  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 06:30 PM) He had groin issues last year. He won 17 I think in 2005. He's only signed for 1 season, and for a 5th guy, a veteran who doesn't walk a lot of people, I think he would have to be considered. I doubt they do. If he was free, sure. But if you have to trade anything, especially anything of value for a 37 year old pitcher with some groin issues who's era has been rising over the last 3 seasons, then its time to take a flier on something else. Wait for the eventual ST releases before you do that.
  2. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 06:21 PM) If they traded him and got a guy like Lieber, I'd be fine with it. There is no doubt in my mind though that Charlie would outperform Danks and Floyd in the 5th spot in 2007. Considering all of the White Sox overhyped prospects from the late 90's on, you know the prospects as a whole that were ranked #1 and ultimately got KW the farm director, the GM job, the one who wasn't as hyped as all the others, who had the biggest success, was Buerhle, hardly a flamethrower. Haeger has a reasonable chance to have a Wakefield-type career. Lieber is a 37 year old pitcher who got rocked in a horrible NL. I think I will pass on that.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) I'm not saying, I'm just saying.....that sounds a lot like another lefty we recently traded to the Cubs. Cotts only had one and a half pitches with horrible control and relied on a deceptive delivery. Not the same thing at all with Danks. Danks has the tools but needs a bit of refinement.
  4. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) 1-2 pitch that caught too much of the plate for a guy like Branyan. Truth be told, Danks needs just a litttttle bit of fine tuning, and I'd like to see that in AAA. Lets look at Danks's MO. He is the youngest at each of the levels he has gone to, he gets touched up a bit at first, then makes an adjustment and then does very well at that level. It kind of makes his overall numbers look not that impressive, but if you do splits he does pretty damn good. I figure the same thing will happen when he comes up. He just needs to hold his own a bit, until he does unlock it and then he should be real good. The talent and the stones are there.
  5. At what point does the anti-prospect poster come in here to tell us all of our prospects suck and we should employ over priced vets he forgets suck and are paid a lot of money.
  6. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 04:05 PM) Their lineup is going to be ridiculous. What I've read is that they are going to go Blake/Garko at 1B along Nixon/Blake in RF and Dellucci/Michaels in LF. I figure they can probably get Garko about 350-400 ABs, so that should be more than enough. I am still not sold on Borowski as a closer, or Carmona..etc. Borowski did in last year in mammoth park, he failed a physical at the Phillies. So something is not good there.
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 03:51 PM) Yeah, he kept it to nearly the minimum. 4 K's through 2 innings is not bad at all. Uribe nearly made the play to keep it to 1 run but it was tough in the hole in short left. Couple lucky infield hits is nothing to worry about. We also have to remember, Danks is a 5th starter, not a number one yet. So he will give up runs, he will make rookie mistakes but remember when El Duque was our starter and was absolutely miserable at the end of the year getting decked. If Danks can do a good job, keep us in games great thats all I want from my number 5 starter. I just dont want people thinking that he is going to throw shutouts just yet.
  8. Well it was a grand St. Patrick's day, and probably a bit boring for the most of you. I watched my son today as my wife was working, and then we went to mass and then to dinner at my in-laws for some corned beef, cabbage and champ. Later on I promised my brother-in-law that I would go with him to the Kerry Piper to see some band play, and make fun of him attempting to pick up drunken girls. Just got back from Kerry Piper in Willowbrook. The outside tent, was overcrowded and too smoky. People were having a good time, and there was a few people drunk, but nothing out of control. I went there to see the Larkin and Moran Brothers play, who put on a good show. I didn't touch a drop of alcohol as I was the designated driver and I figure that I was a sitting duck for a pull over. Watching my brother-in-law shoot, and miss a few times was enough entertainment for me for the night. His selection was a bit missing this time as it seemed that either the girls were engaged or married, the other ones either had their own gravitational pull like most small planets do, or they were on the scary side. Now that I am home, I will break open a Guinness and pour me a pint. Hope everyone is safe.
  9. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 03:55 PM) This is one boring-ass game! Hawk can paint any pitcher as the resurrection of Catfish Hunter or Cy Freakin Young we humble our bats into sleep. The minute you get Hawk talking up a pitcher on the other side, you can count the number of hits on your one hand.
  10. Walk states only in the last month did our guys have a problem with their offense. He must of been drunk as a skunk during August then.
