  1. Sox Machine has an article on it. http://soxmachine.com/blogs/soxmachine/default.aspx
  2. Don't know if it was mentioned but Ron Kittle has a Facebook page. You guys can add him as a friend. http://www.facebook.com/people/Ronald-D-Kittle/558137503
  3. Havlat with some magic moves that result in a Bolland goal giving the Hawks a 4-3 lead in the 3rd period against the Lightning. The Hawks had trailed 3-1. Stamkos with 1st career hat trick for TB. Kane finally scored the Hawks 3rd goal.
  4. More from Cowley: GLENDALE, Ariz. - The best exchange between a pitcher and catcher in Tuesday's bullpen sessions? Leave it to A.J. Pierzynski and Mark Buehrle to capture that honor. While Buehrle - never one to scare a radar gun - was throwing to Pierzynski, the catcher yelled to the southpaw, "I'm trying to break in a new glove,'' referring to the mid-80s fastball coming from Buehrle. Buehrle's response? "Well then you better catch someone else.'' Early reviews The one pitcher that looks like doo-doo so far, at least according to his manager? Octavio Dotel. But the right-handed reliever has an excuse. The plan for him was to come in and work on a changeup under the watchful eye of pitching coach Don Cooper. It's obviously a work in progress from the early reviews.
  5. Haven't seen it mentioned yet but Palehose 9 has had 3 strips in February so far. http://palehose9.blogspot.com/
  6. I have a really hard time judging ARod. Yes he admitted it but (and I hope I have my facts straight) many of the tests back then were taken to establish weather MLB actually had a steroid problem. There wasn't a list of banned substances or penalties for taking any of this stuff in baseball at the time ARod is admitting to taking steroids . So basically he wasn't doing anything forbidden. If I'm wrong someone give me dates of when MLB instituted a policy against steroids and when they started making lists of what substances were banned . I do believe he was guilty of trying to keep pace with his peers and did little wrong according to the rules established at that time.
  7. Overall impression is that he's being as honest as he can be. Basically he's saying he was just clueless, he had a neck injury and decided to stop. I would ask him what the real name of this "boley" is . Sounds short for bolic or anabolic. No ones asked him if he knows what is actually was yet.
  8. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 17, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) Is he crying? Theres no crying in baseball. He looked like he was about to cry when he was about to address his teammates to took a really long pause maybe a minute or 2 , took a swig of water then said just "thanks" and sort of just slumped back into his chair.
  9. Said it was him and his cousin , no one else. Took something with a street name of "boley" as best as I can make out what he said. His cousin didn't distribute it to anyone else. He was young and stupid. Said it was over the counter stuff. Not even sure if he and his cousin took it the right way. Says it was injected.
  10. QUOTE (Texsox @ Feb 17, 2009 -> 08:54 AM) Decent enough analysis. We are predicting how humans will perform over a six month season. It is always a crap shoot, if he was a poster here, he would be called a realist. This is probably the most fluid spring training in the past decade. The guys he predicts are on the downside of their careers, are. They may resist the aging process a little longer, but if you had to bet up, down, or stay the same, stay the same or down are the safer picks. A playoff spot last season was a shocker, as would this season. Congrats on your drinking buddy award
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 11:57 PM) My bold prediction is no soxtalk fan will post "this game is over" the moment we fall behind 3 runs in a game in the game threads. Please people, just don't do it!!! You got to believe. Games are not over til they are ova. Ha dream on
  12. Or the Dodgers could just wait til the deadline passes, get their guy and give up nothing.
  13. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 02:37 PM) Man he was freaking ripped in 2000 Guess that's why he was called the Bronze Titan. Here's a story a few years back about Jose, Coop, and the origin of the nickname. http://havanajournal.com/culture/entry/bro...cago_white_sox/
  14. Contreras might be part of KW's plan and a reason why he's letting the kids go for the 5th spot in the rotation. He could be back pitching as early as June, though I'm sure they will procede with the usual caution. If Colon holds up ( a big IF) and a kid seizes the moment Count can be starter a reliever or trade bait if he can establish he's sound by the trade deadline.
