  1. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) not hard to be better than Kotsay, but Cantu is only a 90 OPS+ this year... beside that, Rangers got him because Kinsler is on the DL with a groin, that's an injury that can linger or pop up again when Rangers plate late season games or playoffs in a cold weather stadium The Rangers got Cantu because Davis blows, they got GUZMAN because Kinsler is injured.
  2. QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:44 PM) Yeah, and he pitched really well for the Tigers. He's actually pitched a lot better than his ERA suggests this year as well. I'm not sure there's a TON there that needs to be fixed. He gets a lot of groundball outs and a fair share of Ks. He pitched in front of a horrid defense and still would have had about a 4 ERA this year if not for 18 earned he gave up over 6 1/3 innings against the Rockies and Cubs in late April early May. Yeah, a lot better: 4.30 ERA as opposed to 5.00, wow. He also pitched a lot worse last year than his ERA suggests, so it's evened out. Also you can't just erase 2 outings, you can do that with a ton of bad pitchers, take away a few s***ty outings and things start to look better. He's been terrible since the no-hitter, it's not like he's on some sort of incredible stretch aside from a couple bad outings early in the year. You say there isn't a ton to be fixed yet 4 other teams have have failed to tap into that potential, yet we're the special team that will turn him around over the course of 3 days because of our magic pitching coach.
  3. QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:34 PM) I actually like him. Another top top prospect, this guy was #4 overall at one point. Still young, still throws really hard, and except for two really awful games this year, he's pitched similar to last year. We're the FIFTH organization to take on this project. This isn't Contreras or Thornton who were only with 1 org. previously, this is a guy who's been around and dealt away for very little a few times, never staying in 1 place for too long. And now we have to fix him in 3 days time.
  4. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) You have to wait a certain amount of time before calling him back up. 10 days unless there's an injury.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) I don't see a fit with him and the Sox really. Wasn't insinuating that the Sox were involved just pointing out that something interesting was going on.
  6. Austin Kearns was just unusually pulled for a pinch runner. Something to keep an eye on.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:38 PM) What's going on with the KW press conference? Anyone listening? Well KW said that they want to change just one thing with Jackson's mechanics. Sounds like he's staying.
  8. masnBen #Nationals GM Mike Rizzo said the price won't come down on Adam Dunn before the deadline. #mlb less than a minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®
  9. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) Wharris, Dont you know Brandon Allen was Ruth and Hudson was Cy Young. We gave away everything for nothing! DAMN THEM! (haha) Anyways for all the love Hudson is getting, people seem to forget that Jackson was basically untouchable in the Dodger farm system and was considered one of the top future pitchers in all of baseball not to long ago. Hyperbole serves no purpose but to aggravate others. Such a condescending way to discuss a topic.
  10. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/chat/chatroom.html Click Run, then no afterward. Hey how about you join us for a f***ing game time chat once in a while? The f*** is wrong with you?
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) If we were in a pennant race and our 5th starter was a guy with a history of bad 2nd halves and an ERA over 5, and we traded him for a rookie and in the process saved ourselves $10 million+, I don't think I'd mind one bit. Reminds me of how sending Garcia to Philly for Gio and Floyd was structured, except that one was done after a season. Thought I'd just throw this out there again: QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:47 AM) Jackson over his last 5 starts since his 149 pitch no hitter: 27.1 IP, 19K/15BB, 7.24 ERA, 1.94 WHIP .330/.412/.496/.908
  12. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) Guzman was traded to the rangers IMO to make room for morel. Or he was traded because the Nats suck and Guzman is going to be a free agent.
  13. From a Nats beat writer: Adam kennedy at 2B for Nats tonight. Dunn still on lineup sheet in clubhouse less than a minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®
  14. Hey, it worked!
  15. The Nats just traded their starting 2B to the Rangers, I think it's pretty obvious that Gordon is on his way to Washington! Sure KW told him he wouldn't be traded but that hasn't stopped him in the past. (Gio)
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) You guys are welcome to feel that way, but I find that a little sad. I don't need angels, but I refuse to root for the success of complete scumbags like that. I just can't do it. AJ is an "asshole" in the sense that he is annoying, plays a little dirty, etc. I can handle that no problem. But that's a long way from beating up your wife in public. Agreed completely, I just can't bring myself to cheer for a man that I know is a piece of s***. I just can't.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) Mark Kotsay will NOT be DFA'd. He won't. Which really is pretty god damn stupid, Teahan's presence makes him redundant.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) Mutual options usually don't work out. Brian Moehler and Miguel Olivo are the only 2 I can think of off the top of my head.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) I am not sure we know that for a fact yet. There may indeed be money. From Nightengale: #mlb # If deal gets done, the White Sox would send Daniel Hudson and prospect for Jackson, and take on Jackson's entire $8.75 million salary about 4 hours ago via web
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) @BNightengale - #mlb White Sox have Edwin Jackson included in current trade package for Dunn. If Sox get Dunn, then will try to land Astros' Brett Myers God dammit.
  21. QUOTE (Soxman72 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) Does anyone else find it odd that the Sox are not getting any money in return from Arizona? Usually the Sox get money back in a trade and IMO this is a tell that Jackson is going to be move for another player(s). Thoughts? Arizona is in terrible shape fiscally, they're in no position to be kicking in cash considerations beyond 2010.
  22. Buehrle, Floyd, Jackson, Linebrink, Peavy, Pierre, Ramirez, Rios, Teahen, Thornton, Viciedo = $76.45M in 2011
  23. One more fact: If Jackson does pitch well for the Sox next year and they want to keep him around long term, well, don't hold your breath on that one: Jackson is represented by Scott Boras. I believe he, Jones and Viciedo are our only 3 Boras clients at this point.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) Here is what I don't get. If this were really the case... why take the risk of swinging independent trades? Why not do a three party deal all at once? Because Jackson's not going anywhere. Flipping him really makes no sense on many levels.
  25. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:43 PM) Is that you Jerry? Are you physically paying $8 million dollars? Baseball may not have a salary cap but teams still work with budgets, having a $54M starting rotation means we'll have to sacrifice in other areas. If we had an unlimited budget I doubt we'd have arguably the worst regular in baseball as our DH right now.
