QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) That wouldn't be necessary. Mack can play 1B and 3B, but Ozzie hasn't brought him into the infield yet. LIAR! Mack played an inning at 3B earlier this season.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) Exactly. Didn't Dye play a game at 1st last year? I'm sure if Paulie needed ONE day off, we could put Dye at 1st, Mack in right, and BA in center. Actually Soxtalk decided early on last year that when Kong walked after '06, Dye would be the Sox' everyday 1B.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:53 PM) Someone will need to play first if Konerko ever takes a day off, I'd rather not play Jim there. That's still an incredibly stupid reason to keep someone on the roster, if Kong needs a day off and Thome ain't gonna play the field. Guess what? Cintron, Mack or Widge get a day at 1B.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) Where is Uribe for AL SS? 19 out of 24 the only players worse than him are R Santiago from DET, Thomas Perez, Nick Green, that Figueroa guy on TOR and Ordaz from TB. Pretty f***ing pathetic.

QUOTE(Big Hurtin @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) The one way that it makes sense, is that he CAN get sent down. Who else has options? If they are this desperate, there has to be more action going on. They have to be working the phones. Why is Ross Gload currently on this team? Instead of sending down a valuable player in order to add to the pen, why not let go of the never used Ross Gload.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) He's fifth on the team in walks, despite having like 60% of the AB of the guys above him. BA ranks 58th out of 70 in OBP amoungst AL outfielders. Better than Reggie Sanders, Jay Payton, Juan Rivera and Jeremy Reed. Despite having a horrid batting average, his OBP is still .276 which is also higher than Jeff Francouer, Juan Pierre and Jose Guillen.
-
I still say Ozzie is trying to get him going by threatening to send him down. Ozzie knows how important BA's defense is to this team and how important defense is when it comes to winning ballgames. Ozzie is a very smart guy (well, maybe not when it comes to the bullpen) and he's not just going to sacrifice defense in order to add a minimal offensive upgrade.
-
QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) Couldn't of said it better myself. Uribe has 145 AB's right now (.200). BA has 105. (.171) Uribe only has 11 more hits so BA would have to go 11-50 (.220) just to equal Uribe. This is not even counting the 5 year experience Uribe has over the rookie. Brian Anderson's OBP is currently 37 points higher than Uribe's despite the fact that his batting average is 29 points lower. Ponder that one.
-
I'm predicting a huge f***ing win tomorrow, an offensive explosion and a great start by Garland. . . . maybe . . .
-
Perhaps Ozzie is just trying to get BA going by threatening to send him down to Charlotte through the media. I'm sure Brian has grown accustomed to the luxurious life style that is that of a major league baseball player. He should be scared s***less of having to take buses cross country and eat at Denny's at 2 AM.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:23 PM) He'll argue with you even if you were kidding/agreed with him. You've been officially "Kalapse'd." I didn't think that's what I was doing there. He mentioned Owens and I just threw it out there how Owens has no use to the Sox this year, it was mainly to stop people from bringing up his name again more than anything.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:23 PM) What the hell were the Cubs supposed to be trading to Baltimore for Matos earlier this year? Todd Walker
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:15 PM) Unless Owens is ready all of a sudden or Sweeney is magically healed up and ready, this is a very bad idea. How exactly would Owens help the team right now even if he were ready? Would he play CF or LF? Do you move Pods to CF, a position that he played poorly in Milwaukee and has not played consistantly in over a year? If you do any of these, the team will still struggle big time defensively and you'll see a sudden dip in pitching effectiveness.
-
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) BA has just looked so brutal at the plate. Right now people are just looking for signs of life, but he's not really showing any glimmers of hope. Even Ozzie's comments show he's getting frustrated. Nobody's questioning what he can become in the future, just what he can do to help this team this year right now to keep winning. You're not going to win s*** without a very good defensive centerfielder. Which of these would people most like to see? Pods>Anderson Ozuna>Pods Gload>Pods Pods>Mack Owens>Pods Pods>Owens Pods>Sweeney Sweeney>Pods
-
Well, looks like this is going to be pretty big news too. It was just sort of mentioned on sportscenter as a teaser. I bet we'll be hearing quite a bit more about Ozzie's tirade.
-
QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 27, 2006 -> 10:07 PM) Hows Owens/Sweeney lookin in AAA?? I dunno I always believe we have a diamond in the rough somewhere. Here comes the Griffey/A. Jones rumors... I'll jump in. 1.) Owens is not a CF so that would mean Pods in CF which is a no no 2.) Owens has been quite bad 3.) Sweeney still has yet to develop any power 4.) Sweeney has been playing CF for only a few games, I'm not exactly ready to throw him in CF now. 5.) Sweeney has a bad hammy and was just recently reactivated from the DL 6.) You don't replace 1 rookie with another rookie, for some reason this seems like a silly thing to do. I know you weren't really infering anything but I just felt these things needed to be said before someone suggests something.

