QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) If Chris Getz is better than Cabrera, he should have been playing against Tampa in the playoffs. Getz was injured for the playoffs.

Brian Roberts, Lastings Milledge, Ricky Nolasco

After the Swisher trade , I said this , which I still think is valid. We now have more middle infield prospects for Baltimore to choose from. Still thinking Kenny makes a big push for Brian Roberts. "This was the obvious 1st move of the off season. Does it make Vazquez the next to go ? Maybe but I still don't think its enough to fill a vacancy created by moving Javy. I think it lessens the chances of a Dye trade though there could always be an offer that KW can't refuse. I'm excited because the KW plan has started unfolding. Look for much more to happen in the next 6-8 weeks. KW also has more prospects to trade now. If you're looking for a big name, think Brian Roberts or Carlos Beltran ....." Stay tuned.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) Contreras can't pitch yet, can he? Not until July at the very earliest . Our Sox players are not playing in Cuba . They're not welcome there but they USED to play for the team he mentioned.

Sox still interested in Willy Taveras
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to beck72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
KHP , from 2005-2008 Taveras had a .000 BA on 3-0 counts in 19 AB's probably not because he was swinging and making outs on that count but I think its more like he had no batting avg because he never swung at 3-0 pitches . So any statistical analysis probably shouldn't include 3-0 batting average unless its .000 because he was actually 0 for 19 by making contact and making outs on 3-0 pitches which I think is highly unlikely. -
Freddie is hurt again. Hurt his shoulder in the Venezuelan league recently.

Guess they didn't like the Swisher trade

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 15, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) I like what I've read about this Link kid. Hopefully he can show he can be a good major league pitcher, this way maybe we can deal Jenks like KW wants to do, seemingly. I don't like this stuff on Beckham. I hope it's nothing. Hasn't been an athlete created who a scout doesn't have at least 1 negative thing to say about him/her. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) But you know what? There's been plenty of reason to do exactly that over the last 2 seasons, but Ozzie just refuses to do it until someone is actually injured. The 3rd year's the charm ?

QUOTE (sti3 @ Nov 14, 2008 -> 10:26 AM) LOL. 1) The Sox almost never do platoons and 2) That would be the most insanely expensive DH ever. Since there are way more right handed pitchers than lefties , Thome would still get the majority of AB's at DH. Asking Dye to DH once in a while against lefties isn't a bad thing considering Thome's struggles against them. So by platoon I mean Thome and Dye, because of age, getting more rest and getting more quality AB's from the DH position and otherwise Dye will play the OF. I think that's very reasonable and not laughable.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 08:18 PM) Fair enough. Jimmy did a good job of staying healthy this past season. Hope his back hangs in there with all those hacks he takes. I don't hate Jimmy, especially after that blast against Minnie. I also like Dye, though, quite a bit actually. Which is exactly why the Sox will work JD into a platoon at DH with Thome if the Sox keep Dye and some other pieces fall into place.
-
If Tampa Bay trades for Dye or any OF close to Dye's 09 salary I'll eat a bug. You all have lost it
-
"If Dye doesn't get traded I hope someone on the Sox approaches Dye about playing some LF and DH for the good of the team. Trading Swisher would open up those possibilities even more. Even with no experience in LF Dye is no longer suited to RF full time." That's what I said Nov. 7th in the " Phillies interested in Dye" thread. I also said somewhere that trading Vazquez would not be the 1st move KW makes because there was no way in hell KW would open up a hole in the starting pitching staff without more viable options than he had. He now has those options. This was the obvious 1st move of the off season. If you're looking for a big name, think Brian Roberts or Carlos Beltran or more prospects from the Mets.

RIP Herb Score and condolences to the family.

