  1. Jose Valentin and Wilie Harris are two players, other than Rowand, that I really liked. Jose was a great team player. He was doing real well in NY and I could see them being interested in Iguchi.
  2. Once a Sox fan always a Sox fan. You can't not/can't watch a Sox game or follow the season. Anything good might happen at anytime and maybe we get to see some real minor league talent come up and deliver.
  3. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 23, 2007 -> 03:12 AM) According to Peter Gammons on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. The Braves made a trade offer of Édgar Rentería for Jon Garland. The White Sox rejected the trade according to Gammons because the White Sox have no interest in trading Garland. What do you guys make of this deal? Would Urbie be offered in the deal in return? I wouldn't trade Garland either. Contreras is the one that might go, but we would be dismantling a strong starting staff by giving up Buerhle-Vazquez and Garland. Danks is showing a lot of potential and I would hope we have someone in the minors able to step up as #5. It is the bullpen where we need help, if we haven't noticed by now.
  4. A lead off hitter needs to get on base. An OBP less than .300 is not good. But, Owens does bring speed when he gets on, which IMO measn he is a good 4th or 5th OF'er at this point, but not the starting CF'er. (except on this team that is)
  5. I watched the game on WGN. All I can say is we had a chance to win, but the bottom line is when the Red Sox had to perform in the clutch, or take advantage of Chisox mistakes, they did and we didn't take advantage of their's. Very dissapointing, and I know it was for Thome and Konerko also, that they couldn't come through with the bags packed. Twice for Konerko.
  6. Ozzie now feels (as of Saturday that is) that we are out of it. There is no chance for this team to make a run at it. It is all pride from now on. I hope that we don't have to settle for just concentrating on the race between the Royals and Sox to stay out of the basement.
  7. I am not convinced there will be big spending by the Sox on the free agent market this year. Who really is going to be out there that will be a plus relief pitcher? There might very well be heavy bidding on the few that might be there and it will drive up their price. We will probably pick up some younger guys that have not really excelled and are considered works in progress. Or guys that have been hurt and have talent, but won't be demanding the big bucks. That's why I think Jose will get traded and we use the money to keep the likes of Dye and Iguchi and use a little for the leftovers in the free agent market.
  8. I always liked Willie Harris. Couldn't understand why we didn't keep him with the Sox. I think Maggs would have signed here, but we didn't want to give him the kind of money Detroit was willing to give because of the knee injury and the fear of spending too much in payroll. Pods helped us win the World Series and I am not sure Lee could have brought the spark that Pods did, however, Carlos Lee is one real good player. Thome for Rowand and Gio brought us a real good player and great guy, but if we could get Rowand back I'd love it. We got that World Series andf the other didn't, but those players we lost are all top notch. When you struggle like we are this year it just makes you wonder what if.
  9. You have to look for some positives in Jose's start against Boston. The silver lining if you will. I know it's hard when you consider we lost 10-3, but there are some positives. The velocity on his fastball is up to where it should be now and his split finger looked good. I think he was left in too long and I don't know the reason for that when we had two or three rested releivers that could have come in the game. I think Contreras is the main picther on the block right now, but it really will boil down to what we can get in return. Jose can still pitch, but he has no confidence in himself when the tuff stuff starts coming his way. We have a very strong nucleus in the starting pitching area: Buerhle-Garland-Vazquez and even Danks is showing much promise. Contrears is still a professional with a big upside, if we keep him for next year. You don't blow up your team's strength because of one bad year. But, by trading Contretras for something good in return we could save enough in salary to resign Dye and Iguchi and still work the free agent market, if there really is anybody out there this off season we could use. Otherwise the concern I see with this team is the bullpen-not the starting pitching. People were calling for Massett to start after one 5 inning game and now we want to try Haeger. I think Haeger is a bullpen guy and spot starter, not a rotation man. The point I am making is that you can't make long term decisions based on one or two weeks of games.
  10. I remember August of 1987 when Neil Allen faced the Brewers and gave up six runs in the 1st inning and didn't get anyone out. He was released the next day. I saw that game at old Comiskey and also saw this guy named Kenny Williams hit a home run for the Sox. But Chisox lost 7-4.
  11. I felt that Paul Konerko was our MVP followed by Mark Buerhle and then Bobby Jenks. Sometimes you gauge your MVP by leadership and not just numbers.
  12. Welcome, but keep your Cousin off
  13. Thank you! Nice game and nice win. We did show that with some luck we could have taken all three from the Tribe.
  14. Forget abouta it!! I see now that we follow the old script. Runners in scoring position with less than 2 outs. We get a strike out followed by the fly ball and no runs scored.
  15. Game day is stuck again at Sox with bases loaded and Thome at bat. What happened?
  16. We need a big lead going into the 9th. You get to the point anymore you dread the close ones in the last inning for fear the pen is going to blow it.
  17. Gameday is stuck. I see that matt Thornton relieved Matt Thornton (how can that happen?) and it's stuck. What happened?
  18. Uribe must be too hard headed to instruct. He swings at everything and I believe Walker and Ozzie said he needed to be more patient. It didn't sink in obviously.
  19. Our goose was cooked early as far as the pen is concerned, but troubles were exasperated by a slumping offense, etc, etc. It's a team thing and difficult to correct other than through internal moves. It was and still might be a little to early to expect trades to help this club rebound. I don't want to give up, but every night it's like the pen especially finds a new way to lose and a new scapegoat.
  20. I don't have a clue what you guys did other than a great job! You fellows at the managemetn end of Soxtalk.com are fantastic folks. Thanks for your hard work to update the site. I really enjoy posting and reading others.
  21. I look forard to seeing what Wasserman has to offer the bullpen. Anything has to be better than what we have seen right?
  22. I thought the Sox have mentioned him as a possible callup, but we have never seen him up yet that I can remember. When your bullpen puts up an ERA of close to 8 over two months it makes you wonder why we aren't looking at some of our supposed talent in the minors. What is Carlos V's numbers right now?
  23. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 01:00 AM) Andrew Sisco gave up 8 runs on 9 hits in 0.1 IP during his start tonite. He will fit in nicely in the bullpen
