Danks line, 3 innings 2 hits 2 runs both earned 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. I would like to see it against the starters.
-
And Danks has given up 2 runs in the bottom of the frame, with it still going.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 05:09 PM) Not necessarily the scouts. moreso the coaches. And we determine it by the stuff I just talked about. The coaches understand that just because Floyd has a high ERA doesn't mean that'll be the case in the regular season and vice versa on Danks. Now, if Danks keeps throwing strikes and keeps walks down chances are his numbers will be better than Danks and they'll ulitimately choose him. Unfortunately, everyone, or most everyone, knows that he could still get demolished once the regular season starts. I would say that this means more for vets, because of an established pattern. They realize that Garland has a body of work, so his numbers may not project it. However with the kids competing you have to compare apples to apples.

You can put it on the board, Terrero hits a dong off of Francisco. 6-5 bad guys.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 05:05 PM) By the pitches he throws. By how he attacks the strike zone. By how he goes about it mentally. The coaches understand what to look for. So if one guy attacks the strikezone and gets out without getting rocked and the numbers show it, compared to a guy who attacks the strikezone and give us doubles and runs.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 05:04 PM) Danks has thrown 2IP 1BB 3SO, but unfortunately like everyone else in Arizona, ST numbers don't mean anything, whether good or bad You have 2 players competing for one position. What exactly do you use to compare them then.
-
Danks is done with the 2nd inning. He has 3ks in 2 inning. However just as I thought, the scraps are in there to face him. Its not an objective comparison. He needs to start an away game.
-
Next time out Danks needs to start a game. Preferably on the road, against a good hitting team. Its the best formula to get the best competition from the opposition.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 04:49 PM) So everyone does realize that Mack is playing LF today right? LOL Thats changed then from the info we received.. In the original game day, and the original lineups they had Erstad playing LF, Terrero in RF, and Mack in CF. Thats more like it then.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 04:38 PM) I think Corwin "maddog" Malone is in. Well hopefull maddog is sitting on the bench in the next inning. I would like to see how Danks fairs against some of the regulars. Maddog can get some work in on the side later. Watching Danks beat up on the 3rd stringers shows nothing.
-
The 4th ends and Danks gives up no runs, on no hits. Well I think its Danks, the dumb box is saying Malone. Strike that, they let Floyd go 3 and 2/3s and Malone relieved him. Now the only question is, how many regulars will Danks face.
-
6-4 going into the bottom of the 4th. I am assuming Danks is coming in.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) SSI, when you say 6-4, do you mean Texas scored an additional couple runs or have we added on? Floyds line 6 runs 6 earned 2 walks 1 k 8 hits

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) 4-4 6-4 MLB is slow

QUOTE(ptatc @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) Maybe Ozzie wants to see how mentally tough the pitchers are to pitch over mistakes made by fielders. Sometimes this can be a good mark for a pitchers. Do they hang their head? Do they glare at the feilder. Do they fall apart and give up a big inning> I thought about that, but its a hard thing to define. How does this work. When you have a person playing CF, probably the hardest outfield position, your first step really defines how you get to the ball. A person who isnt confident in the position such as Mack may make take more chances early in a game, but may lay up on a ball allowing for a lot more balls to fall in later in the game. Its hard to give even billing for that type of fielder in CF. These are 2 contact pitchers, and all things being equal its hard to add bad defense behind them as something to distribute equally.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) You people are joking, right? You are seriously joking? It's spring f***ing training. Get over yourselves. Ian, The only issue that I have with Mack in center today, is that you have 2 kids fighting for a job and you want to give them the best opportunity for success. Having someone play a position that they are not comfortable at with 2 contact pitchers on the mound is not the best for success. Its not a big deal in the long run, but you just want to evaluate it with the best light.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) Mack's probably in CF due to the fact that the Sox are playing a "B" game today too. Terrero who is playing RF probably plays a better CF than the corner OF in centerfield today.

Ozzie keeps showing us that learning from the year before is not his style.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 03:03 PM) Oh, I think you know. Do you think Tracey will get to throw in this game?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 01:47 PM) They have? Teams were running at will on all our outfielders last year. Anderson has a strong arm, but it's not very accurate. He didn't throw out a single runner on the bases last year (even if he had some assists, it was from cut-offs, etc.). To be fair, its not like any of our OFs have been tearing it up with OF gun outs in a long time. Dye had a nice trick when he came over, fake the throw into 2nd, and then throw behind the runner as he turns around. Andersons arm is strong, but accuracy is not there. So he needs to either hit the cutoff guy, and hopefully someone is running the show in the infield to call cuts, and to call the tag placement. Or he will need to work on the fundamentals of making the throw, in the best possible place for a tag.

Robin Ventura hit .179 his first cup of coffee in the bigs, then he hit a whopping .249 in his first full season. If this board existed back then, everyone would of been saying what a bust, this guy sucks, lets replace him with a vet or another guy. Brian Anderson may be a decent OF, or he may hit like crap. But you have to give the kid a chance. If he sucks, then replace him. Erstad was signed for as the security blanket for if Brian sucks this year. If he is bad or has a real bad start, he will be replaced.

Blumm who cant hit just ripped a double. Yuck Oneli Perez is warming up.

I think someone needs to remind Aarsdma that pretty much the Padres have a hard time scoring runs. They are not known as an offensive powerhouse.
-
Aarsdma is doing a right handed Cotts impersonation.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) Crede tried to slide around the tag at the plate but failed miserably. Was it good to send Crede, or was its a Joey Cora special where the ball is at the plate and guy is half way to home. Aardsma gets jacked, 2 run shot. 4 zip Camo Wearer's