Some more names that might make sense to KW
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm sure many of the names you listed are on KW's radar since he has his multiple plans of attack in the off season. Always have to have fallback options. -
Sox interested in Cuban 3rd Sacker

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 08:21 AM) I am pretty happy with my statement! I was pretty content with mine too. I said he'd get a long look in ST and unless he's outstanding (which he was) he'd start the season in AA or AAA. One scouting report was pretty much dead on about him , good athlete , good wrists, young Ernie Banks /Hank Aaron body type. -
Rocco Baldelli , Shea Hillebrand

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) Do you know what it means for a team to be "interested" in a player? A reporter, say Joe Cowley, walks past Kenny Williams at the GM meetings and asks in passing "does that Rocco Baldelli interest you at all?" KW responds "Yeah, sure." and it shows up in the papers the next day: "White Sox show interest in free agent outfielder, Baldelli." Or a reporter asks a few GMs if they'd entertain the idea of maybe thinking about discussing the possibility of having internal discussions regarding perhaps talking to a Rocco Baldelli about signing a minor league deal with their club perchance, the next day's headline: "Rocco Baldelli Draws Interest from 6 Teams." It's a clusterf*** of hyperbole. I'm not some rube who just started following baseball. I honestly believe Baldelli will sign a ML contract for maybe $1 mill. and be productive . Probably more productive than Wise and Anderson in 09. Though I certainly hope not. Even if all 6 teams that showed interest did it in the way you describe that's means they didn't dismiss the idea entirely based on him having the disease unless they were being PC. -

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) Hillenbrand is garbage. He lost some of his power, is slow, is bad defensively, and couldn't draw a walk if his life depended on it. Right now he's about equal to an injured Crede even with his defense. Yep you're right . I wasn't penciling him as opening day 3rd sacker just throwing his name out there as an option should all else fail. I know even Fields is the better option . Still might give him a look see for a minor league contract. -

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Do a google search of Rocco Baldelli + Mitochondrial Disorder. Then look at the symptoms of his Mitochondrial Disorder Already did a while back . Did you tell that to the 6 other teams interested in Baldelli ? That's why I wasn't originally interested but he didn't lose the disease when he hit 2 HR's in the WS and scored from 1st base on a long single against the White Sox in the playoffs. He's still a better hitter and fielder with the disease than Wise and probably Anderson. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) Baldelli has a tough time playing a whole game. Hillebrand is a cancer. No thanks to both. I didn't think Baldelli was worth it either til I saw how he did in the against the Sox and in WS. He's still fast and a good fielder He's a free agent and probably won't get more than $1-2 mil a year. To dismiss Hillebrand as a cancer would be rash. Couldn't hurt to give him a tryout if we're looking at Fields to open ST. The article says their are 6 other teams interested in Rocco so if they're satisfied that he can play back up OF why wouldnt the Sox. Speed, power and defense off the bench for cheap. -
No I haven't heard any rumors that links the Sox with these 2. Hillebrand is trying to make a comeback as a corner infielder/DH and 6 teams are showing interest in Baldelli as a backup outfielder. Could the White Sox be one of them ? Couldn't hurt to invite Hillebrand to camp and give him a look and Baldelli though battling Mitochondrial disease is still fairly athletic. Thoughts ? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ Follow the links in MLB Trade rumors for write-ups about both.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 10:25 AM) Tampa bay has finished in last place every year of their existance prior to this year. I takes time for people to actually buy into the idea that the team is good. That is what happened this year. Next year, they will have a groundswell of support early in the season and with season ticket sales. If they continue to win, they'll have decent attendance figures in '09. The Marlins didn't even want to try to sustain their success. They built it up, won a WS, knocked it down, built it up again, won another WS and broke the Cubs hearts. How do they draw ?

QUOTE (Cubano @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 11:22 AM) I do not want all the cuban-white Sox because if they suck, you guys are going to get in my case. Ha, ha,ha. Maybe if the Sox had a few more Cubans you would make the WHite Sox your favorite team instead of the Nationals. -
Sox interested in Cuban 3rd Sacker
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Could be Viciedo's heart wasn't in it. After all most of us know it's not like playing baseball here. Single A players have better accomendations than most Cuban players. A US player at least has dreams of making millions or even if you don't make it you lived your dream for a few years before you end up back in the real world. What do Cuban ballplayers have to look forward to ? If your any good you get to have watchful eyes scrutinize your every off field move in case your thinking about defecting. If you don't want to play ball for $25 a month you can harvest sugar cane or tobbacco and live in a shack with 15 relatives. I don't think my heart would exactly leap for joy that I had all the talent in the world but couldn't play with the best players in the world. -
New/old names mentioned by Phil Rogers....

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 8, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) The question is, what do the Cardinals ask us for...you know it's going to start with pitching, and we can offer Jenks/Vazquez but they will want Buehrle, Danks and Floyd. Vazquez straight up for Ankiel sounds good to me but then again I'm biased.