If Anderson is shipped out, we're in trouble. One of the main reasons this team has such good pitching is because of the amazing defense that is played behind them. We're going to be seeing outfields of Pods>MackPods

QUOTE(TheDudeAbides @ May 27, 2006 -> 09:25 PM) what are you talking about? Shea Hillenbrand is a great hitter. Yeesh, great might be a bit strong for a career .288 hitter. The guy has a career 100 OPS+, which just happens to be exactly average.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 27, 2006 -> 07:20 PM) Yes. Like your record when starting game threads?
-
Just to let everyone know, I posted in the game threads of the first two Cubs games early, didn't post in the 3rd one. I also posted early in all 3 game threads for the A's series and I did not post early in either of the Blue Jays threads. Coincidence?

QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ May 27, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) I know Erstad's injury prone. Hell, he's on the DL right now. But you'll have a chance to watch him for a month or two here. If he looks okay, and the price isn't much, where's the downside? Are you afraid that he'll take Ross Gload's valuable spot on the roster? On Finley, I'm just looking at his numbers right now -- look pretty respectable to me. And, as for Pierre, he's having a bad year. I know there was a lot of discussion about him last winter. But you're not going to have to give up nearly as much, pay him as much or count him for anything more than getting to balls and catching them from innings 1-7 (Anderson's going to come in anyway), and maybe being an igniter at the bottom of the order, which sorely needs it. The bottom-line is this, guys: having Robby Mack as your starting centerfielder on a championship team doesn't look real workable. (christ, he's f***ed up 3 plays in the last week.) I love what Anderson might be able to do at some point, but maybe not now. So . . . if you agree with these two points, what would you propose? I mean, besides Carl Everett. Steve Finley is currently in the NL, where the pitching is weak and the teams are weaker, look at what he did in his second trip to the AL last year, he f***in sucked. I'd rather not trade for a 43 year old bad CF. But hey that's just me. Juan Pierre is a bad player, the discusssion last year about him, well Soxtalk had a mighty large Juan Pierre thread and I was one of the main people saying how horrid of a baseball player is he is. A pathetic arm like his is not going to help you in centerfield, baserunners will be taking the extra base on every play and every tag play from 3rd will score a run. A run in the 1-7 is equal to a run in the 8th or 9th. He has a horrible OBP, currently a few points higher than Brian Anderson and he can't buy a f***ing hit. All this comming in the NL which I mentioned in the last paragraph, is weak as all hell. Erstad will not be comming back anytime soon he's been on the DL since May 1st and his ankle is still bothering him. He's 1.) old 2.) Expensive 3.) injured 4.) bad. The risk? Paying a pahetic ballplayer a pretty penny and having him hit worse than Anderson. Also, the Giants are currently 3.5 games out in the worst division in baseball. Why again would they trade us thier "productive" CF?

Contreras had 5 starts in April last year, he put up a 3.04 ERA and a .200 BAA, his record? 0-0

QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ May 27, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) Mack can't judge a fly ball. In a pennant race, I guess I'm thinking that's a problem. And, yes pal, I've looked at their numbers. Erstad, Finley and Pierre are all in walk years. They each have some issue with them (Erstad: not a great hitter at this point/health; Pierre: having a really bad year/no arm; Finley: old (but actually hitting; have YOU looked at his numbers?). But that's why you can actually get them. They have experience, having each won a World Series. They'll catch the ball and hit at least a little. And they're going to be batting 8th or 9th -- for crying out loud. Well, Erstad will be really good for you on the DL, which is just about what he does now, not to mention the fact that he's slow as s*** in CF and can't hit worth a lick. Finley is 43 years old and is currently in the NL, last year in the AL he put up a 73 OPS+ and spent plenty of time on the DL, fun. Juan Pierre is just a bad player in general, I don't want him anywhere near my Sox, he really does nothing well right now. As Dan Bernstein would say, he's a "toy player". He's basically a pinch runner at this point. Darin Erstad is old, injured, expensive and bad. GET HIM KENNY!!!
-
QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 27, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) OK -- what about a really desperate move? Pods back to CF while finding a corner outfielder. they're easier to find. So you're sacrificing defense for a possibly offensive upgrade?
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 27, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) Erstadt is hurt, gets paid like $9 million a year, has never hit worth a damn, and is several years away from being a good defensive CF. What Darin Erstad's career 97 OPS+ doesn't excite you? Oh yeah, and 89 last year.
