  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) First of all, who do you actually have the A's giving up there? Bobby Kielty and someone named Taveras for Roger Clemens? Wow. That's a steal on their part. And the Astros are simply not trading Clemens. He practically pays for himself just in the extra attendence they get at that park from having him pitch every few days. Sox: Heager, Phillips, Garcia and Fields Astros: Clemens and Willie Tavares A's: Zito and Kielty It doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense QUOTE(dyenamite23 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) all the astros got other than burke and they're 6 games under .500 in a horrible National League, not hard to figure out why.
  2. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) yeah, and they should have acquired santana, liriano and kazmir back when they were available for so little. hindsight is awesome. It's not hindsight when you say it at the time of the acquisition . . .
  3. Tavares is just a bad baseball player, imagine Juan Pierre but with an even lower OBP.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:46 PM) You can get by on 3/5 of a rotation working. Just ask the Twins. Except the Sox don't have any 2 pitchers equal to Santana and Liriano. Contreras is definetely prone to imploding every now and then and who knows what will happen with Garland. Also, we can't just pencil in Bmac as a gauranteed 3 ERA pitcher, as much as I'd love to you just can't.
  5. QUOTE(Damen @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 09:53 AM) Why not just send Vazquez into the bullpen? BMac would be an obvious improvement. So how is that going to fix the other 2/5 of the rotation that sucks?
  6. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) Nice post. Thome replaced Frank and Everett, neither of whom are "smallball" hitters. Rowand was replaced by Anderson, who isn't a "slugger" in any sense of the word. Agreed that the Sox aren't EXECUTING smallball as well as they were last year, but it's not because of the makeup of their team (Cintron was acquired in March and Ozuna is seeing a lot more playing time this year). It's a combination of the lack of execution in the tight games and the lack of "smallball" opportunities after, say, Vazquez gives up a five-spot in the sixth inning. But it's certainly NOT a lack of "smallball" personnel. Exactly, it's a whole lot easier to play "smallball" when your starting pitching is holding the opisition to 0-2 runs once your pitchers start giving up 5-7 runs a game it's pointless to play "smallball" you have to look for the big hit and that's what this team is now stuck doing.
  7. QUOTE(soxpride77 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) You think the Brewers would take Pods back? I doubt it. They'll want a pitching prospect for Brady, basically.
  8. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) And to answer someone's question "Where did the small ball go?" It went when we traded ARow for Jim Thome. That is such a crock, it shocks me that people actually believe that the loss of Aaron Rowand, he of the .740 OPS and the addition of Jim Thome, a perfect prototypical DH is the downfall of this team. Wow, this is why I no longer go to games, I can't stand the fanbase anymore. - Rowand hustled and was a major cog in the clubhouse, HE WAS WHY THE TEAM HAD SUCH GREAT CHEMISTRY LAST YEAR!!11 - Rowand did hustle, he also struckout 116 times last year while walking only 32 times, give me a break, the guy had 2 very close friends in the clubhouse and guess what they're doing after the departure of their good buddy Arow? Crede's having the best year of his career and Pierzynski has been raking for most of the season. Winning breeds chemistry, not the other way around, funny how when this team was kicking ass and taking names earlier in the year no one really complained about a lack of team chemistry but now that they're losing all of a sudden they miss the presence of the great Aaron Rowand. How the hell did this team lose 13.5 games in the standings late last year? Did Rowand take a break from the team? Did he stop supplying the team with chemistry? Or did he just put up a big fat .705 OPS last September?? Someone explain to me why replacing Carl Everett with a superior talent in Jim Thome, who walks a ton and hits sac flys (two major components to "smallball") made the smartball go away? Hey, guess what? Without Jim Thome this team would have been completely screwed at the beginning of the season when the bats came out relatively cold and the pitching was horrible, JIM THOME CARRIED THIS TEAM. It's amazing when Mark Buehrle, Javier Vazquez and Freddy Garcia decide to suck the best player on this team gets the blaim, yeah that makes sense. Does anyone even remember last season? Do you remember why this team had to play "smallball"? The offense was absolutely pathetic, couldn't put up 5 runs in a game to save their collective life. The pitching (both SP and pen) carried the team for just about the whole damn season, holding the other team to 0-2 runs a game and the offense somehow managed to score 1-3 runs per game over the span, they won every damn 1 run game last year because of this. 2005 Chicago White Sox: Scored 741 runs, Allowed 645 runs. Pythagorean W-L: 91-71 that a -8 differential. Do you know what this means? It means they won a TON of 1 run games, the allowed NO runs last year, amazing pitching but they also only scored 741 runs, not very good. They've already scored 558 runs this year, that's awesome. Now do you want to know why they have been losing, why this team is struggling, why they can't win a damn game? THE TEAM ERA IS NOW UP TO 4.55, THAT IS GOOD FOR 9TH IN THE AL AND BY FAR THE WORST OF ANY PLAYOFF TEAM. The 2005 Chicago White Sox played some smallball, basically they forced themselves to and you know what? They didn't hit any homeruns last year right? THEY HIT 200 HOMERUNS LAST YEAR PEOPLE! Guess what else they did? They scored 4.57 runs per game, by far the worst of ANY playoff team but they also only allowed 3.98 runs per game which was far and away the BEST of ANY playoff team. So they didn't score many runs (4.57) but they didn't allow any either (3.98). 2005 Chicago White Sox Runs Allowed per game: 3.98 2006 Chicago White Sox Runs Allowed per game: 4.80 +.82 run differential 2005 Chicago White Sox Runs Scored per game: 4.57 2006 Chicago White Sox Runs Scored per game: 5.62 +1.15 run differential If the pitching staff would actually be doing its job this year (pitched like people expected) then we would have absolutely NO problem, this team would be cruising and no one would be complaining about a lack of "smallball". If you want to blaim the offense then you better not be using last year as any sort of frame of reference because it's basically a carbon copy of itself except they're scoring a whole lot more runs. ugh
  9. QUOTE(dyenamite23 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 02:09 PM) he's nice but only has 2 stolen bases So? The guy plays all 3 OF positions well with a solid arm and good range in CF, bats righthanded, knows how to take a walk (.386 OBP), makes good contact, has hit lefties very well the past 2 years and is quite available considering the current abundance of good young OF the Brewers find themselves with. I think he's an absolutely perfect fit for this team.
