  1. How is he valuable to the Sox ? Does he put them over the hump in either year ? Do you you think he can be traded for more than the Sox would give up for him ? Would he help us get a better draft choice in years we won't make the playoffs ? If the answer to those questions is NO then why do we need him ?
  2. But at least we have more minor league seasons and 6 years of control to find out. What was the sense of a rebuild and getting a bunch of prospects only to trade them before we even have any idea how good they are and still not going to compete soon ? Let's use some common sense . Get Manny let Kopech, Cease , Dunning,Robert Madrigal, Collins and basically all the others in the top 30 get another year or 2 before we start trading them. We'll have a much better idea of what we need then.
  3. Sure from a contender who really needs him. What exactly do the Sox need him for? Trade bait in 1.5 years to see if we can get back what we gave up for him ? Kind of just seems like spinning your wheels to me.
  4. I wouldn't be so sure, He is the odd man out in LA. Dodgers don't need him. They would rather have Pollock or using Pollock as a smoke screen for Harper. This is kind of like that BS we heard from the Yankees about maybe keeping Sonny Gray when Yankees management completely burned their bridges on the guy. Dodgers are in no position to expect much or they can keep him .
  5. It could be a 3 way . Everyone should know Marte played on that 2015 DR with Manny, I mentioned Marte as a possible trade candidate to the Sox early in the Manny process maybe the 1st thread.
  6. I wanted to post this when Hatgate was big so I'll just attach it to your post now. Hatful of Hollow .......the rock music buffs should know this one.
  7. I need help because I don't know quite whyat to make of this about Pederson. Check his splits on Baseball Ref. Now we all know he's terrible against lefties but I ended up checking his stats in the batting order since the NL has pitchers hitting. Turns out he hits best in the lineup when batting either 1st or 8th. Both of those spots revolve around the pitcher either preceding him or following him. That's the part that I don't know what to make of. I generally have my reservations about NL players transitioning to the AL so this concerns me. Can anyone spin this in a positive way? Maybe fangraphs has something good about players who hit better either before or after the pitcher ?
  8. Sure we can, because this move as you call it hasn't happened and it could be a terrible trade. Without Machado it's senseless even with him it's borderline meaningless depending on who the Sox give up. Still way way short in a lot of areas that can be addressed next year but probably not 2019. so then it's down to 1 year of Pederson to make an impact.
  9. To be fair to my fellow Soxtalkers the time was right and planned for to go after Machado or Harper. We can understand now why the results of the earlier trades in the rebuild were pitching heavy.Getting one does move the timeline forward but not by a lot and it would be a mistake to try to force it when the prospects will still be getting their feet wet or still establishing value in the minors.
  10. Zuerlein sure made that 57 yarder look awful easy. Right down the middle with plenty of leg to spare.
  11. Oh I'm definitely on board with trading any prospect when they have been given time to show more but most if not all the young OFer's are too far off to have established a higher value. Another one or 2 years and we will know. Those should be non contending years so there's really no hurry.
  12. Oh I agree . 100% I wasn't knocking Basabe , We need to wait like I said on all our high upside prospects. Just was stating his hit tool has been lacking. All the other stuff you said about him is true. You did ask why some want to disregard him so I answered the probable reason.
  13. 2019 $5M, 2020 Arbitration eligible, 2021 Free agent.
  14. If we are going to get picky I did say "haven't had much luck" which allows room for some success. Pederson is a much more established player than Eaton and Quentin were. 1000+ more PA's than either Eaton or Quentin had and 2 years older then when we got them. Target the D'backs we do good getting players from them like Eaton and Q.
  15. Probably because of his hit tool. But like most of our other high end prospects and those with high upside we need to not trade them.
  16. I know but still it's buying high and switching leagues. Haven't had much luck with NL players coming here and it's only for 2 non contending years. I know you think differently on that as do others but when it takes like 6 different if's to contend I tend to think it won't happen. Get Manny and give me next year to decide on the direction. Pederson just doesn't move the arrow enough for the 2 years of control.
  17. Let's not forget he's a 3 WAR OF from 2018. 2017 was quite different. I'd consider him a a 3 WAR OF'er if he had done it consistently but he hasn't. How often do we hear warnings about buying high ? Get him for next to nothing fine, otherwise let the contenders like the Braves who might truly need him overpay for him.
  18. Really ! No on Bush but yes on Basabe ? Is that somehow better ?
  19. All this illustrates is how bad the Sox were in 2018 and even with Manny and Joc 2019 and 2020 aren't years where we need Joc. Pitching wasn't any better and the pitching is where we aren't ready the most. Maybe .500 or better in 2020 if I wear my special Sox colored glasses.
  20. No list can be impartial because it takes a human to program it. If they use stats from last 4 years it becomes a lot different than the last 1 or last 2. Rightfully they should have no stats on Eloy to compare against MLB stats since they are apples and oranges. But I do agree that seeing Eloy on the list is sweet.
