  1. good reads, I for one have been waiting for BMAC to come up for a few years now. I cant wait to see him, anderson, sweeney and rogowski come up and make this team YOUNG and talented.
  2. thats how baseball and soccer are done in other countries, that seems to work out for them.
  3. I look at spring training the same every year. You cant disect the bad parts of the game. It is too early to judge a player on mistakes, rustiness etc. But you should always look at what went right as a barometer of how the team will play. I think Spods effort shows us all that he has a different approach this year. I think the promise of the young guys shows us that when we need to rid ourselves of some big contract, they will be ready. Too early to be down on the negatives.
  4. I like the fact that two of those players are on division rivals....maybe some rammifications of this story will be evident in their playing time, or careers.
  5. I agree with the post, but i also agreed with the 16 other times it has been broken down
  6. ESPN reported that this deal might have incentives for 7 years...wow, thats alot of commitment
  7. Whoa, my bad, I didnt know they were about to be in the 600 club as well. Thank god Anthrax corrected me on that, it would have been embarrasing if he didnt.
  8. He has hit well against them before last year He plays outfied positions as well He has only had one season in the bigs see: arow 2 years ago Why trade him for the same type of player??
  9. Defend yourself, why do you think that my posts are ignorant. Do you think that a 38 year old Nelson would help this bullpen?? Who would he replace?? And How would that make the pen more complete???
  10. R U serious?? you were born in 1988, you still live with your parents son. Its cool that all of you are friends because you spend all of your time on here, but coming in last minute and coming up with that?? Come on. IN fact you can tell me where you live in DG, I grew up there, and we can have a discussion about it if you still feel pretty tough.
  11. exactly, it was one person who had an opinion on nelson, and three other people just blindly repeating him. If there was some evidence that Nelson was better than polite or hermanson, I would consider Nelson a valuable addition. But since he is not only 38 years old and coming off of an injury, he also is not better than what he have as right handed set up men. Bottom line-adding Nelson to our roster would make the pen weaker in my opinion. In the late ninties he was dominant, but now, he is just too old and too much of a question mark.
  12. if you are going to just keep repeating what addison says and reiterrating his points, just quote him and say "I agree with addison on every point" If there is to be an argument of whether you want nelson as your right handed set up guy, please make a point of how he is better than what we have, thanks
  13. so tell me that you think that nelson is better than polite and hermanson, and then your point will make sense, because that is who he would be competing against. if you can say that you think he is better than both of them, then your point of having him in our bullpen makes more sense.
  14. He's not a lefty specialist, he is a long reliever, damaso and vizcaino will be concentrating on lefties. So it really doesnt matter. And I believe that you were one of the people who are willing to give garland a chance, why not cotts, who has only 2 seasons under his belt.
  15. Once again, it is not what he HAS done before in his career, he hasnt thrown long relief since 97, that was 8 years ago, when he was 30. It doesnt matter what he USED to be, he is done now. And Hermanson is better and so is polite. So there is no way he would improve our bullpen.
  16. Are you saying that long relievers are the same as set-up guys?? They throw more innings, have a different mentality and generally do alot more than just pitch one inning to get ready for the closer. They eat up innings for the bullpen and the starters, and a staff cannot be without one. If you got rid of a long reliever for a set-up guy you would lose alot of attributes that a successful staff needs, and vice versa for getting rid of a set up guy for a long reliever. It has nothing to do with how many runs you are up or down. In fact long relief can come in at any score if you are confident in them. But set up guys will generally pitch no more than an inning, and sometimes not even a full inning. Because that is their role. That is why you cant compare our staff's long relievers (cotts, adkins) with the set up role. If you want to compare who we would get ride of to make room for Nelson, it would be either hermanson or polite, not cotts
  17. understanding baseball and the roles of relief pitchers would be a start for you. Long reliever vs set up guys should be a subject you should study, because you cant compare the two. So comparing cotts to nelson has no relevance. Secondly, the world series that you listed were 9, 7, and 6 years ago respectively. Now he is 38 with arm troubles. Im sure that there are many older pitchers who were good years and years ago, but in this case, that point has no validity.
  18. If you have nothing to say to defend your opinion and perspective than dont post buddy. Face it, we both know you wouldnt want nelson instead of the two righty set up men that we have. So your point is dead, and all you can do now is try and attack me instead of the topic. Which will never work. So make like chief illiniwek and fade away. OUT
  19. I quoted you on one small part and then addressed the other pro-nelson posts. Thanks for the informative post though, its really helped.
  20. Well thanks for your opinion on it. But saying that Nelson would be a good additon to our bullpen over what we have now is idiotic. You are talking about a 38 year old who makes almost 2 million dollars, who is obiously in the downslide in his career. He had to have surgery, barely could throw at all last year and has a delivery which is conducive to elbow trouble. As for being a good guy like you said you "heard" you are so quick to forget a problematic set up guy for the mariners who lashed out against the front office and the management and brought about a trade so they could rid themselves of his personality. Not to mention the bullpen fight which included him as well. And saying that he will be more valuable than cotts is yet to be seen. He is a 24 year old lefty who is basically getting better as he gets more experience. Not to mention he has the ability to throw long innings of relief. These two arent even really comparable as neil is not a set-up guy and either is adkins. If you want to compare Nelson to the people he would be competing against for the set up role, you would be talking about polite and hermanson. And if you would rather have Nelson than one of those guys, then that would be a correct comparison.
  21. probably, maybe, sound like good reasons to me. You dont think that baseball fundamentals are taught at all in japan??? The fact is, fielding on grass is not only easier for the fielders, but it gives them much more range on the ball. It would be alot easier for him to field the ball in grass, not to mention that the cell is regarded as one of the best fields condition-wise to play on.
  22. spoken like a guy with true baseball experience, since turf makes fielding grounders so much easier.........................
