  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) MDGonzales Mark Gonzales Walker stepping down after today, said he decided 1 month ago to make decision Walker like you had any choice, you will NEVER have another job in MLB. 3 years too late Good Riddance!
  2. OG once he was let out of his contract last night had NO more authority to make Cora the manager for the last 2 games than I do!
  3. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 07:31 PM) It's official: 11th consecutive season of 200+ innings pitched by one Mark Buehrle. Very nice!
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:30 PM) Alomar has everything the Sox are probably looking for. They loved him as a future manager when he was on the team 3 or 4 times, so familiarity, he's well respected around the game and it would be his first managerial gig, so the price is right, plus not that it matters, I still think he has a place here. Very good points. I knew with JR being on Selig's minority hiring committee Alomar or Martinez would be viable option's for the Sox. I hope whoever the new manager is the culture of the team changes for the better!
  5. Do not understand the rush to give Baines a multi-year deal. He was not going anywhere else. Walker must feel like a sore thumb the next 2 nights and he deserves every minute of it.
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:06 PM) I think I read this one correctly: Chris Rongey Kenny also says he offered to vacate GM position for different job with #whitesox but that idea wasn't received well by ownership 1 minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry® That seems like the Williams - President, Hahn - GM scenario. I guess it wasn't in the cards afterall. KW with his I will move upstairs and run Hahn like a puppet nonsense. KW has done nothing to move upstairs or stay with this team anymore. JR's loyalty is the deathnail of this franchise.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:35 PM) I think the story of the Sox asking for Morrison last year distorted a lot of perceptions as to Ozzie's worth. I agree with that totally.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) No one else enjoys the irony of getting a player back who can legitimately be called "Ozzie"? Guillen said only way he would do a deal to leave is if JR/KW still had to deal with an Ozzie in some way, shape or form!
  9. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) Very nice haul all things considered. Both could be future impact players. Jhan Marinez Marinez, 23, posted a 3.57 ERA, 11.5 K/9, 6.5 BB/9, and 1.1 HR/9 in 58 Double-A relief innings this year. Prior to the season, Baseball America ranked Marinez fourth among Marlins prospects, citing a "combination of great stuff and immaturity." Marinez has a closer repertoire, wrote BA. Osvaldo Martinez Martinez, a 23-year-old shortstop, hit .245/.296/.322 in 371 Triple-A plate appearances this year. Prior to the season, Baseball America ranked him fifth among Marlins prospects, saying he profiles as a "solid No. 2 hitter" with a strong arm, good instincts, and soft hands at shortstop. At that time, BA saw a future as a versatile but quality utilityman the worst-case scenario for Martinez. I was hoping for a top end prospect, Florida minor league system is ranked just as bad as the White Sox. Martinez could be a utility infielder and Jhan a 7th or 8th inning type guy. Maybe I just got my hopes up too high on this one expecting a better return. It is not a terrible return it is what it is!
  10. Per minorleagueball Jhan Marinez, RHP, Grade C+: Another fireball guy to fill out the pen.
  11. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) Cooper, who hasn't managed in the Sox's system, will be assisted by first base coach Harold Baines. The decision means that Sox bench coach Joey Cora likely will join Guillen in Florida. Cora lives in South Florida in the offseason and has interviewed for several managerial positions.
  12. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) I wonder if and when the Marlins and White Sox play interleague games, will Ozzie order his pitchers to plunk Done and Rios for getting him fired. That would be funny. Florida in Florida and Sox in Arizona for Spring Training.....................not happening!
  13. I voted anxious. I am only 2/3 happy............OG and Walker will be gone, but how many manager's does KW get to have he needed to go, most GM's only get 2 manager's then they get fired!
  14. Thanks MB for the title......................If you get a chance to pitch in STL good luck.
  15. 10/02/09 1:29 AM ET Marlins Minor Leaguer shot in Puerto Rico Wounded in drive-by attack while driving through hometown By John Schlegel / MLB.com Osvaldo Martinez, the 21-year-old Marlins Minor Leaguer who was shot several times in a drive-by attack in Puerto Rico on Wednesday, was the innocent victim of gangsters battling for control of drug distribution in public housing projects, according to The Associated Press. Police spokeswoman Maria Rivera told the AP that Martinez was driving through his hometown of Carolina, just east of the capital city of San Juan, when he was shot three times because it "seems that [gunmen] confused him with another person." There have been no arrests. According to the report, Martinez was recovering from surgery and in stable condition. Emergency room physician Dr. Benjamin Rodriguez said his "wounds did not have complications and they did not injure organs." The Marlins released a statement Wednesday night about the news: "The Florida Marlins are aware of a shooting incident involving Minor Leaguer Osvaldo Martinez in Puerto Rico this morning. At this time, we are trying to get more information. The entire organization's thoughts and prayers are with Osvaldo and his family." Signed as an 11th-round pick in 2006, Martinez played in 130 games for the Class A Jupiter Hammerheads of the Florida State League, batting .254 with 54 runs scored, 45 RBIs and 16 steals. In Puerto Rico, Martinez played for the Criollos of Caguas and recently began playing with the Arecibo Wolves. Got to say he is tough to be shot 3 times and make it!
  16. Per Rotoworld Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reports that Osvaldo Martinez will be sent to the White Sox along with a minor league pitcher in exchange for manager Ozzie Guillen. Martinez, 23, was an 11th round selection in the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft. Known more for his defense than offense, he batted just .245/.296/.322 with three home runs and 26 RBI in 371 plate appearances this season at Triple-A New Orleans. He can't really be considered a prospect. The trade is expected to go final on Wednesday. Per Florida top 10 2011 ML prospect ranking #7 Osvaldo Martinez, SS, Grade C+: A good year, I can see him as a steady contributor, don't be deceived by small sample size success in the majors. He's more of a .250-.270 hitter with a fair OBP. I really thought Sox could of done better than this IMO, but then again it is KW at the helm.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 08:20 AM) Lol@Ozzie deserving a statue. Is there a Phil Jackson statue at the UC? Is there a Mike Ditka statue at SF? GMAB. Or a Greg Walker statue.............oh wait..........never mind.
  18. "The Florida Marlins believe I am the right man for the job to bring another World Series to South Florida. And just as it has always been with me, winning is my only mission,'' Guillen wrote. "It's good being wanted and more importantly it's good knowing where you stand. Although it's sad my time with the White Sox has ended, I can't tell you how thrilled I am to be a part of the Marlins organization. I have an unbelievable amount of respect for the Marlins, owner Jeffrey Loria, president Larry Beinfest and general manager Michael Hill. I can't thank them enough for this opportunity and look forward to the future. I can't wait to get started. This was taken down shortly after being posted! OG Florida ass kissing bulls*** underway.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 12:19 AM) Go look at the Ozzie appreciation thread...almost everyone has. You beat me to say it.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 12:00 AM) My point is ... there will be no rants in Florida. He's passionate about the White Sox because he loves the White Sox and grew up a Sox player. He was the face of the franchise the last several years and bleeds White Sox black. There's no reason for him to go off in Florida. He'll be liked by the media but nobody gives a f*** about baseball down there. We won't hear anything from Ozzie Guillen down there. If they win it all, we'll see him in the postseason, but he ain't going to be going off about anything down there. Baseball is dead in Florida. Unless of course the new stadium means sellouts every night and baseball frenzy. I don't think anybody expects that. He bleeds green only.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 11:34 PM) Hawk made a great point about how much of a distraction Ozzie making his desire to have his contract extension during a 5 game win streak for the Sox might have been. Hawk talks now but sat in the booth all year kissing OG ass all year!
