I had a few beers with Cotts last night, he looked like he was in shape, so theres one player
-
it is also possible that Aj's terrible clubhouse presence could hurt this team. Because as soon as there is friction, this team falls apart very quickly
-
well written article, I especially like the end where it points out that it should give us our annual hope.
-
this story broke this morning from what I hear. robbie alomar has been signed to a one year contract to play 2b for the cards. Where does that leave us in 2b hunts???

wow, wow, wow is all I can say. Dominated??? hmmm is dominating the early years of a sport really relate to the present times?? Not really, otherwise we would be bragging about a white sox world series, and another championship by the Bears. How about back then when the army, air force, and even my school Miami of Ohio dominated, does that really apply to today..nope not at all. Not letting D students in a school is in now way close to how much money a professional team can spend. How could you even compare the two. Spending more money is a something that alleviates a restriction, while not letting players in, is something that strangles a team. Your argument stinks of someone who grew up loving Rudy, but knows nothing about college football. You want to talk about BCS births being the proof behind a school's draw. The reason why the get bowl births at all, is because they are not in a conference. If you put the ND team in Either the big ten or the SEC for every year that the bCS was in existence, they wouldnt have made maybe one bowl appearence. This is one of the main reasons that they wont join a conference, because it would kill their team alltogether. As for the TV stations crapping themselves because of ratings, every bowl game from today on will have more people watching it. Michigan is wide know to have the largest network of Alum, and you can bet that program, although it lost to lowly ND, will be good again next year, and the next, and the next. Because Michigan is an elite academic institution as well as a football powerhouse. The reason they havent been getting talent, is not neceessarily because they wont let in lower caliber academic students, most of their coaches couldnt recruit a band member to play, let alone a football player. There are plenty of top tier athletes who do very well in school, and yet choose other programs, because they have an actual chance to win. I understand that the ND golden helmets may bring a tear to your eye everytime you watch Rudy, but the fact is, their football brings a tear to much of the football world. File them away with the old time powers..stick a fork in them, they are done. Im out

There are severe holes in your argument. First, the reason the NYY are the NYY is because they carry more talent than any other team, and win more than any other team. As for as ND goes, they are a mid-level talent pool. They dont recruit well in FLA, TX, CA, OH or MI. These are where many of the large amounts of talent are located. ND doesnt mean what it used to in the 70's and 60's. It is now a school that cannot recruit based on its reputation, and is consistently out-performed by more than 20 school per year. If you can tell me the last time the NYY was outperformed this consistently then please enlighten me. Now the reason that Marriotti is wrong is because unlike his predecessors, Charlie Weis will actually go out and recruit players based on his merit, and his accomplishments. He will no longer point to the golden dome and say "come here, we were good 30 years ago." Today's college athletes want to pursue a career in the NFL, and Charlie Weis knows what it is to succeed at that level. That is one of the reasons that he will attract a little more talent than the drought that has been their classes. ND can longer recruit itself, because it is no longer a football power. Regardless of the scheduling, the following whatever you want to point at, they are no longer elite in college football. And that is why he is wrong.

I think the one thing that has been proven on this board, and with this team, is that there is NO baseball logic. :finger
-
there looks to be slight hints of construction, but nothing major, I am not sure if they are waiting for the cold to pass or what. Who knows, as far as iam concerned dont build the damn thing at all.

All he does on that show is agree with the host for points. It is the same way with his writing and on his radio show. He has an opinion just to have one. he never backs up his arguments, and when it comes down to it, he will side with the popular opinion, which in this city, was the cubs. He is a terrible writer and a below average sports mind, its not long before more people see that.
-
I believe in santa..........I want Grudz, just because I think we should take someone from the cubs because they are going to sign Maggs....
-
I agree with him for a change. The excitement on the north side would be so high, and then they would cry for the next 5 years about how the wind effected their team. I hate all of them
-
I agree with you on this, even if he cant eat up too many innings. The innings that he does eat up with be a better quality than those two pitchers. Their ERA will both jump up if they both are moving to the american league. Which would mean that Duque would be a better value.
-
Lets save this quote and see if what you think has any validity....4.75 in the national league =5.75 in the american league. Even Clemens, who is arguably the best of all time had 4.60, 3.70, 3.51, 4.35, 3.91 in the five previous years before he went to the national league. Then he had 2.98 this last year. Thats a 1 point differentiation in ERA, and he is the best around. Im not saying that its a law, but its very probable that his ERA will jump more than a point or two, and then be no better than Jason Grilli

the bears jerseys are the best because they are old school. They are the second team in the NFL, and the most winningest. Thats why they are cool.
-
true dat, they single handedly make their team more popular in the city, by basically whining and crying every day in the paper about their team. The cubune is VERY one-sided
-
yeah, it has really become on of the hot spots, especially during day games. My seats were front row of that section, and we always made a few trips up to the top of the steps to hang out and whatnot. Its a shame they are going to cover it

The bullet holes were a myth, as some of the projects were located across the highway. Of course it would take a sniper rifle to hit the upper deck seats with a bullet. As far as neighborhoods go, the worst projects in the city are actually on the northside of town. This is something cubs fans would not make public. But to answer your question, I have been a season ticket holder for awhile, and I even used to go to old comiskey, which was way way way better than wrigley. The cell has become a great place to watch a game, not only because of the fans, but the baseball and the food as well. Cubs fan, I mean real die-hard cubs fans, are few and far between. They do exist, however, and are very knowledgeable. But generally for the most part, there are wrigley field fans. Who only go there because there are bars in the area who will serve beer to minors. Its a great place to party because of the baseball atmosphere. But if anyone recalls, back in the 80's/90's when the sox were good, and the cubs were s***, the sox were way more popular as far as the casual baseball fan goes. You can really get a feeling for this when you live here for awhile. The true baseball fan watches games on the south side.
-
I agree, the left field bleacher concourse, right above my season ticket seats, is a very big party area for the stadium. In fact it is where a majority of fans go to relax and drink beer as well as smoke. I thought it was a terrible idea to put it there, and I think that it may ruin what has become a little warmer side of the CELL

Milton signed a contract with the reds at almost the exact same value as Matt Clement's. With a 4.75 ERA, the question is...did the reds overpay for Milton, and is the trend this offseason overpaying for sp's who arent really that good???
-
welcome!!!!!! Hate the jets cause Pennington killed my college (Miami University) when I was in school...but always welcome another sox fan.
-
Now, if you were a GM, and your job was to make your team a better overall team. Would you take that trade??? would you really take Carla and Borchard???? come on people, fair trades are on in this league
-
mmm, nothing like some 5 million dollar insurance. I'd rather have a catcher than another 2b who might not be a huge improvement. I think Valdez could be as good as Polanco, not to mention, we arent going to trade anyone for him. So get over it
-
im so sick of hearing from these polanco lovers. Are you kidding me??? 5 million bucks for a 2b?? we dont have the budget for that, even though it would give some of you some serious wet dreams
-
I swear...one more thread that mentions trading PK
babybearhater replied to Wanne's topic in Pale Hose Talk
midol, lots of midol. No more posting after PMS, ok?? thanks OUT -
its funny that you claimed that Cairo was so much better than ECK in the other thread, now you dont seem to mind him. Funny how we all forget......