  10. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) Notice how the numbers are still lowers than Pods' numbers. + Defense + Versatility + MUCH better baserunning. Put him in a better lineup and watch him thrive. But we've had this convo WAY too many times. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) Why would we want Juan Pierre when he's even less of a threat to get on base than Scott? And is one of the few players in baseball with a more pathetic arm.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) Here is another name that I would just like to throw out there, that can also play LF. 22 SBs, high OBP. What would it take to get Ryan Freel from Cincy? Any thoughts? You better put extra money in the budget for bail if you acquire Ryan . . .
  12. AHAHAHA!! How hard do you think Jon Daniels laughed at that one? Wow, how can you ask for both Danks and, AND Diamond for basically a project in MacDougal?
  13. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 05:33 AM) With reports the sox are scouting the MIL/Pit games, I don't think Hernandez or Torres would be that much better than what the sox already have. I'm wondering if they aren't there for them [they may be--Torres is decent but signed a big deal in the offseason], then who else makes sense? I'm going with Brady Clark. He's making over $3 mill. He played Mon. in Cf and LF [where he could replace Ozuna vs LHP--he's hitting over .300 this yr vs LHP]. He's that righty hitting OF the sox need. Gload could find himself out of a job. Hasn't Mack played 1b in his career? IIRC, he has. Why take up a roster spot with Gload when Clark would play more? Mack has played a total of 17.3 Innings at 1B in his career with 1 start and did not commit an error. I certainly agree that he is capable of playing 1B if need be.

  15. HEY! The replay of today's game is just starting on CSN!
  16. QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) If you don't know how many games BA has saved us using his defensive skills, why stated "He has been a big reason why we have won?" I like BA, but I will take Soriano AND Pods over BA AND Pods anytime. And the Sox would miss the playoffs, it's fun not giving a damn about defense.
  17. QUOTE(POPPY_HIDALGO @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:23 PM) Josh Fields and Jenks. Macdougle has been brought in to be the new closer. Ozzie is said to be pretty unhappy with Jenks weight problems and is looking to get more lean. At least that's what I heard on the Score today. Wow, it's great that you're not completely making spiff up, I've had the Score on the whole day and have heard no such thing. You know your little bi polar posting style has been incredibly annoying but now you're just suppying false information.
  18. QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:14 PM) I am not talking about his defensive skill. His defense is great. The notion that he has been a big reason why we have won is IMHO bogus! Please tell me how many games that he has won for us using his defensive skills, and how many games he has cost us due to his offensive deficiency in the first half? I like BA as our CF, much better than Rowand. But please stop the cherry picking. How many games did Anderson lose for this team with his offense? Can you pull that one up for me? And who's cherry picking? Cherry picking is not chosing a date like June 11th where it seemed to click for BA and pulling up his stats from that date to today, My question is, how is June 11th any more arbitrary than June 1st?
  19. QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) BA is hitting .333 since the ASG with 2-doubles and now a HR last night. I know it is only 8 games but still... His hitting started to improve a great deal before the break when he ran pitch counts up even if he didn't get on base. His bat is currently not the liability it was in April, May and June. There is no reason to move him out of CF right now. If they deal for Sariono, Pods is the odd man out. He will not move to center field. I think he gets moved to another team for bullpen help. Maybe to the Cubs for Eyre. Brian Anderson since June 11: 26 G | 84 AB | 25 H | 9 2B | 2 HR | 11 RBI | .298 BA | .341 OBP | .476 SLG% | .817 OPS Anyone who thinks Brian Anderson is hurting this team is VERY mistaken, he's a big reason why this team has won any games over the past month and a half.
  20. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) Yet none of these posts were made during the first 5 innings of today's game. Something's fishy Too true, too true.
  21. QUOTE(Jake @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:18 PM) Why the fish does everyone want to get rid of Garcia? The man on the mound at the start of this game is the one who has got to go. Maybe it's because they've been equally as bad this year except Garcia appears to be toast with his unexplained drop in velocity. And who is everyone? Seems like there's an awful lot more people calling for Vazquez' head lately than Garcia.
  22. Can we finally get over the illusion of "Coop Majic"? Isn't this enough proof to eliminate such a misconception?
  23. Never seen that from Podsednik before.
  24. I don't know if this is going to go through or not but after tonight's game, I know KW is going to do something substantial to shake up this team.
