  1. QUOTE(JPN366 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 11:40 AM) The Barons sure do need him. Is that a pic of Micah you have? That's Micah from two years ago during his first stint with WS when he still was at third. Your pic is much better.
  2. Schnur last 9 games: .457, 8 rbi, 4 walks, 0 Ks and 0 chance of moving to Birmingham
  3. Warthog radio is reporting that Aaron Cuningham was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks today.
  4. Fields will not see the minors again. He's up for good.
  5. With all the attention given the draft, our All-stars may have gotten over-looked. Three Kannapolis Intimidators and three Winston-Salem Warthogs made their leagues All-star teams this year. The three from Kanny are Chris Carter, the 20 year old DH, Francisco Hernandez, the 21 year old catcher, and Fautino De Los Santos, a 21 year old right-handed pitcher. The game will played in Rome, Georgia on June 19th. WS's three include Aaron Cunningham, the 21 year old outfielder, Micah Schnurstein, a 22 year old 1st baseman, and Cole Armstrong, a 23 year old catcher. The Carolina League playes the California League and this years game will be in Stockton, California, home of the Stockton Ports. This game will also be played on June 19th. Here is a link to the Caroilina League web site talking about the three Hogs (nice picture of Schnur). http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...sp&sid=l122 I beleive the AA Allstar game in July 9 and the AAA game is July 10.
  6. Here's a stat for you. Schnurstein now leads all of baseball (majors and minors) in both doubles and total bases. He has already hit more home runs this year (10) than all of last year (9). He still has areas to work on. He has not walked in two weeks. Is he just a late bloomer? We won't know until he gets back to AA.
  7. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 12, 2007 -> 03:22 AM) Agreed 100 percent on line 3. And no, Schnustein is no more a prospect than Rogowski, but hopefully he stays hot so we can dump him off to somebody else as part of getting something nice in a trade, avoiding giving up a better prospect (which we should have done with Rogowski). And I am still not sold on Garza. We probably should have took him over Broadway, but I'm not sold. Right now Schnurstein is probably the best trade bait in the orginization. He still is only 22 with nothing left to prove at high A. He already has hit more home runs (10) this year than last year (9). Looking at the corner infielders at Birmingham, there isn't much reason to keep him where he is.
  8. Quite in Potomac. Players on both sides were fine $100 by the league. Victor Mercedes was suspended for 3 games. The league commissioner will be at most of the series. Extra security was in place. Supposedly the commissioner said that if anyone causes trouble thery would be suspended for 35 games. Only fireworks were homeruns by Schnurstein (his 6th) and Allen (his 1st).
  9. I still have my "Southside Hitmen" T-shirt (safely mounted behind glass) hanging in my den. I got Nancy Faust's autograph that year, and I still have that as well. I remember the signs in the outfield saying "Pitch at Risk to Richie Zisk". It was a great time, (but no world series!)
  10. I can't find a full box score on the White Sox/Birmingham game. Anyone got one?
  11. Tommy has also worked very hard to improve his defense. He has an top notch arm in the outfield.
  12. I just watched Leo play his first 3 games back at WS. It took him 3 games to get his first hit but that HR went A LONG ways. Remember that Leo came to the Sox last year from the Tiger's AAA team. They placed him a low A Kanny but Leo never complained. This year he was having a monster seasom at WS when he was called up to Charlotte. There he found (just as Mike Spidale did) that those guys play with zero team concept. Both those two are happy to be playing for a team where everyone works together for the good of the team to win. Leo is a tremendous offensive player and an OK 1st baseman. He has played some 3rd, but that has beeen brutal to watch. As someone else pointed out, DH/1st is a tough place in this organization with Konerko, Gload, and Rogo. Still, Leo (who turns 26 next month) is an absolute class act.
  13. Here is a prediction for next year! Birmingham's infield: 3rd: Josh Fields (still could use some seasoning at this level) SS: Robert Valido (obviously) 2nd: Micah Schnurstein (look for the move in the off-season) 1st: Leo Daigle (Rogo at AAA)
  14. What was a weak spot (3rd base) two years ago is now a strenghth. Josh Fields is listed as 9th, and Micah Schnurstein should be near (if not ahead). A comparison of the two has Micah ahead in average (.291 to .248) and combind slugging and on base percentage (.805 to .750). Both have 30 BB but Josh has 99 SO to 64 for Micah. Both have a boatload of errors and both have 12 HR. Josh is playing AA while Micah is only in high A, but Micah turned 21 two days ago and Josh turns 23 in December. Neither should see a promotion this year (with Norton at AAA) but both should move up one notch next year. With the trading deadline coming, which has more trade value, the #1 pick at AA or the # 7 pick at single A?
  15. maybe, just maybe Anderson. Other than that, nobodys safe.
  16. C Ryan Hankins 1B Casey Rogoski 2B Antoin Grey SS Andy Gonzalez 3B Micah Schnurstein OF Brian Anderson OF Mike Sweeny OF Thomas Brice SP Brandon McCarthy SP Daniel Hagwood SP Gio Gonzalez SP Kris Honel SP Felix Diaz Alt Wes Whitler RP/SP Ryan Rodriguez SU Ehren Wasserman SU Matt Smith CL Jeff Bajenaru
  17. Kanny is playing great ball right now. They've won 9 of 12 and are 13-3 on the road second half. Antoin is their player of the year right now. He has been solid all year long. But should he go up? No. This group is in 1st place with 40 games to go. Keep them together and let them show they can be winners as well as prospects. Schnurs had a great second half but is going nowhere as long as Fields hits .240 with 6 errors in 30 games. Daigel and Bounds are doing well but until Rogo goes up, there is no good reason to move them (I have personally watched Rogo play several games, and he is simply a man among boys!) Wasserman could go up with his funky delivery but he now leads the league in saves. Young has 18 dingers but still is batting .250. Let these guys finish together and try to win the league. Most will be at W-S next year anyways.
  18. He is sick, didn't make the trip to Lexington.
  19. Who is this Whitesides? I heard he was an Astro farmhand.
  20. I'm not sold on this. I just can't see Carl doing that much for us. I was unimpressed last year, and he wasn't as good this year as he was last year. Hope there is a buyout at the end of the year. Maybe that's why money was included. Watch Rauch blossom in Montreal.
  21. Las Vegas is a hotbed for Sox baseball. Hankins (UNLV) was 2 for 5 tonight and is batting .296 for the season. Schnur (Basic HS) is hitting .411 in the 14 games since his all-star break. And then add Frank and Aaron Rowand live here as well in the off-season!
  22. Wow, I see the picture, and I do remember Lorelei! I still hear Sky Daniels when I am in L.A. He is on a radio station there now.
  23. 25 years ago I sat in my dorn room in River Forest and watched the game on TV. People forget the the White Sox announcer was Harry Carrey (and Jimmy Peirsal). Harry was so impressed withg the size of the crowd during the first game. He told the other radio stations that had special nights at Comiskey Park that they were going to have to really work to do as well as WLUP. He never imagined what was coming! And yes, I still have my LOOP t-shirt!
  24. Schnur 3-4 tonight. Hitting streak at 12 games. He hitting .396 over those games! Kanny playing well but the few mistakes they make really hurt them.
