  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) I knew this would happen. This totally devalues him. It sure does ! Rios has got to show he can hit before the season ends even if he does have a pretty good track record of hitting. Appears as if the thinking on the Sox is " If we're not going to make the playoffs , might as well sink as low as we can and get a better draft choice" though i know that's totally asinine.
  3. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) Agree. Ozzie could play the same guys and have the same batting order with Rios in CF, Quentin or Pods in LF, Dye or Quentin in RF, and Dye or Pods or Quentin as DH. Mix and match however you want, but keep Rios (not Pods) in CF. Rios is our best fielding CF - why not play him there? Now that Thome is gone and Dye will be DHing more, I'd like to see Quentin in RF on occasion, as that may be where he ends up after the upcoming offseason. Baffles me too constantly. Maybe Rios' attitude didn't impress Oz right away. He's been sitting just about half the time and doing next to nothing when he's playing. He's just up there hacking like he doesn't have a clue.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) Odd use of the term. I gave it some thought before I used it. But I figured most people would know I meant good defensive players. It is called web gems on Baseball Tonight for outstanding defensive plays isn't it ?
  5. We have a better chance at resigning Thome or Dye to reduced contracts then we do at paying Adam Dunn $12M. Just not happening. Not a good idea to buy high. KW will continue his bargain basement shopping looking for web gems.
  6. It's a good idea Steve but my guess is we go after someone not quite as sexy like Scutaro or Wilson and another good fielding outfielder to shore up the D a bit who aren't hacks at the plate.
  7. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:37 AM) Is there room on the 40 man roster? Cole Armstrong is going to play for Canada in the Baseball World Cup, so that's probably why Flowers is going up. Congrats to my boy, T-Flow. I guess calling him T-Flow is ultimately cooler and hipper than thinking of him as the effeminate skunk in Bambi.
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 11:58 PM) This is awesome. Hard to get Gordon star struck, but when your talking to the people who created your walkup song, it's pretty surreal. It was fun to listen to thanks, should've had it's own thread.
  9. I'm sort of surprised the 2 threads about 2010 aren't seeing more action since the departures of Thome and Contreras. Guess most assumed this would be the case anyway for 2010 and have already posted. But everyone looked for the big names when a guy like Marco Scutaro (who's a free agent and very good defensively) ) would be a great addition to this team. SS needs to be stabilized and since day one Alexei's been compared to Soriano . Maybe it's time we go back to thinking of Alexei an an outfielder. Perhaps LF now. Quentin back to right.
  10. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 06:37 AM) There is going to be a lot of changes this offseason. Will it be Getz or Alexie at 2B? One thing is for certain, they will not leave the infield alone after all these errors. Some interesting SS free agents include: Wilson, Greene and Scutaro. Some interesting 3B free agents include: Beltre and Figgins. I would almost guarantee the Sox will try to sign Scutaro or Wilson . They are both very good defensively. Alexei isn't as bad as everyone thinks he is defensively according to stats on fangraphs but I wouldn't be surprised to see him moved (traded or a different position. Hell maybe we'll see him in LF soon. He's just not a heady type of player and and he's our best trade chip being cheap and offensively talented. He's the biggest enigma on the Sox. Pros: Fast. cheap, power, cheap, clutch , cheap. Cons : Not good defensively and baseball IQ on the low side.
  11. QUOTE (35thstreetswarm @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 07:28 AM) Someone should make a movie about Jose's life. The guy has overcome an unbelievable amount of adversity - personal, physical, psychological - to get where he is, and from all accounts has remained one of the nicest, most humble athletes around. He was our best pitcher for two seasons, took the team on his back to its only World Series championship in any of our lifetimes, and when you take his entire career into account (we saw only the tail end of it), may be the best pitcher ever to pitch for the White Sox. Yet somehow the guy never got the appreciation he deserved. For god's sake, I saw five times as many Garland jerseys as Contreras jerseys (I counted one - mine), even at the peak of Count's performance Never totally understood it, though I have my theories. It wouldn't surprise me if Jose has one more surprise run in him - I hope he does. Best of luck Titan - go prove 'em wrong again. 7 posts in 3 years, but it was a good one.
  12. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) he was at 3b for both games today. thinking about him at third, beckham at 2nd, alexei at shortstop flowers at catcher, quentin in right or left, and rios in center makes me cum. only question marks would be DH, 1b, and the other corner spot. those can usually be filled decent hitters. a man can dream... Defensively that might make your pitchers impotent.
  13. He might be a future pitching coach with the way he prepares. He watches film to know every players weaknesses then follows it up with which pitches are working best for him on the days he starts.
  14. If ever I wanted to post en espanol this would be that time. Jose , you were one of the biggest reasons that Sox fans got a championship after 89 years of waiting. Generations of Sox fans owe true moments of happiness to you. Muchos gracias . Stay thirsty mi amigo.
  15. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 06:32 AM) 1. Figgins - LF 2. Beckham - 3B 3. Quentin - RF 4. Konerko - 1B 5. Thome - DH 6. AJ - C 7. Rios - CF 8. Ramirez - SS 9. Getz - 2B Buehrle - SP Peavy - SP Floyd - SP Danks - SP Garcia - SP Jenks Thronton Linebrink Pena Nunez Link DJ Flowers Nix Kotsay You think Thome will be back or haven't realized he's gone ?
  16. Big Jim is and always will be a fine example of everything a person representing the White Sox and a professional in any endeavor should be. Total class 100 % of the time. Also if you figure walks into the equation Thome was by far the most productive player on the Sox this year.
