  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 08:03 PM) Oh yeah, that was another thing - thanks for reminding me. AJ seems to be taking signals from the bench now than he ever did before. He is less prepared. His attitude isn't news - its a question of how much its effected his play. It isn't uncommon for catchers to be directed from the bench. Maybe that's the problem?! AJ can't make the pitchers hit their locations or be CY Young. I don't think it's AJ's problem.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) I'm so glad we signed Mike Myers he makes me long for the days of Dave Sanders and Josh Stewart. Terrible. Two more months of Myers, who hasn't done nayhting posiitve in his brief Sox time, may be a real bummer.
  3. What's the weather supposed to be like on Friday evening? I see that game is scheduled for WGN broadcast and maybe I will be able to watch it.
  4. Two games so far with Myers and no success. However, maybe he just needs time to get back in shape?
  5. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 10:08 PM) Contreras is weak-minded? Let's see your background and how tough you are. Until you've become an exile and a refugee and pitch your team to a World Series, you don't have the proper, ah, credentials to call Jose Contreras weak-minded, bad though he's been of late because of his arm angles and family problems. I agree that he is not weak minded. That was an unfortunate and unnecessary comment. But, Jose is not pitching well. Better, but still not at the top of his game.
  6. Pods pinch ran today so the injury can't be or shouldn't be that serious. Just a few days off is all.
  7. QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 09:10 PM) so have any of you guys noticed any holes/weaknesses in fields swing that would allow the league to catch up to him next year, that would severely hurt his power numbers? or will his raw talent be enough? He can't lay off the high strike and the outside curve
  8. Myers and Floyd give up three runs in relief and we lose 7-6. Konerko couldn't get it done against some KC pitcher in the 9th. Maybe KW picked up the wrong KC reliever? If Contreras could just quit giving up runs early we might see him win a game. Field swith a 3 run homer and I think he might win the PTC. I took Thome on Tuesday and Fields today so I am thinking I have a chnce to get a couple of clickie wins.
  9. This Bannister kid for KC must be pretty sharp. I see that Jim Thome took three straight called strikes for the K in the bottom of the 5th! Fooled or what?
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 07:35 PM) We are guaranteed to have Jose next year. It's not a question of whether or not his contract is worht keeping. We are not guaranteed to have Floyd next year, so the question is...do we have any reason to want him. He's at least given us 1 good start, which is just about as many as Jose in the last 2 months. Don't you think they are more apt to keep Floyd in the organization at least because of youth and try to get Jose straightened out possibly for trade bait? One good start and 5 or 6 bad outings by Floyd were not encouraging to me. I am following your line of reasoning though.
  11. QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 06:21 PM) someone tell me again why Contreras is in the rotation and instead of seeing what Floyd could do over an extended period of starts, he is in the pen? It might be because Floyd has already shown he sucks as bad as Jose. I sure don't need to see more of that this season, but I do want to see whether Jose and his $10M contract are worth keeping for another year.
  12. Checking Game Day and I see that Jose has his usual first inning problems followed by second inning problems. He has allowed at least 8 baserunners in 5 innings and 4 runs. It is so frustrating when a pitcher gives up runs and the offense bails them out and then they immediatly give up more runs.
  13. QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 01:07 PM) i can only imagine he meant to put that in green because then we would only have 8 pitchers on the roster. Let me do that for him GREEEEEENNN
  14. Platoon line ups? I am just hoping that we have a healthy group in 2008 and this was just a bad dream this year. If Pods is healthy, if Erstad is healthy, if Thome is healthy, if Contreras is healthy, if our relievers are healthy, etc, etc, the Sox can win games and be a contender in 2008.
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 01:05 AM) Or you could trade a slightly above league average starting pitcher who will make $12M next year and fill a couple other holes with the return. It's kind of funny that this sort of talk bothers you so much seeing as how Buehrle was being shopped hard at the beginning of the season and Garland has nearly been dealt twice since joining the team (including one such deal that broke down just this past offseason). Kalapse, your expert analysis of our players amazes me. Buerhle shouldn't have been traded either and wasn't. I spoke out against that trade idea too. Buerhle, Garland and Vazquez are better than "slightly above average." I am not too certain about Contreras anymore and if we get offered a good return in a trade that maybe Jose should go, but when he is on he is one of the best and has shown that. You don't mess around with trading away good pitching just because they have a rough stretch.
  16. Jon Garland has some bad games and we want to trade him right away?! Mark Buerhle had some bad games too in fact a stretch of them last year. Jon is a quality pitcher and will turn things around. If you trade any of our starting group, who is going to take their place? Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
  17. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 01:40 AM) lefties are hitting .212 against Logan this year with 14 hits and 15 k's in 18 innings and only 1 home run. Myers did have a 2.66 ERA in 41 innings for NY yes, but he's 38 and the only reason this is happening is he's from around here. Also, lefties hit .312 against Myers in 18 innings and righties hit .182 in 22 innings, and lefties hit him better last year too. This singing is almost as confusing as those numbers, we already have our LOOGY in Boone (although he's not used right by Ozzie) and Myers is old and not even getting lefties out anymore. What we need is the true lefty that gets everybody out, and with the way Matt Thornton has looked this season, we don't have him yet. Those numbers are confusing for sure
  18. I saw at the end of the story on Chisox.com that Myers had a 2.66 ERA in 55 games with the Yanks? He was then released?! I don't follow other teams much and muck like Ozzie I don't look at stats a lot either, but that is a pretty good record for someone getting canned by the Yankmees. Is this a true stat?
  19. I watched the historical loss last night on WGN. Tired of hearing Hawk carry on about how our hitter "just missed it," or how the young player is going to be a real bnig league star as he gives up 9 hits and some walks in 6 innings or strikes out and a young reliever comes in to blow it again. Puzzling year because we have so much talent.
  20. This was a good move and I applauid Dye and the White Sox for doing it. We can compete next year and Dye will be a big part of that reason. What we need now is a stronger pen, Crede at 3B and Fields in LF and a new CF'er. Maybe even a new SS. We will see.
  21. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 01:30 AM) I'm happy for you. I'm sure it means a lot, considering the fact that you're in Montana and probably don't get to watch enough. Your right. Most of the time it's WGN once a week if I am lucky. You have to take it where you can find it. Sucks listening to the other teams announcers though.
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 01:28 AM) Sorry to hear it. It didn't happen (watching the Sox Friday on FSN-NW.) I ended up watching the mud wrestling championships for Mongolia, or something like that, while the TV info center kept claiming it should be the Sox-Mariners game. Well, Saturday it;s WGN time.
  23. Here we get TV Fox Sports NW and I can watch the Sox play the Mariners tonight and Sunday. Saturday they are on WGN so 3 nights of Chisox baseball.
  24. Why all the discussion over trading our starting pitching which is our strength? I think the adage used by the old time baseball execs still rings true: You don't trade pitching for hitting. You need the good pitching to win as 2005 showed us.
  25. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 04:08 AM) I also like Thome but agree his time has come. The shift is tiresome. He never foils it and he's not whacking home runs. That plus his bad back makes him look like he's on the downside. Not that losing him will help this horrible team. The Sox offense is putrid and losing Thome won't help any. It's amazing all our sluggers are hitting about .260 with decreased homer production. Not good. Forget about the shift. Thome is paid to hit homers and the problem is he is not hitting them, or as many as we would like. The whole offense is in a funk this year. It is unbelievble for sure.