  15. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Feb 15, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) Why do people keep adding an n to Dayan's last name? I'd love to see what would happen if Wise and Owens completely tank and BA and some other NRI tear the cover off the ball. At least now I know how to pronounce his 1st name, it's Die Ann .
  16. QUOTE (BearSox @ Feb 15, 2009 -> 08:40 AM) None of those players are good enough or have enough potential to be worthy enough to take a risk on. Massett at least had some potential. Besides, all of those players are doubtful to even be snatched up by another team anyway. Betemit is a lock to make the roster though, IMO. It's funny how you said Betemit is a lock to make the roster. When I was writing my post that's almost word for word what I wrote. Then I thought, what if Fields and Viciendo have great springs ? So I took it out. So you're saying Owens and Nix , two of our possible starters, have no potential ? Owen's couldn't possibly stay healthy and solve the leadoff problem and put up decent numbers for 1 year ? Nix ,a guy who won the Colorado starting 2nd base job last year before being DFA'd for sucking couldn't finally figure it out ?
  17. According to the Tribune : Options: The Sox have vowed to take the top 25 players to start the regular season, but last spring they kept Nick Masset, who was out of options, over Ehren Wassermann. Owens, Nix, infielder Wilson Betemit and outfielder Dewayne Wise are out of options and must clear waivers if they don't make the Opening Day roster. If Anderson, Viciedo , Lillibridge , and Getz all have better Springs who makes the team ? Can anyone picture the Sox putting Owens on waivers ?
  18. Konerko. Dye and Quentin all have 100 RBI and 30+ HR Thome has 30+ HR and 90+ RBI Alexei hits .300+ 25 HR 75 RBI Getz hits .275 ,steals 15 bases AJ hits .280 10 HR Brian Anderson hits .260 15+ HR 55 RBI 10 steals MB, Danks and Floyd all have 15+ wins Colon wins 8 befor he gets injured then Contreras win's 8 when he returns. Richard is 5th starter , wins 10. Poreda is the LOOGY. Jenks saves 40. Bullpen ERA is just under 4 Beckham becomes 3rd baseman post All-star break. Viciendo gets AB's as DH against lefties and PH duties post ASB after tearing up the minors. Sox advance to ALCS and lose to the Yankees in 7 games.
  19. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 12, 2009 -> 07:02 AM) Yeah, Steve is right same place different name. I never had cable growing up, so I never watched hockey as a kid and therefore am not a Hawks fan. Not a fan of the Blues either though. I have been to a handful of games and I really only enjoy it in person. I will have to wear Sox or Bears gear to represent. During the strike a few years ago. I got some Hawks gear at great prices, hoodie, cap, t-shirts even some 3rd jersey bobbleheads.
  20. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Feb 12, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) Anybody catch it in today's Sun-Times? There's a nice spread all about the Sox and Ramirez. Buy it if you see it. Here's a link that covers part of it: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/deluca/1426...eluca12.article But in a section called "Best in Chicago" (as far as who do you want in that position), the Sox took like four out of five categories from the Cubs. So who exactly is at 2nd this year? I fully expect Getz to win the job.
  21. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Feb 12, 2009 -> 10:03 AM) Raises to Arbitration eligible players and players that were due for a raise, plus to account for the fact that the economy sucks and attendance/revenues will likely be way down this year. Reinsdorf said he doesn't really expect attendance to drop much because families might be canceling more expensive things like vacations but adding less expensive things for entertainment like a trip to the ball park. He also said the payroll isn't attendance driven as much as it used to be and corporate sponsorship , which will be less this year, pays for much of the salaries in baseball now.
  22. I think if KW made any mistakes this off season it was underestimating just how far the market for free agents would drop. If he had a chance to do it all over again knowing what he knows now Dye and his salary would be on the Reds and the Sox would have Homer Bailey and the ability to sign Abreu and possibly another free agent. All in all if Reinsdorf and his cohorts said make payroll $100mill. then KW's hands were tied from the very beginning of the off season.