  17. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 11:27 PM) I still don't understand why people automatically want to see/or think Beckham as a number 3 hitter next year (Because Hawk said so?). I don't see it for a few years... Why through him into the fire that quick. Personally I don't think he's ready. Q at 3 next year IMO. I think I was one of the first to say Beckham to 3rd in the lineup ( in the is Ozzie too complacent thread) just as I was one of the 1st to see him as the future 3rd baseman (predicted at the end of spring training in the predictions thread.) Had no idea Hawk was saying it or when he started saying it, maybe after reading me saying it . We've had plenty of players succeed in the 2 hole, AJ, Beckham and Alexei. What we need for a #3 is someone who can hit with men on base. Beckham has shown that ability in the big leagues so far and the kid probably loves being in that situation as he was with Georgia. He's a doubles machine and he'll hit more HR's in the future too. A double drives in a runner from 1st with 2 outs. Q's power bat will be needed at cleanup with Thome gone.
  18. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 08:29 PM) we arent getting chone god damn figgins. i will stick a cucumber up my butt on webcam for everybody on this site if we sign him. it aint happening. he is going to want a lot of cash after this season. How are we to know that you don't do that every other day and enjoy it ?
  19. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 12:14 AM) Only Getz and Beckham are allowed to be less than they can be, because they are rookies starting their first year at the major league level. Nix is a rookie also.
  20. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 11:20 PM) Our starting pitching is now our most dangerous weapon, so we need to make a run for the cup in the next 2-3 years. More or less the future is here starting in 2010, not 2011. Like some of you guys are sayin, I think the smart move is to put the best defensive team we can behind these 4 guys. I don't know why Beckham at short scares me, but it does; so keep him at 3B where he is excelling. Lexi is fine at short, and Paulie picks everything at 1B. Get Dye the hell outa my outfield and pray to God Rios hits next year. That leaves us short a corner outfielder and a second baseman; but I wouldn't mind a Getz/Nix platoon next year, especially since both would be valuable bench hitters. Neither is bad IMO. So really all I need is a great defensive corner outfielder and a new DH. Only 1 baseclogger is allowed in my lineup and that's Paulie. 2 Cloggers can really hurt us in a given inning. Dye and Thome go away. I actually didn't mind Pods at DH when he was there. With our pitching staff we don't have to outslug anybody (even though we still have plenty of pop). My point is that DH doesn't need to be filled with a big guy who can only hit. It can be filled with a good overall hitter who gets on base, he doesn't have to be an RBI guy necessarily. We'd be built ike 2005 again only better IMO. What do you guys think of these points? What about calling Tyler FLowers up for September and seeing how he would look for a fulltime DH/backup catcher to AJ. Oh man would that be sweet if it worked out. I think it's pretty much what I said the post before yours. One other point. Wouldn't Flowers as a full time DH and AJ be 3 base cloggers in your lineup when you just said only one ?
  21. I didn't vote in the poll because there's so much blame from the top on down to go around. However I think KW already made moves in the right direction for the next few years . Build the starting pitching staff and play good defense around them. Rios and Peavy fit this scenario. I expect more moves in the offseason towards those particular goals especially defensively. Sure Rios has looked bad at the plate and Peavy has yet to pitch. It was a calculated risk for this year and we all knew that. More speed, more defense , more pitching and let the chips fall where they may offensively.
  22. Starting pitching should be the Sox strength in the next few years. Therefore that's what you build around. Find good defensive player's like Franklin Gutierrez or Jack Wilson and plug them in the starting lineup. Two very good defensive players will do wonders to improve the Sox defense along with more experience gained by Beckham and Ramirez . Get one more good defensive outfielder and infielder who aren't terrible offensive players. Move who ever you have to move via trades or defensive positioning. The whole pitching staff will be much better . This is so much more important than who will hit leadoff or where to play Ramirez , Beckham or Quentin.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 11:31 AM) They have to replace Dye with Quentin...that will help with the range, or find another RFer, and I doubt that will be Vladimir Guerrero, who's about as limited as JD now physically. I really wouldn't even mind someone like Fr. Gutierrez or Endy Chavez in our outfield, but there's no way in hell I'm relying on Pods to be a starter next year...forget it. Ramirez moves to 2B (or is traded, or the Nix/Getz platoon again)...Beckham to SS and Fields/Viciedo/Nix (but probably a veteran 3B on a one-year contract while waiting for Viciedo) is the most likely. Fields and Getz definitely look to be the odd men out at this point, although we might need to keep Fields because his value is so low and because Thome AND Dye might both be gone, so we'll need to produce offense somehow. A better LFer, Rios in CF, Quentin in RF, Beckham/Ramirez up the middle, a better defensive 3B....we're not going to get any better with AJ/Flowers at catcher. I think the whole reason the Sox traded Brandon Allen is that Viciedo is bad at 3rd and will be playing 1st.
  24. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) Shhhhhhh, you'll upset the masses here who have proclaimed Beckham a HOFer notwithstanding his horrific batting of late... The league is making adjustments to him. More high pitches especially with 2 strikes, plus maybe he's tired . Up to Gordon now to make adjustments .
  25. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) Anyone else have little faith in Nix's at-bat right now? I admit I love seeing him at the plate, just not with RISP and 2 out. Based on absolutely no stats but it feels like he never comes through in the clutch Edit: It's looking up, Hughes is a first pitch fastballer and Nix is Nix... Edit2: Lame. Got a cookie on 3-2 couldn't do anything with it.
