QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 02:53 PM) Alright, you made my point for me. Thanks for saving me the time. I hope Sweeney gets a hit tonight, or he will be labeled a bust at 21. Sweeney is my favorite prospect. He probably has the best looking swing that I have seen on a prospect. A prototypical line drive swing. I hope the kid gets off to a quick start, and maybe we can have Pods watch a few games more from the bench.

QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) Wow a Felix Diaz team photo.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) I'm not ripping Bobby at all, I'm just trying to make a point. Greg thinks that Thornton is a bad reliever because he gave up a run in a game he saw. MMac is in the same boat. I tried stats and that didnt sink in, Thornton, MMac and Jenks have been great all year long. Our back end of the bullpen is pretty damn good. Guys like this are very hard to hit when they are on, but they have 2 weaknesses, 1 is being wild. Hard throwers at the end of the pen can get wild at times, the other thing is the propensity of giving up the dong. If you make solid contact on a 97 mph fastball it goes a very very long way. I feel good with the back end of our pen.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) Seems like you're giving Bobby a free pass from yesterday then. If he doesn't blow the save then Bmac doesn't even pitch. Dude let it go. Yesterday he was lamenting that we didnt pick up a guy like Aaron Guiel to be a better platoon than Mack in center. Couple of problems with that, 1.) Guiel is not a CF, and would make Mack seem like a gold glover in CF. 2.) He is a 33 year old career .240ish hitter who was released by the Royals 3.) He is hitting what .215 or so for the Yanks this season. At least if you are going to platoon someone, make sure that they are hitting better than the defensive guy that supposedly cant hit. I am about as big of a Bobby fan as there is. Bobby was given a 1 run lead and blew it, and was very lucky not to have been tagged with the loss there. He had nothing and hopefully brings his A game next time.

GAME THREAD: White @ Red

Hopefully our guys can adjust to the barage of low and away breaking crap and changeups that they will be fed in this game from a lefty. -
2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread
southsideirish71 replied to greasywheels121's topic in 2006 Season in Review
On the crappy lefty we are going to face tonight. We actually got video of him," hitting coach Greg Walker said. "I watched him the other day. There's a lot to be said for that." Well Grego you have video of Julian. How about this, stop with the lift and pull crap and start having your hitters use the entire field and maybe we can rock this joker. You are telling me that we cant scrounge up video of minor league pitchers when we face them. How about this Greg, have someone in the Whitesox organization purchase a milb.com gamecast account and then capture the video. A few bucks, and a freeware capture engine and you can analyze some more pitchers. Worthless, good for nothing....... -
QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) Sorry, but as painful as the second half of this season has been, Ozzie still has some slack left on my rope. The phrase "2005 World Series Champions" still brings a smile to my face, and I'm still grateful. I'll be disappointed if this team doesn't reach the postseason, but that's all I'll be - disappointed. Not angry, not hateful, not lining up for Soxfest to rip anyone a new a**hole. Everyone on this site has been crying for The McSavior to start, but the last three times he's been put in a pressure situation, he's gacked. Is that Ozzie's fault? Or is it McCarthy's? Point is, the players aren't producing this year. They did last year. THAT is the difference. Ozzie had Timo last year, he has Rob this year. He's the same guy, the same manager. The results are different so far, and that's the difference between a great manager and a crappy one. The difference between this year and last year is not the manager. But the pitching staff. Our manager wasnt good last year. He made bad decisions all year long, and was lucky to have the best pitching in baseball. I am happy that we won the WS last year, but it wasnt because of Guillen or because of some tactician move that he made. It was due to the best damn pitching in all of baseball, and a offense who was bad for most of the year suddenly getitng hot as a group.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) How can you not like this guy? Great comments in Sun Times by Oz. Its easy. 25%, thats about the amount that our starting 9 have played together as a unit. Mack in center more than 1 time in a week. The player says he doesnt feel good playing there, he feels he doesnt give the team a good fit in CF. The manager then states I am playing him because change is failure. His handling of our pitching staff Cute quotes in the paper might move you, I am moved by a manager who makes the correct baseball decisions and gets wins.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) DA...what's your opinion on the Jenks and his lack of consistently velocity this season? He's only been in the real high 90s about 1/5 of the games he's been in. Last year, he was in the very high 90s a lot more often? Do you think it is due to just wear and tear on his arm over the year, or might his conditioning be preventing consistent performances? He's had a very good season this year, but I hope he can hold up the rest of the way. He went from having his best stuff of the season (Sat night) to his worst tonight. I would say its lack of consistancy in getting work. With the O and how our pitching has been. We have used him wierd this year. 3 inning outings. coming out every game for a week, then not at all for a while. I think he needs a better conditioning program for the offseason so he comes to pitch next ST. Also they need to get him more innings in ST as he says it takes him longer to build up arm strength.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) His whip and baa are better than Bobby Jenks, and his era is only 0.02 higher, and the guy probably thinks Thornton sucks and Jenks is the greatest. And the answer to our CF platoon problem is a 33 year old guy who cant play CF, cant hit, cant run, and was released by the Royals earlier this season and has a worse batting average than the guy he is supposed to shore it up for. f*** stats, numbers are the devils code anyways. Alligators are ornery because they have a lot of teeth and no toothbrush.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Good point on Brady Clark. I was just watching the Royals game and saw Guiel was 2-2 for the Yanquis and it made me realize how much I liked him as a player in KC. Hindsight being 20-20, we really did need to make a move or moves at the trading deadline to spark us. Oh I forgot we did add MacDougal who I hated watching up close as a member of the Royals. You are ga ga over a guy hitting .216 who is a career .243 hitter. I am confused.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Sounds good. Anybody have any idea if this guy was really on the trading block? Or what the Brewers were asking for? He is a 33 year old player making 2 mill a year, and they traded for Lance Nix He is a rental pure and simple.
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) Noppe. Jenks did blow the game but he's been good all year, unlike Thornton, Cotts and MacD who I can't believe some are so infatuated with. And Jenks didn't completely blow it. He only gave up the one run. We still coulda won it, but nooooo BMac comes in and BAM! But he's being misused so he's getting a free pass from some. Thornton 3.40 ERA 1.22 WHIP .222 BAA How is this not good. Again

