  1. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ May 31, 2006 -> 09:05 PM) http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/players/playerpage/174699 hes making like what, a million more than uribe? he is an all-star/gold glove ss. i would love to aquire him. 1.) The All-Star/GG thing really doesn't mean s***. Did you know that both Lance Carter and Mike Williams were All-Stars! Hell yeah 2.) he'll make $4.51M next year and has a $5.85M team option for '08, most contracts are back loaded, his follows suit. That is good money. 3.) He's comming off major elbow surgery, no one knows how he'll be when he comes back. He could be a totally different, horrible player. I'd rather not acquire another question mark. 4.) It's not a great idea to acquire an NL hitter for an AL team in midseason, some players are just NL guys and never really adjust to AL pitching. EX: Renteria. 5.) It would cost some serious talent to pick him up, something I really don't want to do is rape the farm even further plus I'm not sure what we'd even have to offer them.
  2. Why would you want an automatic out batting 5th right behind your second best hitter? Also you have 3 straight righties and 2 straight lefties in there which is somehthing Ozzie would never stand for. Plus BA needs to be in there but that's just me. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ May 31, 2006 -> 09:01 PM) someone mentioned that KW was interested in izturis, so how about him? He makes good money now, is comming of major surgery and would cost a lot in terms of talent.
  3. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ May 31, 2006 -> 08:54 PM) Vernon Wells is a Free Agent at the end of this year I believe. He told the Jays he wanted to hold off on a new contract because he wanted to go through free agency. My bet... in the year 2007 Vernon Wells is playing RF for the Yankees or Red Sox. Vernon Wells still have 1 more year left on his contract. He'll make $5.6M next year for the Blue Jays.
  4. QUOTE(T R U @ May 31, 2006 -> 08:44 PM) Do you think Konerko could honestly play 3B for a few games? Move Crede over to SS and sit Uribe when this happens? Honestly, how much do you think it would cost us? No, he really couldn't and it could cost us big time in the long term due to him getting injured over there.
  5. Anyone want to know why Brian should be playing in CF? That's why.
  6. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 31, 2006 -> 08:03 PM) On the banner, what is that last picture of BA? Looks like he's waiting for a pigeon to land on his arm. Looks like a follow through after releasing a ball.
  7. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 31, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) Ya know, I might/will get grilled for saying this, but I think I want the Tigers to win a few while we play like s***. Maybe, just maybe, it'll wake up this team, and light a fire under their ass. WE KNOW this team is capable of winning 6-8 games in a row, or 12 of 15 or so. Maybe falling back a few games will get some urgency back into the life of this team. Let the grilling begin. They were 3.5 back and it made no difference. There's really no upside to falling 5+ games back in the standings. Up hill battles are never positive.
  8. Who gives a s***? It's a f***ing announcer get over it. People have some serious hangups concerning Hawk and it's pretty damn sad.
  9. I love how Mac, Jerko & Harry have obviously never heard of arbitration. According to them there's a pretty good chance Crede could walk after this season.
  10. I almost forgot to post in the Game thread before the first pitch.
  11. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 31, 2006 -> 05:56 PM) We could also put Dye at SS and Call up Fields to play RF. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 31, 2006 -> 05:56 PM) Pablo should probably pitch too, so we get a little more offense from the 9 spot. So what we've got here is the ultimate NL lineup. Pods - CF Iguchi - 2B Thome - 3B Konerko - 1B Dye - SS Fields - RF Pierz - C Crede - LF Ozuna - P Who says an AL team can't play NL ball?
  12. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 31, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) getting something substantial would probably cost Broadway or Sweeney. we've already traded enough of the farm system away. So who's starting in CF for you? Mackowiak? I've already asked this question once today, why not ask it again, do you care about defense at all?
  13. We could always just shift guys around, both Thome and Konerko can play 3B and Pauly could also play catcher, so instead of having to sit Thome or Konerko we could always bench one of Crede or Pierz instead. Also if you can play 3B, you can play LF so why not stick one of Thome, Crede or Kong out in LF, shift Pods to CF and bam no problem. C: Pierz 1B: Konerko 2B: Iguchi SS: Uribe 3B: Thome LF: Crede CF: Pods RF: Dye Awesome.
