Hope to be able to watch on WGN, if for no other reason to see what all the hype and hope is with Richar

Iguchi Traded to Phillies for RP/SP Michael Dubee
elrockinMT replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think that basically the trade was made to dump someone and make it look like we are really making some moves here. Iguchi was a good player for the Sox and should have brought more than a class A level player in return. -
When the Sox picked up Richar it was to fill the need for an infielder to develop in the system. The Sox gave up a developing OF prospect. I think most observers knew what the plan was when he was acquired from the DBacks. Hopefully he can contribute at the major league level, but it remains to be seen. It's sad that this is seen as some season saving move though.

QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) Why is everyone so upset with this deal? Iguchi was nothing special. He was serviceable as a 2nd baseman. No flash or star power. I think KW got what he could for the guy. Unless people have seen this guy pitch in the minors, how can you say that we got screwed in this deal? Iguchi wasn't anything special by no means. Apparently we haven't been watching the same 2Bman. Iguchi was a good player and helped the Sox. We get a Class A prospect in return. Hum! -

What kind of deal is this? This is not a good trade IMO and I am not sure just how this is supposed to be helping us unless we sign Dye and Crede. We trade a pretty good 2Bman and keep an overweight underperforming SS? I wonder if there was ever any thought or effort to keep Tad? -
I have also suggested signing Dye. He is in no more of a slump than a number of our players. It happens. Next year will be better. He is a very good hitter with power and drives in runs. If we just let him go I think the team will be very shortsighted. Pods I don't know about. I like his spped and hustle. If he is healthy he brings a lot of upside with him, but that is the problem -staying healthy. Another reason for keeping Dye is I just don't see where our AAA prospects are ready. I would like to see Fields in LF next year and we sign Crede to an extension to play 3B. Fields in LF someone in CF and Dye in RF. The someone in CF could be Pods-Owens-Anderson-Sweeney or a FA signing. One of those four named could be the #4 OF'er also.

We still have a chance!!!!!!!!!!! Danks with a nice first inning and 2 swinging K's

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
elrockinMT replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Remember that even if Contreras doesn't go by July 31st doesn't mean he won't go at all. You still have trades made before Sept 4th even though you have to clear waivers. We won't get much for him though that's for sure. -
We should be keeping Dye that's my opinion. We have a lot of guys having subpar 2007 seasons, but homer and RBI wise he is still at the top. Contreras needs to go adn we need a new bullpen. Dye is not the problem nor are Vazquez and Garland.
-
Jose: He went downhill and kept rolling The bullpen must have worked at a gas station becasue they sure like to add fuel to a fire Every game the pen comes in to pitch makes me cringe just knowing that we are ready to blow up at any time. Hopefully we can get some help for next season.

I am less than impressed. If he was trying to show the club why he should be the fifth starter I think he failed.

White Sox vs. Tigers, 7/24/07 (DH)Game 2(W)
elrockinMT replied to vandy125's topic in 2007 Season in Review
All of his pitches in his last emergency start looked incredibly hittable also. Right down the middle. He learned right off in the 1st inning that you can't make mistakes like he did and get out of the inning unscored on. Of course having a catcher that can't throw out base runners don't help either. -

If Floyd has a future in the Sox rotation tonight would be a good time to show something positive. He has been less than impressive in previous stints in the bigs with the Phils and the one game we saw him pitch in a Sox uniform. I hope that we have someone here that can produce. -

QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 08:25 PM) why trade vazquez unless you're going to do a compete overhaul? Javy never has gotten used to a ballclub because he's always getting traded. He looks lights out against the best team in baseball today. hang on to javy since he's locked up till 2010 (i believe). trade garland unless KW is 100% he can lock Jon up after before next season is up. You don't trade Vazquez. You don't trade Garland or Buerhle either. Contreras goes and you use his $10M somewhere else -
He has been coming through this year for sure. Buerhle-Garland and Vazquez are three pretty good parts to the rotation. Next year danks should be better and we will see who #5 is.

Fields = a cheaper Crede with no back problems
elrockinMT replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
One game and seven homers most certainly doesn't mean that Fields replaces Crede. Joe Crede is a superior defensive thirdbaseman and a 30 homers player. Fields is doing a good job, but rebuilding this team for '08 doesn't mean getting rid of Joe Crede. Crede should be at 3B and also signed to a 3 or 4 year extension. Fields should be moved to LF and play 3B as needed. -
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 01:25 PM) Surprise, surprise.. another Sox employee who has/had issue with Kenny. It's to bad that Kenny is able to continue to hide behind doors about this stuff. Personally, I can't wait till he is canned and all the real dirt is shaken out of the executive rugs. Kudos to Duane for comparing Kenny to Larry Himes. I'm sure Kenny flipped a few tables after reading that one. Steff, I have always valued your insight into front office stuff concerning to Sox. Do you really think KW is a problem though? Should he have credit for winning in 2005? Or is there more to the inner workings we don't know such as someone else actually being the brains and KW trying to take credit for success built on others efforts? Really what I have seen in the last month or so is talk that other GM's are catching on to KW's tactics, but I am not sure I see Reinsdorf firing him over this years failures. But, I want to know more...

Looks like we have a picther on the ropes who is wild. He has walked three in arow and hits a batter. Our great rookie Owens comes up and swings at the first pitch, which looked outside, and grounds back to the pitcher. Inning over. Patience son!
-
Wow! bases loaded and we score a run on a HBP. No hits yet,
-
I can't believe that Uribe actually took 4 straight balls for a walk. Good for Juan.

QUOTE(TheOcho @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 02:30 AM) 93 - 94 is what I see. MLB Game Day is saying release speed on 97. He never threw that fast when he was with the Sox
-
Is Grilli really throwing 95-97 MPH?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 02:12 AM) Thome really, really needs to step it up against lefty pitching. He isn't as clutch as he was last year. Both he and Paulie looked bad yesterday when I saw the game on WGN.
-
Mark has been giving up way too many hits the last couple games. He can get out of it though because he has such great location and confidence. But, eventually all those hits allowed are going to come back to bite you.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 02:04 AM) Yes there was a tongue in cheek premise to this thread. I think we all smiled a bit when replying.
