he was mediocre in '05. There's really no reason to believe that if Crede is retained for next season that he'll put up anything better than a .750 OPS.
  10. Drew and Dye have both homered (solo shots) and Richar just flew out to the track in LF. Fields has yet to have a ball hit to him in left. eggciting beisbol gam
  11. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) So Sweeney willl not get a look see in LF? He sure as hell doesn't deserve one.
  12. Brendon has always been a freak of nature it's not like he just blew up this past offseason.
  13. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 10:08 AM) I think Vizquel is starting on the Sox next season. Kenny acquires the players he wants -- sometimes several years too late. Giants of the AL without all the young pitching. That is indeed the likely future. Either Vizquel or Eckstein will be at short and leading off, I'm sure of it. This is going to be a very long offseason.
  14. According to the Score Fields will be in LF for the rest of the season.
  15. I'm going to be so f***ing pissed if they go out and sign Vizquel. He seriously needs to retire, he'll be 41 next year and has been absolutely dreadful this season. John McDonald who is a terrible hitter, one of the worst you will ever see would be a better option, at least he'd only cost about a million dollars.
  16. I wouldn't give Hunter any more than 4 years guaranteed let alone 6.
  17. Kalapse

    Richar

Owens would provide some very nice speed off the bench while acting as the backup CF.
  18. Kalapse

    Richar

He's shown infinitely better pop and plate discipline than mister Owens. He's playing the position of least consequence on the field and hitting 9th, Owens is playing one of the most important positions and is looking like the frontrunner for the leadoff spot in '08. Not really comparable situations in my book. And I'd say Owens' approval rating is somewhere in the 60% range right about now, there's really only a select few that have been giving him a beating.
  19. QUOTE(joejoedairy @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 01:08 AM) this year has sucked beyond belief, i agree with that. i just wish i was here 2 years ago to see what u negative fans were writing every day when we ended up winning the world series some1 enlighten me The site was overall pretty damn positive going into 2005, pretty depressing when September rolled around but picked back up again when the Rally Crede reared it's glorious head. Spending the majority of the season in 4th place and now dead last with an aging core and no minor league system tends to send people in a death spiral of understandable negativity.
  20. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 07:27 PM) Agreed. And we've now added another lousy pitcher to the group for next year: Myers. Myers might not even see September in a White Sox uniform.
  21. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 07:21 PM) Re. Garland, You can't judge anything right now about Garland and the others. The team is a wasted piece of s*** this season. The veterans gave up long ago. I don't know who you want in your rotation, but Garland is as good a pitcher to plug in there as anybody else you are going to come up with. Last place ... get used to it. They're gonna be there a while. If Garland has given up and has put up wretched numbers for the past month and a half because he just doesn't care enough to try anymore then he's a complete fool. With each horrid outing Jon churns out he only costs himself tens of millions of dollars more on that next big contract. Perhaps he's faltering now not because the season is lost but because in reality he's a league average starter and for the first 3+ months of the season he was pitching out of his mind and had to come back to earth sooner or later in order to finish the season with the same numbers he's had since he broke into the league (aside from that anomaly in 2005), a ~4.50 ERA, and ~1.33 WHIP.