QUOTE(jkrem32 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:36 PM) Point the finger in the direction it should be pointed--KW traded Young, whose future is "unknown" but has potential for a player with a "known" past that defined him as a 500 pitcher. He gets paid to not make these mistakes. Aaron Guiel is not a CF, he cannot play CF and would be a butcher in CF. You have this guy on our team already, his name is Mackowiak. The guy we should of picked up for a platoon would of been Brady Clark. He is right handed, can play left and center. Is a leadoff type guy, and would of been the right choice. He also is a line drive guy.

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) regardless of stats, taverez threw a good game, our hitters didn't look like they had a horrendous approach, they just couldn't muster a hit and sometimes that happens its a shame it was tonight, but I won't be angry about it until we lose another game in the series Anyone tonight could of thrown a good game against our team. You want to beat the whitesox. Here is the formula. Spot a fastball, 83 to whatever low and away. Do this until you get to 2 strikes. Once every 10 or so pitches bust them inside, off the plate of course. Then on 2 strikes, bounce a breaking ball in. You do that and you can shut them down. This is what he did. He threw low and away, and our pull hitters took care of themselves. This is a formula that has beaten the chicago whitesox for years late in the season. In fact we got rid of "selfish" players who tried to hit homers when all we needed is a single, replaced them with spray hitters and grinders who magically seem to have the same exact problem as the guys before.
-
Another person they need to fire is PFB. He is happy to get 2 runs off of a stingy pitcher. GMAFB you homer douche. You are happy that a major league team didnt beat up on the Redsox worst reliever.
-
Tommorrows pitcher is a rookie, has a plus 6 ERA, and he is left handed. I am going with he will have a 3 to 5 hitter, with a bunch of ground outs to the left side. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) calm down everyone it's not over until it's over more seriously though, its only game one of the series if we win the series then I'm fine with this I'm angry that we lost against the royals, but I won't let that anger carry over to this series for now Your best pitcher vs a bad middle reliever And you are not angry with this.

QUOTE(jkrem32 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) The "heart" of this team got "transplanted" to Philadelphia He is on the disabled list. You can give this up now. Maybe you want willie harris and timo perez back too.
-
QUOTE(jkrem32 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) The "heart" of this team got "transplanted" to Philadelppphia Oh sweet mother of god. Not this again. WE ARE NOT LOSING NOW BECAUSE OF A HITTER WHO HIT .245 LAST AUGUST, AND .235 IN SEPTEMBER AND COUDLNT HIT A SLIDER, WHAT AGAIN DID HE HIT IN THE PLAYOFFS, OH THAT WOULD BE NOTHING. '

QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 09:39 PM) Yeah, like a well-pitched series of games (like, say, 3 in a row). Or some break to get this team out of its funk. Because, if you haven't noticed, our guys look like they're dead out there (seen Podsednik's face lately? Konerko's?). Just like they looked until Sizemore dropped that ball last year. This is what has been termed corpseball. It is a lifeless effort, where you make a crappy pitcher seem like Cy Young. In the 2nd half, our teams play tight, and then try to hit home runs instead of doing the little things to score the runs. Our guys are all trying to hit moon shots over the monster, instead of getitng on, hitting the other way, hitting line drives. I am quite sick of Konerko's and AJ's suicide shrugs, slash bat slams after they dont come through. Stop acting like a child, and come up with a better plan the next time you come up to the plate. AJ talked about his lack of homers all the time on the Mike North show in the first half, then something changed. His over 300's BA has plummetted and he has become a one trick pony.
-
Time to turn on the PFB show for comedy.
-
Too bad we dont have the 8 game cushion in september to turd through this year. When we decide to play like crap for a few months.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) At least Brandon, if his career never takes off, can pin the blame on Ozzie if he wishes to do so. Poor ol Brandon is being misused as a reliever. Give me a break. Lots of pitchers have stepped up in their careers and done what is needed to do. Hope the kid has a long productive career as a starter, but the man has sucked of late and there is no assurance he'd have been a stud as a starter this year though I agree he's been misused by Oz and KW. What about the O. No condemnation for a supposed good O being dominated by a horrible, middle reliever.
-
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Sep 4, 2006 -> 09:12 PM) Why on earth would I be concerned? And why would we care about what a redsox fan thinks of AJ.
