QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) i listed you 12 guys who i think are all-star pitchers. the one guy you don't think is going to go is bob wickman, the saves leader. i am willing to make wagers with anyone and everyone that cliff politte isn't going to the all-star game. i'll bet ANYTHING on this. The arguement isn't will he go, the arguement is should he go. Completely different thing.

QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) a guy who closes games for a living is more deserving than a guy who holds leads in the 7th and 8th for a living. i really don't understand how you don't get this. Wickman isn't even that good of a closer. Politte is the most valuable middle reliever in the AL this season. So since a closer is more deserving simply because he's a closer than Foulke should go to the All-Star game of Cliff too right?

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 04:21 PM) Nah. They are top 5 for sure. Maybe top 3. I gotta give Minny the best bullpen honors. Look at the stats they do.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) Politte has an ERA in the 1's, and, need it be mentioned again, has allowed 4 of 24 inherited runners to score. And if the most specific you are going to get on ERA is "damn good", you are being far, far too general. Both Mark Buehrle and Roger Clemens have "damn good" ERA's, but Clemens has clearly been superior to Mark in that category this year, putting up an unbelievably low ERA of 1.51, while Buehrle is at 2.48. Politte has been superior to Wickman in all categories this year except saves. It should also be noted that Crain has allowed more runs(5) than Politte(4), though they have both allowed the same amount of earned runs. Politte's RA(run average) of 1.23 is better than Crain's RA of 1.30 There's no point in trying to convince him. He refuses to look at all the stats. And just keeps repeating himself, the argument has become pointless.

QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) alright, well since we're back on ERA, crain goes in front of politte. God Damn it. Look at all the stats of the top closers, WHIP, BAA, OPSA, K/9 Wickman is behind in all of them. You're the one who brought up ERA, I showed you his ERA sucks compared to other AL closers. Politte's stats> Crain's Politte's stats> Wickman Top three closers in the ALs stats> Wickman. You have absolutley no argument here.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) Indians were suppose to have an awful bullpen... i was told this by everyone and they thought i was crazy for thinking other wise. Youngstown Indians seemed to think they had a good bullpen.

NL Voting Update
D.Lee and A.Ram will probably end up starting in the All-Star game. Good to see Beltran dropped from number 1 to #3 in the outfield. Carlos Lee moved up from 15 to 14 as well w00t.

QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) well, with relievers, it's all about how many runners you allow to score, be it yours or someone elses. and the only way you're getting in ahead of a closer is if you are perfect in the inherited runners scored department. because if it's close, i value a save a little more highly than a hold. so wickman, who has 21 saves and a damn good era, is getting in ahead of cliff politte, who pitches the 7th and 8th and has a damn good era. Wickman's 2.79 ERA is not damn good, it's good but not damn good. Take a look at BJ Ryan(1.82), Gaurdado(1.67) and Rivera(0.91) those are the types of ERAs a closer is supposed to have not a high 2. I'm going to go against myself and say f*** Wickman. I hadn't seen his full stats. He can stay home.

Contreras and El Duque
QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) Of course the solution to our 4th playoff starter problem is: El Contreduque Any chance we could just split every 4th game between them?? The trouble would be figuring out which one to have start the game! You could have Contreras go 4 or 5 and then have Duke piggyback him. Usually Contreras is pretty solid through the first 6 and gets hit hard in the 7th.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) OK.. not sure yet. Might just wear my Jenkins jersey instead. I'd go with the Jenkins jersey. Even though it is a C.Lee jersey it's still the Sox and I always hate it when I see Cubs fans wearing Cubs jersey's at Sox games.

Look at the stats. Why should Crain go over Politte? Because he has 1 more win or because he has 5.1 more innings or is it that his ERA is 9 points lower (ERA is very overrated for relief pitchers)? Politte is on a better team, he has a lower BAA, lower WHIP, lower OPSA, and a higher K/9. Not to mention the fact that Politte has inherited 5 more runners than Crain and Politte has had 1 less runner score. Politte is more deserving than Crain...period.

QUOTE(jerseysox @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) he's not better than crain. and if he wasn't a white sock, you wouldn't be arguing this. Easy to say that when you only look at a couple of the stats.

How wrong can you be? QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 10:11 AM) It's all about flying under the radar If we wanted an old backup catcher, why not keep Sandy? In the end, this will not factor in a single win or loss this season. BTW, IMHO, Widger will not be here in July. This could be a giant :finger wakeup call for Davis.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) Thanks. Using my 93 characters, I asked him why Timlin is an ALl-Star over Cliff Politte considering Cliff has a much better BAA, WHIP, and K/9. You didn't use the Inherited Runners scored arguement? That's the most solid.
