  1. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) 37. Aaron Poreda, lhp School: San Francisco. Class: Jr. B-T: L-L. Ht.: 6-6. Wt.: 240. Birthdate: 10/1/86. Scouting Report: Poreda wasn't on the radar screen in high school; he focused more on football as a defensive end/tight end. He did pitch a bit, even tossing a no-hitter, but was awkward and had suspect arm action. In three seasons at San Francisco working with pitching coach Greg Moore, however, he has developed into a first-round candidate and one of the nation's hardest-throwing lefthanders. Poreda works off the fastball almost as much as UC Riverside's James Simmons (No. 47), and like Simmons, it's his only above-average pitch. While his fastball was flat and 89-90 mph in his 2007 opener, he has been consistently in the low 90s since then, touching 96-97 and regularly hitting 94. He throws plenty of strikes (though he lacks true command), and with his 6-foot-6, 240-pound frame, he should prove durable. He doesn't pitch as downhill as he should at his size, in part because of his low three-quarters arm slot. Poreda's arm action and lower slot make his breaking ball a fringe-average pitch at best, though it has improved. He has the makings of a changeup but hasn't thrown it much, sticking to his fastball. He had experimented with a higher slot to aid his breaking ball, but the move cost his fastball some of its late life and was back to his old slot. W L ERA G SV IP H BB SO 7 6 2.89 14 0 100 93 18 66 I am shocked that he played football. Thats totally unlike our team to select a former football player.
  2. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) OMGROSSO! Smoker, Main, Porcello still on the board. Porcello or Main. por favor.
  3. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) Down goes Savery. Update your draft board, Flash! Slavery has already had labrum surgery. We dodged a bullet there.
  4. QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 02:53 PM) Danks is a Boras client, are you sure about that? Danks is represented by Boras.
  5. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:58 PM) yeah, but its not like we would actually take a tough signability guy, right? Spend the f***ing money, no more Broadways and Mcculloughs, and other 88-90 mph clones because they are cheap and easy to sign. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 02:00 PM) Who knows....for some reason, I think we'll go with one of the three guys who were supposed to be top picks, Savery/Brackman/Burgess Burgess is Joe Borchard II tons of power, cant put the bat on the ball.
  6. Mike Murphy will start to blow Vitters and over analyze him on the radio for the next month now.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:18 PM) 1. David Price-Tampa Bay Very shocking.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:14 PM) I read his scouting report....and he seems like he's nothing special. I just can't see how Reinsdorf will go against Selig's wishes about slot money. Doesnt Tampa need starting pitching.
  9. Wait till we get the 20 minutes of video, and breakdown by the BBTN crew on each pick.
  10. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:02 PM) I have to say if our draft board is Bumgarner, Withthrow, then Jackson, our scouts haven't been doing their drop these last several months. I honestly don't know much about Withthrow, since his name has seemingly come out of nowhere, but watching video and browing several articles it's obvious we're expecting projectability out of his arm. He sat 90mph on the scouting video. Good curveball, though. If the first pick is made by 1:30 I'll be shocked. This has all the makings of a typical ESPN event. If we see a fastball that tops out at 90 and a good curve, then Kenny was filling everyone with bulls***.
  11. A large useless bug that makes all sorts of noise just screams baseball entertainment to me.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 12:17 AM) Where the hell is SSI71 when I need him? I know he'd have my back on this one. Hello Jim from DesPlaines welcome to the Whitesox post game show. "Chris, how do you stand the crap we see. Its June, where is the offense. How the hell is this team not hitting. Is Greg Walker looking for a new job yet. I am a season ticket holder and I am sick of this crap....and" Well Jim, you know what will make you happy. A triple threats gift card. "A triple threats sports card? Chris you didnt answer my question. When is this team going to hit? Why is Greg Wa...." Well it seems that Jim got disconnected. I know its a common thing for fans to try and find blame. I talked to Greg Walker, the best hitting coach in the history of baseball earlier about it. And he reassured me that when the weather heats up, so will this team. This has been a perfect storm of injuries, unseasonably cold weather, and a large amount of Johan Santana like pitching we have faced. No other team has faced the challenges we have. But good news, we are a 2nd half team. Thats right sox fans. When you think of the 2nd half, you can count on a strong sox team pulling away. I like our position, and I agree with Jon Garland as we will run away with the division. Its not possible for the offense to go on like this. If you flip their cards they are all allstars. I fully expect each member of the team to hit 900 for the rest of the year, and pitchers should be afraid very afraid to face a team like this. Its a lion, about to pounce and tear a team up. It just gives me chills thinking about how many runs this team is going to put up. It could happen tomorrow, it could happen next month. Just remember to be patient, and keep coming to he park and it will happen. Next caller
  13. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 11:37 PM) He's a mock draft from Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus via CNNSI.com. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/base...ctus/index.html If Porcello was available (like Goldstein thinks) for the Sox. I would be so pissed at the Sox's organization. To turn away the best high school pitcher in arguably the best high school pitching draft class in recent memeory, would be sad. Hopefully, he's available and the Sox take him, but if they didn't... Although, Alderson is a guy I really like. Imagine if Brad Radke threw in the mid to upper 90's, and that's what Alderson could be. SICK. I want the sox to take a high school pitcher with outstanding upside. Alderson fits that. This draft is so deep, we can get a number one type this late in the draft. If Kenny picks up Borchard II aka Michael Burgess I will start a campaign for his head similiar to my campaign for Walkers head.
  14. If attendance goes into the dumper this year, the payroll will drop. The payroll and the attendance are mirrors of each other.
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 10:45 PM) And it appears the tumbleweeds are poised to make a return to USCF in 2008. They haven't been close to selling out these Yankee games. Brooks is about to earn his money.
  16. Ozzie started the post game interview with laughter. Just keep throwing them out, thats all he can do.
  17. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 09:33 PM) So glad our top prospects can come up and continue their hitting ways on the major league level. The formula is simple. Spot low and away, and let them get themselves out. Sinkers, changeups and especially sliders are almost not hit stuff compared to our guys.
  18. Fields pulls it to the SS. Thats a whitesox prospect right there. Gets the bat out in front of the ball, and pulls it.
  19. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 09:31 PM) wow Tampa has one less victory than us.
  20. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 09:27 PM) It's almost funny how EVERYONE we throw on the mound, except Jenks and to some extent Boone now, gives up a run. They pepper the same area over and over and over. Its called going to the well too many times.
  21. The Yankees would be better off keeping Abreu instead of trying to trade him for Dye.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) unreal... Hawk, DJ, Farmer and Singleton can talk up Wang all they want, fact is he came in with an ERA over 4.00, I'm so tired of struggling pitchers facing this offensive and magicly finding it Mr. Clippard would of had a hard time getting out of the 3rd against the Barons. 87 mph straight as an arrow fastballs down the cock.
