  1. It has to be PNC, that park is flawless.
  2. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 03:51 PM) regarding iguchi's pending free agent status, i'm all for signing luis castillo in the offseason. the sox better sign eric byrnes, tori hunter, or luis castillo. those are impact players we need and one fo those 3 could get us back on the winning track for next season. Yeah a 4th OF like Byrnes is going to turn the franchise around.
  3. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 03:42 PM) who said they were? Fox and Major League Baseball.
  4. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) I am sorry but this is a guy you try and keep. I do not want AAA players. He makes every start and that is very rare. You build a team around him and Garland if you are a serious franchise. Or you could just trade him now for some big time talent and sign him to a big deal in the offseason.
  5. Barry Zito and Nomar Garciaparra are nowhere near All-Star caliber this year.
  6. I DON'T f***ING CARE ABOUT BARRY f***ING BONDS! I'M TRYING TO WATCH A BASEBALL GAME HERE!
  7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 03:26 PM) According to Brenneman we won a World Series in 2006. Why the f*** didn't any of you guys tell me that? Woo-hoo! Defending champs! '06 = 1906 he followed that up with 1917 and '05.
  8. So according to the ESPN broadcasters Iguchi is one of the best defensive 2B in baseball and according to Mark Grace Jermaine Dye plays a flawless RF. Now I'm convinced no one outside of Chicago watches Sox games. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) So Fields hits at least two home runs today, right? Kalapse, any chance that you can expand your contract page to include all the guys? I'm working on something right now, I'm going to include all players on the 40 man roster. I'm changing the look of it a bit so it's going to take some time.
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) I love the lineup today. Same, atleast Ozzie put the best guy for the job at the top of the lineup.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 02:45 PM) That's still better than everyone on our team not named Thome. I honestly don't want Aaron back but I will defend him with my life god damn it. Fun Stat: Tadahito Iguchi has not ground into a double play since May 4th. Apparently you need someone on ahead of you in order to hit into one.
  11. What happened to all that talk from the end of last year about trading Vazquez and keeping Garcia because "he was our best starter down the stretch"?
  12. QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 01:47 PM) good thing we don't have Rowand's .320 avg, 8HR, speed and defense to deal with on top of all our other troubles good thing we don't have Rowand's .320 avg, 8HR, speed and defense to deal with on top of all our other troubles Yeah because he's been kicking oh so much ass over the past month right? 13. Relatively young (Aardsma more so than Mac), very talented, hard throwing relievers with incredibly cheap contracts (Aardsma more so than Mac) will always be in high demand. No matter how much they may have struggled during the month of May (April as well for Mac) they have both had some success in the big leagues and have the ability to be very good relievers for somebody, I'm sure there's more than a handful of teams who would be interested in dealing for one or both of them.
  14. So every player who has started a game in the leadoff spot for the Sox have suffered injuries. Erstad-34 Podsednik-8 Owens-8 Ozuna-7
  15. QUOTE(TLAK @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 10:58 AM) Who is the emergency catcher if AJ is out and Hall goes down? Kong? Mackowiak.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 05:25 PM) I love cherry picking stats. You'll note how you didn't post Podsednik's dominant pre-05 injury SB numbers (remember that 22 straight streak he had right before the break? Anyone else remember how he almost single handedly broke Cleveland's back on the basepaths right after the break?) And on the other side, Lee was, IIRC, leading the NL in RBI's for much of the first half of 05. Both teams got what they needed out of that deal, I think both of those guys deserved to be all-stars, and let's just leave it at that. And Damon's 130 point higher SLG makes up for any difference in SB not to mention the 17 points in OBP. If I really wanted to cherry pick I would have brought SO into the equation or even better yet strikeouts looking. At any rate Brian Roberts' 1.000 OPS kicks the s*** out of anything Pods did in the 1st half and those are only the first 2 guys that came to mind, there's probably more. To say Podsednik was the best leadoff man in baseball during the first half of '05 is flat out false.
  17. Well I guess Kenny Williams can never be accused of not doing enough to bring blacks into the game. What percentage of this year's picks have been black? Anybody know?
