QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) The only time, IMO, it worked with celebs was the company softball team. "MATTINGLY! SHAVE THOSE SIDEBURNS!" Best.Episode.Evar You can't go wrong when you have multiple Hall of Fame ballplayers playing a company softball game with a 90 year old millionaire coach.

This is very true. A lot of times when a team drafts a player strickly on his "stuff" they don't turn out to be much. It's when you draft one of those guys in the later rounds and strike paydirt that is so much in the minority. But when you do get one of those guys in the 20 something round and they turn out to be an ace that makes your organization look oh so great.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) I disagree, I think the Simpsons gets funnier every year. The plots are genius, and the turns are hilarious. Its the same type of comedy that makes Family guy so funny. On another note, it seems to me that family guy is just doing the same thing over and over. someone says, "oh its not as werid as the time I did x with x" then they fade into a flashback of someone doing something ridiculous with a historical figure or celebrity. I admit its funny, but you cant just keep doing that every episode. How many f***ing times can Homer be in debt to the mob? They just rehash the same f***ing plot over and over. Continuously repeating the same lame ass plot and using the same annoying celebrity guest voices over and over is not ingeniousness, it's laziness and utter stupidity. Formula for every Simpsons plot: 1.) Homer does something stupid 2.) Marge gets pissed. Sometimes leaves him 3.) Homer thinks of ways to get her back on his good side. 4.) A celebrity shows up 5.) A bunch of stupid s*** happens 6.) Marge takes him back after seeing just how much he loves her.

Roy Oswalt was taken in the 23rd round by the Astros back in '96, probably one of the best examples of great scouting and using those late picks to your advantage. Some teams will just take a chance on a STUFF guy in the later rounds who noone really projects to be a major league caliber pitcher. A few of those guys make it and become great players.

How seriously horrible was that Pierzinski trade for the Giants? Joe Nathan, Boof Bonser and Francisco Liriano for Pierzinski who only spent 1 year there and many people hated him? s***, that's a f***ing mugging right there.

Why do they feel the need to overload us with celebrity guests? Do people really watch the show to hear Alec Baldwin do a voice for some poorly thought up unfunny character for the 3rd time. They almost never used to have guest voices now every episode has atleast one, it's f***ing stupid. It's like the cool thing to do in hollywood (not capitalized for a reason) now is to do a guest voice for The Simpsons. I remember when they had James Woods in one episode way back in the day, he was researching for a role as a convenience store clerk and was filling in for Apu. He didn't play a major role in the episode yet was still funny, that's the way it should be done and it should only happen maybe once a season not having 4 celebrity voices in on every f***ing episode, that makes a mockery of the show, which isn't necessary considering how the plots of these episodes make enough of a mockery of this travesty as necessary.

I was looking over an episode list of The Simpsons and found that the last time the show was even remotely funny was at the beginning of Season 11 which was Oct. of '99, 6 f***ing years ago, that was also 130 episodes ago. Also I'm being extremely lenient with this as well, I think the first maybe 6 episodes of that season were kind of funny. It's sad when a show overstays it's welcome by 6 years and 130 episodes.

I'd say about 80% of the people who grew up watching The Simpson agree that the last 4 seasons atleast, it's actually more, have sucked immensely. The episodes are f***ing stupid, childish humor that has no real plot and just attempts to make Homer act as f***ing stupid and outlandish as possible and cram as many annoying, pointless celebrity cameos as they can into each and every episode. They ruined The Simpsons which used to be one of the best shows on television and turned it into some unintelligent, mindless drivel that only a child could find mildly entertaining. It makes me sick to think of what they've done to this once fine show, Matt Groening, James L. Brooks & Sam Simon should be ashamed of what they've done. It actually pisses me off to see that people still support this atrocity that somehow has managed to stick around for 17 f***ing seasons. Oh yeah, all of this is just my opinion and I'm sure there's numerous people that post and read this board that would disagree with everything I just said. However IMO what I stated is the consensus.

