  1. I took this from the Sun-Times article today on Crede's staying power. He said he wants to stay with the Sox and here is some comments from an opponent: ''Do I want to be in Chicago? Absolutely. It's a great city, great fans, it's the perfect situation for me and my family to be there. If not, we'll move on, wherever that might be. As long as I'm playing baseball, I'll be happy.'' The baseball world took notice of Crede's impending exit from Chicago. ''He's probably the most underrated player in the league,'' Minnesota Twins All-Star closer Joe Nathan said. ''One of those guys who is Gold Glove-caliber defensively. It seems like he is making unbelievable plays, especially against us. Offensively, he kills us. You feel like you make a great pitch to the guy, and he's standing on second base. He fits in perfectly with their lineup. ''That's why I was surprised to see they were talking about getting rid of him. We were like, 'We'll take him if you guys don't want him.'''
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 07:06 AM) There used to be a time fans were proud of their all stars. Now in the Internet/talk show era many fans only are currently jazzed about one of our two all stars. Sad there's so much Crede hate. I agree. I said before that we seem all to ready to eat our young around here. We should value our own players more than we do.
  3. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 01:22 AM) 14 of CQ's 22 HR have given us the lead, or at least tied the game this year. An amazing impact player is Quentin
  4. I wouldn't give up our top notch talent for him
  5. I have always been a Paul Konerko supporter and will remain so. He is a leader on this team, if not the leader along with Buerhle
  6. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 09:17 PM) I like the fact the Sox are looking for an upgrade in the rotation, but I don't like that it's Duchscherer. 1.His value has never been higher. Ever. Not the most ideal time to trade for a guy. 2. I know people think Beane "gave away" Harden to the Cubs, but it was a solid package, the Cubs were just deep enough to be able to trade pieces that didn't hurt their club. 3.Duch is at 108 IP right now. The last time he threw that many innings was in AAA in 03. I don't know if I trust his arm in the 2nd half. I agree that Beane didn't give away Harden. What he got in retgurn was solid and Harden has such an injury history I think it was a sound move by Oakland. As far as the Sox looking at the #1 starter the A's have all I have to say is wow! I really wonder how much truth there is to this though. Oakland isn't out of it in their own division yet are they?
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 06:32 PM) Why is Javy Vazquez not being worried about and not being replaced by AAA pitching? His season has been pretty similar to Contreras. Understood, but even when he has lost he has shown games where he kept the Sox in it. He lost once recently where he k'd 10 didn't he, but lost because he gave up two homers,
  8. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 12:41 AM) Also would be nice to figure out what's going on with Linebrink. I'd really like to see if we could find a decent starter. With Konerko, I'm thinking no matter how horrible he is, they're not going to pull the plug on him. I mean, the Captain riding the bench? Just can't see it. Find a decent starter? Good point for insurance pursposes but I wonder if Esteban Loaiza is stil seen as that insurance? I think the next week will be intersting and maybe KW thinks he has to make a move especially with the way Jose has looked. Someone mentioned a dead arm and that I would suppose is very possible, but you hope we see signs of him coming out of that before July 31st when a trade decision might have to be made.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 03:53 AM) I will point one thing out. Contreras struggles mean the Sox will keep and even closer eye on Freddy Garcia's progress. You can bet your ass if Garcia shows a healthy arm and some decent velocity in a workout that Ozzie and Kenny will be on the horn and Garcia will be back in a Sox jersey making rehab starts down in AAA. That may very well be true, but don't you think a decision would have to come pretty soon? Garcia might like the Sox better than say the Tigers, but at what cost? We have heard this stuff before about the Ozzie factor when Latin players make their decisions, but it always seems to not pan out.
  10. Yesterdays game against the Rangers seemed to sum it all up. Off speed pitch after off speed pitch. I am concerned about Contreras too. How do we though as a first place club justify trading someone off our starting rotation with no one to step in for them? What contender would take Jose over let's say an AJ Burnett? In fact we might want AJ Burnett. What do we have to give up? Jose is in the tank and why is the $64K question.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) Konerko on waivers... pray someone takes him. It won't happen. This is so reminscent of the year he was hitting .198 at the break. He will come around.