  18. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 02:24 PM) Are you really trying to justify that Willie Harris would have won us a championship starting at 2nd base?? Also I'm not so sure Carlos had better offensive 05 than Pods, who was the All-Star I'll ask?? Pods was the best lead-off hitter in baseball fo rthe better half of that season. Again, there is NO WAY we could have signed AJ, Iguchi or Hermanson (no matter how much of a discount some of them came to us at) without these 3 key ingredients to our banner season, we quite simply would not have had the tools. Um yeah, Carlos Lee was a true All-Star that season seeing as how the players and coaches voted him in. Podsednik was voted in after the fact by a fan base that seems to love the "Final Man" ballot. 1st half of 2005: Damon: .343/.386/.473/.859 Podsednik: .294/.369/.344/.713 Brian Roberts: .345/.416/.591/1.007 There are others but 2 should be enough.
  19. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) I love how people think Uribe's D is so super solid! Wow. I guess its good when you compare it to Cintron, but he's one of the worst defensive SS's I've seen in a while. Then who pray tell are some of the better defensive shortstops in baseball?
  20. So what you're saying is the Royals are the only team with a streak longer than the White Sox and 3 other teams are within 3 years of the White Sox currently streak of ineptitude. The Royals are so god damn pathetic 10 top 10 picks (not including '05/'06/'07) over the past 20 years and only one real good player to show for it in Appier.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) I'm still waiting to see in print where Greg Walker actually told anyone to pull everything and swing for the fences like I keep seeing... So then the players are just tuning him out since they all seem to have the same approach at the plate and Walker wouldn't be teaching them such an approach. Perhaps it's time to bring in some new blood, maybe a different voice in their ear would make a difference. Or perhaps it's June 8th and a team with a $100M payroll is ranked dead last in nearly all offensive categories and a scapegoat has become necessary. At this point I can't even watch this team, it's gotten that embarrassing.
  22. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:29 AM) Thome has to play first over Konerko, should he do well he can be trade bait to the NL. Think the Dodgers or Giants could use him. Except for that whole No Trade Clause thing.
  23. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 11:16 AM) ...and yet somehow the Sox, over the past 10 years, are #10 in having their draft picks from the first 5 rounds make the big league team. It should also be noted that the Sox over that time span have generally been competitive (harder for picks to come up,) not cheap (no KC or Devil Rays approach,) and have not given out fishy contract that demand call ups, like the Tigers. But according to all the Mel Kipers here who exclusively look at radar guns readings, K/9, and groundball ratios, the Sox are the worst in the league. Go figure. They seem to be pretty solid in round 2 while still mediocre with sandwich picks between the first 2 rounds. Josh Fields (FAR too early to tell), Brian Anderson, Royce Ring, Joe Borchard, Matt Ginter, Kip Wells, Jason Dellaero, Jeff Liefer, Mark Johnson and Scott Ruffcorn are all 1st round picks that made it to the bigs, it doesn't mean they had any sort of real impact in the league though, I guess it's fun to have your first round picks play well enough in the minors to atleast get a callup but what's the point if none of them really do anything? The Sox have remained at or above the .500 mark for quite a while now (with a few rough patches thrown in there), I do agree it's fun to be so consistently average but their absolute ineptitude in drafting 1st round picks is just scary. I'm hardly one of the biggest critics of the front office but to say the White Sox and their scouts don't deserve to be criticized or second guessed when it comes to their first round selections just seems ridiculous considering their track record. Has any other team had a streak of terrible first round picks as long as the Sox? They haven't taken an impact player since 1990.
  24. QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 08:31 AM) Welcome to the White Sox Mr. Poreda. Now, run and hide because the scouts on this board know more about what should have been done and think your name should be Porcello. Seriously, how many of you guys who are constantly bashing things like this actually know anything? Hmmm, what should we listen to, people who actually have careers in scouting and analyzing, or some wannabes? I agree, I think the Sox' 1st round draft history over the past 16 years really speaks for itself. How can people bash these professional scouts when they continue to churn out impact major league talent year after year in the opening round? Lance Broadway, Brian Anderson, Royce Ring, Kris Honel, Joe Borchard, Jason Stumm, Matt Ginter, Kip Wells, Jason Dellaero, Bobby Seay, Jeff Liefer, Mark Johnson, Scott Christman, Eddie Pearson and Scott Ruffcorn, would be ashamed as would the ghost of Kyle McCulloch if he wasn't busy being mediocre at Winston Salem.