  14. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 31, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) i'm making a list of all the games he has won for the Sox with his glove this season. It's a short list. None. How can you even say that? If there's a lesser defensive player in CF you don't know how many balls find the grass that normally wouldn't with BA out there, not to mention his arm which allows him to hold runners and stop them from taking the extra base, thus keeping runners out of scoring position. Talk about an unsubstantiated claim.
  15. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 31, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) OK -- I'm out on Anderson. He whiffed too much last year at Triple A, he didn't do much (except for one game against Seattle) last season, he rarely walks and he's been horrible offensively this season. HORRIBLE. Will Young be better in the big leagues? Too soon to tell. I just think the kid has a chance to be special. He's young for Triple A, he's done a good job of controlling the strike zone and scouts say he's every bit the outfielder anderson is. Owens ain't the answer for center field. below average arm, slap hitter, OK routes. Sweeney is a corner outfielder. We need to find a solution to center field -- for 2006, 07, 08, 09. Um, if there's one thing that BA has been doing well this season at the plate it's walk. His OBP is currently .271 which sucks but when you're batting .164 that OBP is actually incredibly high. An OBP that is 107 points higher than your average is very good, it means that the OBP is not average heavy and the hitter is actually taking walks. BA has walked 16 times, that's 10 more times than Uribe in 12 less ABs. It's fun giving up on a player 144 ABs into their career.
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 31, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) What was Joe Borchard called? Chris Young has also had much more success in the minor leagues than Borchard ever had and just because one prospect never panned out doesn't mean he won't.
  17. QUOTE(JenksForPrez45 @ May 31, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) So the Pods in CF and Owens in left idea would be stupid? just wondering Yes, yes it would.
  18. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 31, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) The first step to trying to get better at the plate is taking pitches and seeing the pitcher. You can't do that when you swing at the first pitch, and end up with an out. That's his MO and the MO of most latin hitters. When he's going good, he's roping those first pitches around the park and no one is saying anything.
  19. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 31, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) You really think he's making strides at the plate? You think hes getting better? I don't. I didn't mean not trying to play well, I meant not trying to get better. He's struggling right now, that does not mean he's not trying to get better. I really don't think Juan wants to end up on the bench so yes I believe he is attempting to improve his hitting and I'm not really sure how anyone outside of the coaching staff can say otherwise.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 31, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) Pitching to Pujols here = insanity. Didn't give him a damn thing to hit, walked him on 5 pitches. Ausmus still should of had his right arm out at a 90 degree angle right there, no excuse for that s***.
  21. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 31, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) Definately true about Uribe. He just doesn't seem to try at all. Um, bulls***. What has Uribe ever done to make people think he doesn't try? The guy is not hitting right now and is incredibly streaky but that does not mean that he's not trying. All I ever see from him is hustle and I highly doubt he would have gotten this far without trying.
  22. QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ May 31, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) I know that the awarding of Gold Gloves is a flawed process. My point in bringing it up in Lowell's case is to show that he isn't an ass-clown in the field. While the best fielder at each position isn't always awarded a gold glove, the winner is usually a very good fielder. Every year there are injustices regarding all-star snubs. I don't think Lowell getting voted in over Crede, given thier respective performances thus far, would be one of these annual injustices. If Crede hits .400 with 10 home runs in June and Lowell is still voted in, my opinion would change. I never claimed it to be an injustice, I simply stated that Crede is having the superior season.
  23. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 31, 2006 -> 03:22 PM) Crede is playing the best defense of all the third-basemen. If you try to tell me A-Rod is better at defense, I will laugh, and not even bother responding. The All-Star game does not just reward players for playing good defense. A-Rod has 13 HRs, 42 RBI and a .935 OPS. By the time the ASG comes around that OPS will be closer to 1.000.
  24. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 31, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) If Crede isn't voted in by the fans, you know the entire thing is flawed. Crede is not better than A-Rod so he will not be voted in by the fans. The whole thing is flawed but not for the reason you stated.
  25. Do the Astros ever play a game that doesn't go to extras?