  11. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) Last week was the St. Patrick's Day parade in Mt. Greenwood. It's one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen. Children drink alcohol in front of adults and police officers. Thousands of people fill a neighborhood that isn't made for thousands of people, and then they go into random yards and piss all over their trees, bushes, side of the wall and all those things. Wonder how many people will be alcoholics when they grow up in part because they were taught that drinking heavily on St. Patty's Day when you're, say, fourteen years old is okay, which is something I particularly witnessed: a girl that age chugging shots while a policeman cheered her on. By all means, though. Celebrate your day, if this is something you're into. I have been going to the Southside Irish Parade for a long time. I was raised on a 107th street. I have seen some high school kids, some college kids and some adults imbibe and some get stupid, but I haven't seen children getting drunk or this Sodom and Gomorrah that you speak of. Everyone doesn't get pissed on the sidewalks. Do some people get out of hand, sure just like any event. There are neighborhood parties, and its a fun event. I doubt if there is a correlation in alcoholism and St. Patrick's day. And to be really honest in America its a different celebration than it is in Ireland, where its mainly a religious holiday. Now of course Dublin and a couple of other cities have figured out that there is some money to be made and have started to commercialize it a bit.
  12. Have a safe and fun St. Patrick's Day. Have a pint and enjoy yourselves and be safe. Sláinte is táinte! "Health and Wealth" to you!!!!
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 09:29 AM) Agreed, that's a lot more likely. Perez serves no purpose on the Sox roster, and if he is there instead of Terrero or Anderson, that goes against not only logic, but what KW and Oz have both been saying (that they need a real backup CF). Keep telling yourself that Perez serves no purpose when Santana, CC, Cliff Lee, Rodgers, and the rest of the lefties are shutting down Thome killing our attack. To me Perez needs to be on this club, or we will have another aenmic attack against lefties and we will wind up short again. We havent had a real good right handed stick off the bench to counter the lefties in a while.
  14. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) I like to be optimistic about going into the season, and I have watched enough spring games to have good feelings about alot of guys. But Jenks has shown NOTHING to make me think he will be a solid pitcher this season. I think he should be, just based on his last season and a 1/3, but I guess it's nice having something to look at in ST and be encouraged. Real nice bunt by Josh. I remember bham talking about how in the minors Jenks would start out at 95-96 and then by say June he was hitting triple didgets. However with the weightlifting crap you can seriously change the way your body flexes and if you cant throw free and easy you have a hard time getting velocity. If Bobby is in the upper 90s he will be fine, if he is mid and below he wont be the closer long. He doesnt have the control to pitch effectively in the mid 90s and below.
  15. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 06:03 PM) Bobby has been awful this spring so far. I know last time out he might have been working on something, but it would be nice to see SOMETHING encouraging. In the next two weeks he needs to start working on flamethrowing again. He doesnt have the control to work 93-94. When you throw 97-99 with a hook its hard to stay back on it.
  16. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 06:01 PM) he needs his fastball back in the high 90's he needs to start throwing more and in the offseason work on flexibility. I thought I heard him talkin about lifting weights again. What f***ing pitcher lifts weights. Run yes, throw yes, pump iron no.
  17. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) What a horrendous inning Talk about kicking yourself in the balls. You walk 2 and give up a hit, recording no outs. Just dumb. Throw the freakin ball and make them earn their way on.
  18. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:58 PM) Not a good inning thus far for Jenks. Bases loaded, 0 outs. He needs to start throwing strikes.
  19. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) Cubs are number 1! WOOOOOOOOO!!
  20. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:47 PM) Just getting back. Update on the score anyone? Grinder Nation 6 - Homeless mascot who had his teeth fixed nation 3
  21. Roberto Novoa is spanish for Kyle Farnsworth.
  22. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) If his name were Boonito Lopez I guarantee he'd be going to Chicago. This sounds similiar to Rossindo Gloadriguez that used to be on our team.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:24 PM) from NSBB.com referring to Brooks Boyer Dont look down at him. He is motivated. When a kid like that posts something about socio-economic status its pretty deep. When he is cutting my grass this summer trying to make something of himself I will make sure to throw in the extra 50 cent tip to make sure that he can escape the poverty that seems to plague sox fans. LOL
  24. QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) they need to turn off the mic that is picking up the dude yelling "cubs! Wooo! Cubs! WOOO! ect." That homeless tool was probably down there about 2 months ago prepping his woo crap. When he shows up at the Cell with his goofy cub pajamas and dumb woo call, hopefully someone wont let him in the park.
