QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 04:48 AM) When is the last time a Sox rookie has put up those kind of home run numbers? Wouldn't he look good as Sox DH the next 20 years? Trade Thome who is showing he still has some pop in his bat for some studs and let Fields DH? Just a thought. You're losing me with all this bubbly excitement. Trading Thome is not an option. Josh Fields can fit into LF quite well I believe alhtough it will be defensively a work in progress for awhile. Josh has shown a good power bat with a poor BA and OBP. I would think that as he learns at the major league level that will improve. We might see better numbers in 2008. He is certainly someone to look forward to in our line up though.

#500 as a walk off, is this a first??
elrockinMT replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 03:58 PM) It's amazing how in almost every article I've read this morning about Thome's HoF credentials nearly every one of them uses the fact that Thome has spent a very large portion of his career at DH against him. GP at 1B: 1101 GP at 3B: 492 GP at DH: 377 So apparently spending 19% of your career at designated hitter is enough to keep you out of the hall of fame. And yes I do put him in on the first ballot. With so many f***ing dickheads and arrogant pricks being voted in I could probably find a place on my ballot for the nicest, most gracious, most humble man to ever play the game. To put up such amazing numbers for so long all while being such an amazing human being and ambassador to the game is just remarkable. Thanks for making this post Kalapse and listing the stats. It is exactly wehat I was thinking. Thome has played IB most of his career and can still play first if needed. The naysayers will use this against (and have already) the Big Hurt. Frank has more DH time than Jim, Thome and Thomas both belong in the HOF. -
#500 as a walk off, is this a first??

I get to see the Sox on WGN on Saturday and they lose 2-1. Today they rally from 7-1 and Thome hits #500 and it's a walk off winner. Of all the luck. I would think in baseball history that this #500 by Big Jim Thome would rank up there memory wise like Ted Williams hitting a homer in his last major league at bat -
It's on WGN tonight so I'll see you all on the TV. Garland is pitching for the Sox

Huuuuum! The state of the American education system is dubious at best.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 05:50 PM) You find me one instance where a sane person called Iguchi and bum and I'll give you 50 bucks. Iguchi did a good job for the Sox and actually I was quite surprised he was sent to the Phils. I wouldn't have a problem with him being back in a Sox uniform. As far as other Japanese players are concerned it will be interesting to see just how aggressive the Sox are in that market.

We traded away our CF'er of the future with Chris Young going to Arizona. It doesn't seem any of the other so called prospects are ready and not sure if they ever will be

Cleveland Indians @ Chicago White Sox - Game Thread
elrockinMT replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2007 Season in Review
Danks give up a homer in the top of the second to Garko. How many homers has he given up a million this year? Floyd at 3 million allowed. We have a runner is scoring position (Pods with a single and a SB) but our big guns can't do anything of course. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) From Phil Rogers; Shoulder surgery?

I don't want to see Garland traded so I vote Tejada/other. I think Miguel Tejada would fit in real well with this team.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 11:11 AM) Well, this is so sad. But now, it's really to the point that I hope they play well yet end up with that magical #1 pick. 61-83. I know. It's so sad isn't it? You can only hope we have some fire for next year. We see bad thirdbase defense and very poor relief pitching. We have a SS that can field really well, but swings at everything. He does have power when he does connect though. Rookies all over the roster. Anyway let's hope experience is gained and we get a bullpen in place for next year and also get Crede back at 3B.

I saw Great Falls play in Billings a couple times. Pretty solid pitching and very good defense is what I saw from the rookie league Sox.

Floyd's arm beginning to convert some believers
elrockinMT replied to DBAHO's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You have to gauge a player over at least a full season or more to say they have mde it in the bigs. A start or two one way or the other is really not the way to go. Of course it helps a pitcher when he has better than low grade level defense behind him and real bad relief pitching. Floyd has potential and that's not a question, but can he be consistent as a winner? -
Alex Cintron...personally insuring the #1 draft pick
elrockinMT replied to chiguy79's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 10, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) Actually what this speaks to is the situation with the Sox bench. I am convinced they will pursue more speed for the bench and guy(s) who are very good defensively. If you attempt to build your team around pitching you'd better have stellar defense. Cintron doesn't offer much of anything, he has little speed, is not a selective nor particularly dangerous hitter, and we are seeing his defense. Not to trash him because he has had an awful year off the field, but it is what it is. You could be right about pursuing more bench strength. However, I think Cintron is just fine playing the role he was supposed to play and that's back up 2b and SS. You won't get a .300 average/30 homer man on the bench. Guys like Alex and Gonalzez and Pablo were signed to fill in as needed and not play everyday. Of course that isn't to say we don't need better or wouldn't benefit from better. -
Alex Cintron...personally insuring the #1 draft pick
elrockinMT replied to chiguy79's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What we saw today from Cintron and what we have seen from Gonzalez and even to some extent from Fields at 3B is the reason we need to keep Joe Crede. If Joe was at 3B today we would have won the game. -
Next year will be different that's what is so great about baseball

The biggest comeback in White Sox history
elrockinMT replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Baseball history says it is the first time two teams scored 6 runs each in the 9th to remain tied. I only saw the briewf ESPNBBTN highlights, but it looked like fun foir Sox fans to watch. I have to wait till Sunday to see the Sox on WGN. -
We can't go into next year with the same bullpen as we have now except for Jenks. Part of me thinks that the youth in the pen might be learning from this disasterous year and will be better next year, but on the other hand I don't see the talent showing through.
-
Fields at 24 year of age being a DH and not Thome is crazy. I admit it. Fields in LF and Jim Thome is the DH.
-
They all can be coached just not all will apply it. Uribe is one that comes to mind about being more selective at the plate. I would guess that Juan's strength is feilding and some power, but not ever the batting average. I liked Greg Walker as a player, but maybe a change in the hitting coach is warranted since this teams hitting has fallen so bad.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 12:41 AM) Unless he had defenders stationed in the bleachers, they weren't going to help him much. Our pitchers do seem to give up a lot of homers

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 08:53 PM) I know, I know. I was just being silly. Please tell us all now. We are all friends here and your secret will never leave my/our lip(s)

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 03:33 PM) Who else would we have play 3b? This is the smartest move they've done all year, as having Fields in LF is the best move they can make. Like this move!! My hope is Josh is our LF'er of the future and fill in 3Bman. Crede should stay in Chicago and be our 3B gold glover for years. Anyway with Pablo out and Cintron out who else can play 3B? I just hope Josh has been practicing out there.

We are close to having the worse record in all of baseball, but we are all still Sox fans and the great thing about baseball is there is always next year. Let me feel the love! B)
