DJ trying to take some heat off the offense. Stating that our pitching should just buck it up, and pitch out of their minds and dont allow the other team to score. 4 runs a game we score. When was the last time 4 crossed the plate. -

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) Clemens must have been legit hurt. I mean if you're the NYY you wanted him to pitch against this offense, they do have the work for the pitchers Why do you think Halladay came off the DL early. -

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) This game is about to be OVA! Bullpen time. Who will stink it up tonight? The minute the 4th run scored, the game was over. We dont score more than 3 usually. -

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) I'm seriously beginning to think this is as good as it's going to get with this team this season - the occasional 3-4 game winning streak, followed by weeks of mediocrity. I would accept a medicore offense at this point. -

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) Great, Wang has thrown 68 pitches, so good job in working his count to get to that Yankees BP 4 hits through 6. -

How many of our guys have been cut down at the plate with about 5 or more feet to spare. Lets reverse that. How many 60 mph dribblers have our OF arms have thrown in, that come into the plate 5 feet after the runner scores. -

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 09:00 PM) I wish there was a way I could sell all my tickets back at face value or exchange them for a year when we have a team. Imagine the poor guys who have the weekend packages. Every sunday is a loss. -

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) It's unreal that basically once the opponets score their 2nd run, the pitching staff basically has to hold them there, a 3rd run and the game is over What was the quote in late April. When the weather gets warmer, then there will be a reckoning, a payback. LOL -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) I'm shocked we've beat this Yankees team 3 times this year. They have bad pitching, but they can still hit. The game still requires you to score at least one more run than the other team. I thought they said we scored 3 or less run in 24 games this year. -

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 08:47 PM) with wang having trouble finding the strike zone, why in the hell would mack swing at the first pitch? this guy's a veteran? Its cold. They are depressed. Flip their cards. perfect storm. Its cold. Dye fell down. I had these flashbacks to the old lady falling down, pessing the medic alert button. I have fallen and I cant get up. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 08:46 PM) So would David Riske....it's just one of those years. Thank god we didnt give him arbitration. Those extra draft picks would be too much on the mind tomorrow. -

A walk, and the next guy puts the first pitch he sees in play. This in a nutshell is why this team cant score runs. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) Yeah, but their minor league teams might give us a run for our money. A good GM could get value for Dye still. However, if we wait another month and he's hitting .225 with 15 homers, we're not going to get anything good in return. It's painfully obvious he's lost a step. He's also my PTGODLN (Pick to go on DL next). That will be the excuse card that Hawk and KW will peddle in the offseason. We just had too many injuries. -

QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 08:37 PM) KW is a good salesman. Hopefully he can get some talent in return when he does finish his act. The only chip we have is Buerhle. Thats it. Dye???? Trading an aged, bad defensive power hitter who isnt hitting doesnt reap the large bevy of prospects. -

We are teetering on some historic futility with our offense. 4 games in the win column on the mighty royals. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 08:20 PM) Man. What a difference. I remember in DG 17 years ago just walking through the swarms of them. Living downtown, i literally havent seen a single one, not a signle body, not even one crushed on my car. I live in Downers, and south of 63rd street, you may see a few. North of 63rd street and they are out like crazy. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 08:18 PM) is there actually Cicadas over there? Because I live in the city and I have yet to see a single one of them this whole summer. In Elmhurst, Hinsdale and that area, they are out like crazy. Nice glove, open your eyes next time. -

The Reason This Team is Bad, and Yes: It's Ozzie's Fault
southsideirish71 replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 08:33 AM) there's are any number of reasons that this team hasn't played well. when things are going this way it's extraordinarily simple to just say "it's ozzie's fault" or "it's kw's fault." certainly they are accountable for this current mess, but i tend to hold the players most responsible. here are a few factors i'd point out. key players performing well below their career averages: konerko, dye, macdougal, and iguchi in particular are really underperforming at this point. all were expected to play integral parts of this team but instead they've mostly flopped. their issues are exacerbated by... injuries: yeah, i said it. people hate this excuse but c'mon. we've now had (in succession) podsednik, thome, erstad, and crede head to the dl. now there's no doubt these players themselves (excepting thome) have debatable overall value to the team depending on who you ask. that said, you can't jockey the top three players in your batting order with regularity and not expect that there will be some kind of residual effect. it's the bullpen, stupid: wow our bullpen is bad. this goes on kenny. the fact that we currently have bukvich, day, and prinz on the major-league roster is not a good thing and just emblematic of how bad of a failure this year's bullpen experiment has been. aardsma, sisco, and macdougal have all imploded leaving us with a a huge gap. the fact that we've mostly replaced those guys with journeymen is not helping anything. the kids can(t) play: some teams can weather injuries or players not meeting expectations. many times they do this by bringing up young players who at least don't appear totally overwhelmed here. while sweeney looked good in spots, it's been a long, long time since we brought up a product of our system who provided an immediate and noticeable boost to the big club. that has to change. anyhow, my two cents. If the offense is medicore in April and May we can tack on about 6 or more wins onto our tally. The offense is to blame for our place in the standings. They decided to take April, May and it looks like June so far off. The bullpen has been bad, but we dont score runs. How many times have we put up 3 or less runs, in the American league. You need to score 4 or more to have a chance to win. We should be scoring 5 or more with our park, and with the guys we have. -
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 01:12 AM) I'll tell you this much: Many Sox fans were pining for the Texas Rangers hitting coach as a replacement for Walker over the past 8 months. Look how well Texas is hitting now. Perhaps he should be fired as well. What are you talking about. Texas started out horrible and picked it up. They improved. The whitesox have gotten worse. Texas was 11th in the MLB in runs scored in April. In May they were 6th. Their top hitters started to come around in May Texeria and Blalock are hitting well over 300 in May. The sox on the other hand have gotten worse. We were 24th in April, and were 30th in May in scoring runs. If we scored the runs that Texas did, we would of had a hell of a better record than we do now.
