  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2013 -> 05:30 PM) 7m Daryl Van Schouwen Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan thornton about 15 pounds lighter, big focus on eating right. didnt bounce back from outings last year w same life. things you do at age 36. Maybe he will rebound sort of like Dunn did last year with a better eating and fitness regimen. It is always good to hear these reports. Pitching is the name of the game and we need the best out of a talented group
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 08:20 PM) Meghan Montemurro ‏@M_Montemurro Cooper on Danks: "If you lined up 10 pitchers on the mounds out there & said pick out the guy who had surgery, you couldn't have did it." Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan Cooper: Longer spring will benefit Danks. Most pleased with Danks' changeup. Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN Don Cooper described it as a "really good day 4 John (Danks)." Tyler Flowers impressed by curveball, change & cutter. Said velo down a bit. Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan Flowers, who caught Danks, said the lefty's curve was better than he's ever seen. Changeup good. Velocity down a little, which was expected Everything is so positive in ST and let's hope the performances stay that way after ST
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 06:37 PM) Paul Konerko, Dewayne Wise, Keenyn Walker and Gordon Beckham are early arrivals among position players. Good role models and examples to the others
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2013 -> 12:32 AM) If Danks has a normal John Danks year, that contract is a bargain. That is thinking positive and to go along with that if Dunn can get his average up and still hit around 40 homers and get at least 100 RBI's then his contract isn't too bad either. I would like to see that average up to at least .250/.260 which he can do IMO
  5. QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 9, 2013 -> 10:45 PM) So that'd be 38 years old for the park. I honestly think if between now and 2029 the Cubs get a new modern park, the Sox would start clamoring for one of their own as well. Like everyone is saying, it's all about location, if they had a park that was closer to downtown, close to all the subways with an amazing view of the skyline, they'd be cracking 3 mil regularly... Especially if they had winning teams haha. They have to stay on the Southside right?! MAybe the Southside of downtown would be ok
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 1, 2013 -> 09:11 AM) Scott Rolen is terrible. Over his last 599 PAs, he's put up .244/.301/.397/.698. Rios for Olt is kind of a cool idea. Ok but what production did we have there before? At the right price he might be an option considering he would be sharing playing time with Keppinger.
  7. No to trading Rios or Viciedo. But, Scot Rolen might be an option at 3B and use Keppinger as the super utilityman
  8. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jan 31, 2013 -> 06:10 PM) I know I haven't posted in a while on here, but I need your help. So I've been picked as one of 50 finalists to get into the MLB Fan Cave. So in typical Chicago fashion I need my fellow ST members to vote early & often. It'd be pretty cool to get to go to spring training & cover the rest of the season. Thanks in advance, I'll give everyone that votes a free hug. Vote here -> http://mlbfancave.mlb.com/fancave/vote.jsp...5952ebd8b6c7d44 Good for you! You have all my votes
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2013 -> 09:44 PM) When I think of moving to a different City, I don't think of staying in the same market. It sounds like the Expos moving to Washington. Exactly
  10. 27 players has been mentioned before and might be intersting in that you might see some professional pinch hitters like Smoky Burgess again
  11. More contact and less strikeouts? Very novel idea
  12. QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Jan 26, 2013 -> 10:22 PM) Terribly irresponsible comment from Sale. He obviously doesn't read the Healthy Eating Thread. Michelle Obama won't make him the poster child for healthy eating will she!!!
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2013 -> 04:36 PM) MOre at link... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,2911915.story Good report. I don't think he needs to rush it fregardless of how good he feels. Spring Training for the hurlers is just a few weeks away
  14. 15 lbs of raging rippling muscles I bet
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin Thigpen on ceiling of White Sox bullpen: "How good can the group be? Best in baseball. I think." ok
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2013 -> 11:48 PM) With where pitching contracts when this off season, Danks might be one of the easiest players on our roster to get a big haul for if he comes back healthy. Everyone wants to get your good players for nothing. Maybe hanging on to your own young players is reeally the best way to go?
  17. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 22, 2013 -> 05:24 PM) Liriano was a bullpen killer with those 5 inning starts. I agree that Liriano was not the answer. The fellow has a lot of talent for sure, but just can't put it together. I did think the trade for Youkilis was a good move though.
  18. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 22, 2013 -> 09:08 PM) The Sox rotation and pen will be very solid. I can't wait for the season to start. Will be at the Cell for about 30 games this season I wish I could be there for at least 30 games. Lucky you
  19. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 22, 2013 -> 05:43 PM) Platooning Viciedo was the easiest problem to fix. It amazed me that they kept sending him out there against RH'ers when he was so overmatched. I thought it was because they were trying to keep his trade value high, but after the deadline he continued to contribute to sucking the life out of the bottom of the order vs. rh'ers. I don't see this. If Viciedo can't hit right handed pitchers he shouldn't and wouldn't be on this team. I think there are a lot more RHP's then LHP's so his playing time would have been limited. If he has the potential the Sox think he has then he needs to start everday and learn to be more selective at the plate. I think he did improve and I am looking for good things from him this year.
  20. Looks like a solid role player plus it seems thst there are still some FA's out there at reasonable dollars. That is what I like to see. Sign people that complement what you alreday have and not spend huge dollars on a one shot guy
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 19, 2013 -> 12:46 AM) Gordon wins the MVP next year hitting .413 with 35 HR, and 178 RBIs with an OPS of .800 plus nor minus acouple homers maybe
  22. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 08:57 PM) I've a feeling Beckham will have a huge year I am in this corner
  23. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 08:03 PM) FWIW, fangraphs places his performance last year at a value of $3.5M and the year before at $4.5M http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playe...sition=2B#value I am glad we don't have some of our fans making personnel decisions for this team. The salary Beckham just received is not really that high when compared to others. He is an excellent defender and even though he is not a Babe Ruth has shown improvement with the bat. Plus he is home grown and I would rather stick with our own folks