The Bears have found their future QB
Kalapse replied to White Sox Josh's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The Bears owe Grossman nothing. If Orton looks good this season and doesn't totally f*** up, he'll be the #1 going into the '06 Training Camp. Grossman has been given the starting knod twice and has relinquished it both times due to injury (Hand Vs Chiefs in final game in '03, Knee Vs Vikes and Knee Vs Rams), I know you're not supposed to lose your job due to injury but when you do it multiple times, you are no longer gaurenteed job security. If Grossman wants to be the starting QB for the Bears ever again, he's going to have to pray that Orton either sucks or gets hurt, then Rex is going to have to prove that he can stay healthy and that he can be productive at this level, which he has yet to do. I'd love to see Rex come back and be a franchise QB for the Bears but I just don't see it happening, right now Kyle Orton is the best QB the Bears have and gives them the best chance to win.lthy and that he can be productive at this level, which he has yet to do. -
This isn't exactly shocking, we already knew there were 3 or 4 teams that were going to make a very strong push for Pauly in the Offseason, I figured the Angels would be one of them.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 01:07 AM) I'm trying to achieve the unprecedented record of being banned without a single post by use of a demoralizing challenge for a member name. How rebellious.
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 12:50 AM) Unfortunately, not all of those banned members are (likely) aware of Soxtalk. When I look at this situation it really bugs me I have to criticize a fellow White Sox board. My hatred for their administrators and their odd, often unfair punishments and rules make it difficult to ignore. If anyone believes beer or myself are lying, or overstating PHG's lunacy, by all means check the Roadhouse thread out yourself and make your own judgments. Not even Iwritecode or Steff could spin this radical move. I find it funny, mainly because I've never had an urge to post there. It's incredibly stupid and in some people's cases infuriating, which makes it all the more funny for me. I've been registered there for a little longer than I've been registered here and yet have 6100+ more posts here than at WSI and the reason for that is Soxtalk is not 100% all positive posts, which is totally necessary, I just dont' understand how you can run a fan message board for a professionaly sports team (especially one with a history as miserable as the White Sox) and not allow any negative posts at all. And then go as far as to keep a list of names of all the people who have doubted the White Sox and ban them for not totally 100% believing in the team is just ludacris.

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) This is only the second time I've brought it up. I haven't posted a lot at all since that game, especially in Pale Hose. I doubt that I have more than 10 posts in Pale Hose since I gave up on this team. These are the only threads that I feel I can voice my opinion because I'd be branded a pessimist if I brought it up in any other thread. You've already been branded a pessimist, and rightfully so, anything you say from here on out is just gravy.

Can't say I'm saddend by the news that the Packers' major recieving threat is out for an extended period of time. -

- Benson had 3 carries and picked up 10 yards. Hard to say he impressed. Ultra small sample size. - Gage did nothing to impress me and I've been the biggest Gage apologist since we drafted him. Orton looked very good and he and Moose seemed to have some nice chemistry working. Honestly the D dissapointed me a little, the early 3rd downs they gave up pissed me off as well as how easily they were run on by Portis and Betts in the 2nd half, they may have been tire but they're going to have to get used to it with this defense. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) He's a system QB, as Toledo makes a living out of throwing short, precise passes. True but I still like him, he's a 6-2 210 pound polish QB with a decent arm and decent legs. Most likely he wount amount to s*** but I just like the idea of a guy like him succeeding on the next level. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) My goodness... On the Packers/Lions broadcast, they were talking about the Lions making a Superbowl in their hometown. Give me a f***ing break. They played decent against a team that played like s***. For all that their offense gets talked up, they scored 17 points. I'm sorry, but I hope Joey Harrington prepares to be on his back this next Sunday, 'cause that's what's gonna happen. Tommie Harris will wipe that smile off his face real quickly... If you watched the game, the Lions really didn't look all that good either, the Packers just looked like s***. Joey just couldn't seem to find any of those big recievers of his, with the exception of Roy. He seems to be pretty comfortable with Marcus Pollard but that's all about to change.
