Its Time For The Josh Fields Era To Begin...........
Kalapse replied to Thunderin'Thome's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Thunderin @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:38 AM) All I can say is Kenny is thinking about doing it. And he knows alot more about baseball than any of us. I was (and still am) a big supporter of Brian Anderson at the beginnning of the season, but I am just tired of watching him either swing and balls in the dirt and strike out or hit the first pitch and its an easy, weak two-chopper to the infield. Something is wrong with the guys swing/mecanics, so let him go to the minors and figure it out. I still don't see where you know that Kenny is thinking about moving a AAA 3B straight to LF in the bigs and moving possibly the worst LF in baseball to CF. Could you maybe clue the rest of us in. -

QUOTE(Thunderin @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:29 AM) I dont think it can be bad. He was a quarterback in college. There for he has an awesomely accurate arm at a position he's never played in his career right? I mean if he could hit a moving reciever he must be able to track down a fly ball, camp underneath it get in good throwing postion then hit a stationary catcher, right? -

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:25 AM) But I saw him make top 10 plays like 20 times! Did you see that play Gary Sheffield made yesterday where he leaps up on the track in right center field and makes that crazy awesome play? Fricken wicked man. -

QUOTE(Thunderin @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:16 AM) I have seen highlights of Pods playing center with the Brewers. And he made some decent catches. I think you guys seriously undeerate him. You mean those plays when he imediately freezes/breaks straight back as soon as the ball is hit then uses his above average cosing speed to get to about 10% of those balls he missplays and dives to catch them earning him kudos from the f***tards on ESPN? The guy is seriously bad out there, if the Brewers had anyone that could have played a half way decent CF, he would have been playing LF for them in '04. The guy also hasn't played the position in 1.3 years, it may not be the best idea to imediately thrust him back into CF right away but I'm sure some quote from Kenny Williams that could be interpreted in many different ways is clearcut evidence that he's on his way back to CF. -

QUOTE(beautox @ May 30, 2006 -> 11:55 PM) waiting for the Podsednik Cant play CF post from Kalapse in 5...4....3....2....1... My input isn't really necessary since just about everyone who has ever seen him play CF knows that he's a butcher out there. -
QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) WOW!! What's his OBP? Hillarious, OPS = OBP + SLG. It's impossibly to have an OBP over 1.000

I'd just like to thank everyone for their kind words and wishes. We've been pretty busy over the past few days getting everything squared away and I've really been able to reflect upon this event. She really was a good woman, not exactly the sweet old grandma type, more of a crazy old Italian woman who was incredibly fun to be around. Her mind was sturdy right up through the final years of her life which was remarkable in its own right. She was at peace with her impendig death right up through her final days which did help ease the pain of losing her and I do feel a whole hell of a lot better than I did yesterday. Surprisingly most of my family has taken it pretty well, I think a lot of them had come to grips with inevitable. These past few days have been about reflection mostly and I feel I have learned and grown stronger from the experience. Also, I do feel I am back to my same smartass self so that's a positive.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 29, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) I say there is a good chance he moves up to at least 25th this season. So you think he'll hit atleast 15 more? Wow, watch your balance, wouldn't want to see you fall off that limb.

I find it so damn pointless for Tiger's fans to sign up at an opposing team's message board and try to debate with the posters of that site as to whether or not thier team is "for real" or not. Last year I had absolutely no interest in what Twins fans thought of the Sox as they kicked the s*** out of every team in baseaball (except Oakland) on their way to the World Series. Opposing team's fans are not going to like your team, it's just the way it is. Soxtalk alone has had how many Tigers fans sign up just to b**** at the people who don't believe in their suddenly "awesome" team? Ignore the haters, if your team really is as good as their current record indicates, you'll have plenty of time in October to gloat as much as you want.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2006 -> 07:14 PM) And as a team they have 4 pitching shutouts on the season. . . . now only 5 behind the Tigers.

Well, my Grandmother passed away last night, she was 94 and it was expected but that doesn't really seem to make me feel any better. I found out this morning at about 2 AM, I havn't slept since and probably won't be anytime soon. No matter how much you prepare yourself for these things, when it finally happens it's hard to not let it adversely affect you.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 28, 2006 -> 11:31 PM) Trib seems to think someone's about to be on the move. I fail to see how sending down a great defensive player at a crutial position and calling up any 1 of 3 scrubs is going to improve the team.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 28, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) I'm afraid I don't see what you're talking about, and I just scrolled back like 40 posts. I think he's just pointing out that SSH2005 is Jabroni and Jabroni is the one that made the Dye sig last year. But I could be wrong.
-
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 28, 2006 -> 10:55 PM) I hate you. Sometimes I hate myself too, this just happens to be one of those times.

So how 'bout that Brian Anderson? He sure does suck.

QUOTE(Felix @ May 28, 2006 -> 10:50 PM) As much as I hate watching Garcia pitch (he always gives me heart attacks), I've grown fond of him. I definitely think he'll have the better year this year, and will have more value on the market, but I think that the Sox are more likely to hold onto him and deal Garland to a team desperate for pitching, which there are plenty of. Even if Garland has a s*** year he'll still have much more trade value than Garcia. Garland is younger, less injury concernes and has better natural stuff. Garcia seriously seems to be the odd man out after this year, atleast as of right now.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 28, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) He was talking contracts. That has to do with Williams... He's just saying that if the Sox hadn't signed him he'd be a free agent after this year. That's all I took from that. There's no criticism of management in there.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 28, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) But thats the point. Garland could very easily been that guy in 07. Kenny has made it VERY clear that he doesnt want to get into bidding wars on the FA market, hence the signings of Garland and Count, and getting Vaz last winter. Williams took the chance on locking up Jon now, and right now he is getting burned. However, the Garland-Contreras situations are basically identical, and Kenny looks like a genius. No one is blaiming KW, he did the right thing. The only one being blamed is Jon Garland. I don't really see the conflict here. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 28, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) I understood it just fine. My point is there's plenty of pitchers that break the bank because pitching's become such a high commodity, especially of late. Even if the season ended today, Garland could pull in just as much as they did, if not more. If Garland finishes the year with an ERA over 6 he will not make AJ Burnett money, I can gaurantee you that. Milton money on the other hand is very likely, $4, $8.5M, $9M is Eric's contract and it seems about right.
-
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 28, 2006 -> 10:39 PM) Carl Pavano, AJ Burnett, Eric Milton, and Jaret Wright say hi. 3.00, 3.44/98MPH, $7Mper and 3.28 say hi. I don't think you understood that one.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 28, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) And if he had another 05 season, he would have been a 60 million dollar man after that. I think its unfair to blame Kenny and Co. for taking a risk on Garland. Its still the type of deal that keeps him around for long enough that we have him for most of his peak years, but also doesnt cripple the franchise as its only a 3 year deal... I don't think anyone is blaiming Williams, I think Garland is taking just about all the blame and righfully so.

I think it's scary that I have the ability to create/affect Soxtalk pop culture.
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ May 28, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) Nothing wrong with being a fifth starter on our team behind Mark B, Jose, Fred and Vaz. Nope, more like a career 100ERA+, 4.60 ERA guy who is a 4th or 5th starter on most teams.
-
It's hiding out with Jon Garland's ability to throw breaking balls in on hitters and Cliff Politte's balls.

I gotta say, this is the most enjoyable year of baseball (outside of the Sox) I've witnessed. Sports talk radio has become enjoyable again thanks to the current state of Cubs fans. Hillarious.
