QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 10:07 PM) No Morel. Interesting. If they can sign Youkilis how much you want to bet Morel is traded this off season?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 07:08 PM) Start him in KC. He is our only hope to shut down the unbeatable Royals!!!! I think he is a relief option not a starter

Game on Saturday is televised on WGN also. Like so much to see some bombs hit by Dun et al on Sox team

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 03:31 AM) That's a pretty good post when you think about it. Yes. Who can argue we would like better and have a healthy team. Basically we are down Dunn and Konerko who are counted on to be big RBI guys. But, the team continues to comepete

20 games left and a one game lead in my opinion means you play for wins and not match ups

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2012 -> 07:59 PM) Why? Because no one thought we would be in first place this late in the season, and why not enjoy it How many would have thought we would be in first place on 9-13-12?

I need to plan my threatened trip to Chicago for 2013 plus maybe to Seattle which is closer. I might do both but being in Chicago with fellow Sox fans seems to be the best idea at this point
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 08:31 PM) Maybe if Sox fans showed up to the park, the networks would think about broadcasting our games nationally... I can't disagree but still at this point in the season it should be the pennant race that matters and not the myth

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 08:32 PM) I see Dan Johnson is punished for reaching 3 out of 4 times yesterday. Sure doesn't help the team when he sits on the bench. Think you might go with the hot hand here and we haven't had too many -
"Tiger Killer" Floyd to come back Wed/Liriano pushed back?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 11:11 PM) Or pitchers that won't listen to his advice... What was his advice? Throw strikes? But, regardless Liriano has been kind of a bust for us. -

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) East coast bias. It's all rammed down our throats. I am betting that all 18 or whatever games the Yanks and Boston play against each other gets the national broadcast. Ridiculous

QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 06:04 PM) Perhaps the biggest "duh" in the last 2 months is that Paul Konerko is OBVIOUSLY playing hurt. We've had years of watching this guy. Sure, he's had a slump or three over the years, but throughout, when going well or not so well, he's consistently been one of the top pure fastball hitters in the game. THAT GUY has been M.I.A. for months now. Every so often you'll see Konerko "cheat" and turn a middle-in fastball around, but for months now he's been getting beat by the heat, just aiming the outside fastballs for flares into right, and getting little bat speed and thin wood on anything with velocity in. Will anyone be surprised when a few days after the season we hear that Paulie is having surgery on his wrist? Unfortunately, while it's admirable to be a tough guy and to take one for the team, a team can't survive when the guy who should be the best all around hitter and consistent power threat has been morphed into nothing more than a smart hitter with far less than average ability to drive the ball. And if you're forced to play that guy, he shouldn't be sitting in the clean-up spot. I've been a huge Konerko fan for years and years, but team management should have said "screw the macho stuff, we're sitting your butt down because you aren't helping (and can't help) the team." And of course we have many other problems. Konerko alone is not to blame. But Paul's "injury" is a big part of why the second half Sox are so beatable. Is he feared like Cabrera or Fielder? Not even close. Present version Konerko is feared less that Gordon/Butler! Cy, you sound as if this team dropped out of the race? I think we have done well regardless of PK's injury especially when the so called experts had us finishing below .500

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 05:42 PM) My guy at Sox park has heard Konrko's been playing with a fractured hand/wrist for quite some time. Don't knowe about any fracture but many of us have speculated that his hand or wrist injury is worse than originally thought

The only game I have found at this time is WGN on Saturday is showing the Sox and Twins at something like 1100 AM MDT Of course tonight we can see the Yankmees and BlowSox on MLBN. What a waste of a prime time game slot

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 07:34 PM) If it starts raining at 5pm and it looks like a 3 hour rain delay (which means a 10p start), I wonder if they'll just bang it and make the Tigers come back Monday. Before the game starts, it's in the Sox hands, right? I think it is the home team decision. But, my guess is they will play if they can regardless of when it ends. Both teams only have about 2 hour flights at the most to get to the next series. Sox in Minnesota and who cares swhere the Tigers go to -

I am not counting on this game being rained out. It seems to take a lot to cancel the game and I am not sure any of that hurricane moisture is still out there. We just might have to face Verlander tonite. The guy has lost 8 games this year so he can be beat even by this team I think. Last night our bullpen was bad but the offense tried to come back against an equally leaky Detroit pen. I hope Chris Sale has enough in the tank and learned from last Sunday and we can score one more run then the Tigers. Let's win one for the Gipper -
QUOTE (onedog#1 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 07:04 PM) Hey, new poster here long time follower here at soxtalk. Grew up loving the early 90's sox since that was my first memory gives you an idea of my age, 25 here. Anyways.. just wanting to comment on the rest of this sox tigers series, was hoping we could yesterdays game with their 2 big arms pitching today and tomorrow. We are still relying on the long ball got them yesterday but all solo. I feel the sox need to put the pressure on this bad tigers defense these next two games knowing that verlander and max not going to throw too many bad pitches to sox hitters ( hopefully im wrong on that) I just know Hawk and Stoney were critical in the previous series in Detroit for not laying many bunts down with Cabrera with a bum ankle, put the pressure on them were at home.. need one of these next two games. Hopefully Gavin " no emoticons" Floyd keeps his success going against the tigers. I don't have much confidence in liriano getting his control back in the pen, but will see.. Welcome. And I am not real conident in Liriano anymore either. I guess there was a reason he was 3-10 with the Twinkies and they were ready to let him go. Lots of talent but he just can't seem to harness it
-
If Gavin Floyd is ready to rumble tonight and pitches us to awin it will make a great story
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) How about Youk and Wise for striking out in key situations. Konerko for going down weak in another key situation. The players had piss-poor execution. Liriano pitched like ass too. There is plenty of blame to go around. Robin deserves some too, but this game wasn't on any one person. Correct
-
The offense is not getting the job done & we can't always count on the long ball. But, Peavy needs to be able to step up in these big game situations. But, then again he isn't the only pitgcher on this team that needs to do that. I just don't know what to make or expect of these next two games. Floyd hopefully comes out with his best stuff and isn't tentative. Usually with him and a few others it's that firsty or second inning. Get through that and they usually do good. I guess even if we lose the next two we are still in first place but we have to start executing better
