  1. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 11:29 AM) Erstad, IIRC, was hitting just under .300 as the lead-off hitter (before he got hurt). And who's to say that Pods won't get the team going again? OK, maybe we shouldn't have brought him back...but would you rather have Gary Matthews for 5 years? Juan Pierre for 4 years? DAve Roberts? I mean, c'mon, IF he's healthy, he can't hurt this team. Erstad had a .340 OBP as a leadoff hitter when he went down, that'd not good at all. Matthews has been pretty outstanding this year where as Roberts and Pierre have been horrific. The problem with Podsednik is he's never fully healthy, meaning his production is always hampered by some sort of injury and when he is hurt it leaves no other option on the club to fill the role. So just the fact that Podsednik is on the roster tends to hurt the team.
  2. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) over/under: 3 double plays for our offense today? over/under: 2 of them are from mr. double play himself, jermaine dye? Um, no. AJ Pierzynksi has the tyle of "Mr. Double Play" firmly in hand.
  3. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 01:30 AM) If he took most of this season off, he might be close to 100% by 2008. Oh god I hope he's not around next year. He shouldn't even have been brought back for this '07, a 4th season of Podsednik could be enough to kill me. I do agree though, the only real way for Podsednik to get his legs back at this point is probably to just take 10 months or so off and just concentrate on rehab.
  4. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 01:21 AM) Well it's good to know how much everyone wishes failure upon the only guy who even comes close to filling the role. Where did I say I hope he fails? Damn, that was unexpected. I hope more than anything that he can come back and play at full capacity, nothing would help this anemic offense more, I doubt he can but i hope it happens.
  5. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 01:13 AM) When you come up with someone better in our system, let me know. There isn't a single person currently in the organization (aside from a healthy Podsednik of course) with the abilities necessary to be even a mediocre major league leadoff hitter which is a serious problem.
  6. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 01:09 AM) The point is that he has a better chance of being a good leadoff man than any other player we have. True, though it's not saying much when his main competition is Jerry Owens and Darin Erstad.
  7. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 12:53 AM) As much as he is the whipping boy around here, the team kicks ass when he is going well. Let's hope he can come back and get back to doing his thing. I know I say this a lot and you probably don't want to hear it but every team kicks ass when their leadoff hitter is going well. The problem is Podsednik is playing poorly/is hurt more often than he's playing well. That being said he was one of the better leadoff hitters in all of baseball for the first 15 games of the season.
  8. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 12:53 AM) You mean like Juan Uribe in 2 of his 3 years in a White Sox uniform? and God forbid he hit .235; that, in case you are unaware, is 3 seeing eye singles away from being over .240. Actually it's 2 seeing eye singles.
  9. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 12:23 AM) I noticed you updated Crede's position to "DL"... is this purely speculation by you, or do you know something no one else does? Based on his injury history, the way his back has been acting up this year, his current offensive production, the fact that Fields did not play today and Guillen's comments after the game lead me to believe he's on his way to the DL. That and wishful thinking.
  10. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 12:08 AM) Kalapse, I'd like to applaud you on your new sig... mighty fine if you ask me. We really have a splendid offense this year, don't we? It's depressing more than anything and thanks to the All-Star game being held in an NL ballpark for the second straight season our best hitter won't even be on the ballot.
  11. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 12:04 AM) Thats 4 K's, not 4 walks... Oh, he knows that now.
  12. 1 June start: 6.0 IP | 11 H | 5 ER | 1 BB | 2 SO Cumulative June Stats: 0-1 | 7.50 ERA | 2.00 WHIP | .379 BAA Not a good start damn it.
  13. I'm sure he'll be back to full speed after returning from his second Abductor strain to go along with that whole groin issue he had last season. Can't wait to see him get down the line when he gets back.
  14. Ken Griffey Jr. is seriously the most talented player the game of Baseball has ever seen. By age 21 he already had more amazing defensive highlights than most 12 year veterans accumulate over the course of their career.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 10:14 PM) Why, righties hit Rivera better historically. That cutter is particularly devestating against lefties.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) Would anyone else consider PHing here with Rivera coming in to pitch? Um, no. Did the Sox suddenly acquire some bench player that I'm not aware of?
  17. Jim Thome is my f***ing hero, all they do is walk his ass in the 9th inning and for good reason.
  18. Then why in the hell did Rowand fail so often, DJ?
  19. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 09:34 PM) Maybe it's hindsight for you, but I wanted him moved this past offseason, but not for junk like Ervin Santana and Chone Figgins. I've been comparing Joe to Ed Sprague for the past few seasons, it seems Joe is the exact reincarnation only appearing in the league 10 years later. I figured Joe would put up a line similar to .228/.306/.385/.691 this season, this is what Sprague did during his 29 year old season which just happened to follow a career year at age 28 (same as Joe). Sadly Joe doesn't seem capable of matching even these most mediocre of numbers.
  20. QUOTE(quickman @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 08:59 PM) and if he sucks, then what. Then you atleast get a glimpse of him and see if he's ready to hit major league pitching. If he falls flat on his face then KW has to think twice before just handing him a job in the offseason, there needs to be a backup plan unlike what was done with the outfield this year.
  21. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 02:57 PM) I was simply pointing out the irony is a 20-year-old bringing up an issue of "credibility" to somebody who's been following the Sox longer than he's been alive. I'm talking about credibility on here. How do you not get that? Really though, congrats to him on being much much older than I am, that's quite an accomplishment, it's not going to keep me from from responding. That's actually the entire point, no one was called out individually but the board as a whole was. If that person's opinions have yet to be established on the board then how is anyone suppose to respond to that? And as a long time member of this board why shouldn't I take attacks like this somewhat personally?
  22. The funny this is, the best player KW acquired this offseason was a prospect.