  12. Crede is in a slump. Baseball players do that from time to time. To say he is through, or that his back is the reason doesn't make any real sense - only to those that have been convinced since last year that this is the problem. If we made trades and other moves based on what someone has done over a month or less this entire team would have been gone. Joe is still doing a god job and I really think the fact he just isn't 100% comfortable is because of his being off the field for almost a year. It takes awhile to get the edge back and apparently others think he still has it or he wouldn't be an all-star.
  13. You know that no one feels worse about the poor performance today than Konerko himself. We should be rallying around him and not trying to burn him at the stake. I think Paulie will get things turned around in the second half. He is hitting the ball hard when he does hit it and that's got to be a good sign.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) Wait, 6 miscues: - Contreras missing first on what should have been a 3-6-1 DP - OC's throw in the dirt to allow runner to reach 3rd - Swisher misplaying fly ball - Uribe's ball through the legs - PK throwing it away - Ramirez misses pop up Someone in management should be kicking butt over this display. Unreal.
  15. I have been back and forth on XM radio. Offense is what has kept us in this thing, but even then we ought to have about a dozen runs. Pitching and defense have been horrid. What's up with that anyway?
  16. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 12:43 PM) His won his major league debut against the Angels five days ago, went 7 innings with a walk and a strikeout, gave up 2 runs. He's 6 feet 4 inches tall. So apparently he's got control and pitches to contact. This could be real tough. I hope contact is our game and they blast it. Last nights game could very well have been a 15 run game for the Sox offense with as many as we left on base. I am guessing the bats have awakened.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) Out with a group and dinner are 2 different things. I happened to be there. I had some drinks in a group of about 8-10 a couple of times with him and his brother. He did pick up the tab. You make it sound like he took me out for some 7 course meal and we held hands on a romantic walk by the lake. I also said being out with him a couple of times might make me biased in my opinion of him as a player, but again, maybe not. I've usually been pretty loyal to the players I like, and I also have taken to the habit of "adopting" Soxtalk whipping boys. They usually make you look good eventually. Heck if I had the chance to have adrink or two or have dinner with any Sox player I would be ecstatic. Why is there an issue here? I say good for "Dick Allen". How was Uribe to talk to anyway? I bet you had fun and that's all that counts in my book.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 01:04 AM) No comment on velocity, but it sounds as if he's going to pitch on Monday and Wednesday. I like it. Who goes down? Carrasco? If so we might lose him obviously. I know it was only one appearance, but he was doing good at AAA too
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 09:41 PM) Those 1-2-3 strikeout 9th innings really suck huh? Good one
  20. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 02:36 AM) Jimmy has lost his power. Do we need Paulie? This.Team.Is.Dead Correction. They rose from the fire and ashes like a Phoenix.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 02:35 AM) The stretch from Nicky the Swish was just as good... Man that was some play all the way around!!! I posted on another topic about it. I was watching it on WGN and Hawk was calling the batted ball a hit when all of sudden Ramirez stabbed it and made that throw and Swisher gave it the best stretch to catch it. WOW! I think it will make ESPN Plays of the Game what do you think?
  22. Paulie was my PTC for the night and regardless if he loses out to Thome in this game tonight it is so good to see those two guys and Dye getting it done.
  23. I watched the game on WGN. It got a bit dicey there at the end, but what a lay by Ramirez. Hawk was calling it a basehit when Alexi stabbed the ball and made the throw. Then to see Swisher strech out and get it just made it a highlight play for sure. Good to see the performance by Konerko. I am sure he is a happy guy too. Thome is hitting too and now we can for sure go to the All-Star break in 1st place
  24. QUOTE (tommy @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 05:50 PM) While pitching great from Danks.. let's not forget so score some runs! Always an important concept to a winning ballclub It is just like the baseball manager replied when asked why he thought his team lost, "they scored more runs than we did."
