Floyd will stay and Day might not get activated right away as he may need some rehab time at Charlotte. In the meantimne a starter, most likely Contreras gets traded and we will see what develops from there. Floyd probably gets his spot. The Richar kid might get a call up too to replace someone else. You never know.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 04:02 AM) Que? Even if Fields only becomes an average defender at third, moving him to LF significantly decreases his value. His bat projects to be above average for a third baseman, but if you put him in LF, he's more of an average player. Fields future is an everyday LF'er and sub for Crede. Joe needs to be resigned.

We might see Floyd pitching in the DH on Friday vrs the Twinkies. I hope so rather than try and stretch out Massett again. I'd like to see what Gavin might have to contribute

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 02:50 AM) I just want him gone... DFA him for all I care. No team is going to sign him next year if we offer him Arbitration. I know this is from frustration, but I am glad your are not the GM or we could be in for a real long look at the cellar.

QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 10:08 PM) Buster Olney was just on ESPN and said he talked with MB's agent a few hours ago, and said Mark is giving the Whitesox a huge hometown discount at 4/56, and that he wants a full no trade clause period. He said basically right now it's a staredown to who blinks first. I think this may drag out the rest of the month. Will it be the same if Soxtalk fans gived Mark a NTC?

You would like to think that if we can't possibly make up 12.5 games this season that at least the players want to make the best run of it they can. There will be changes, but let's hope the right ones are made and we don't destroy the nucleus of a winning club for 2008.

Steve Phillips on BBTN said this evening that KW thinks they can work out a deal with Buerhle. Contreras seems likely to be traded.

We need more than just one more good dependable arm in the pen. Buvvich and Aardsma are both in over their heads, but others are right when they ask who will replace them in the bullpen?

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 03:13 AM) This just in: Ken Williams gives Ryan Bukvich extention with a NTC Funny about this guy. He was absolutely horrible at first when brought up and then gets better. He was so much better in fact that I believe it was just yesterday when Ozzie said Bukvich was so ggod he was now the set up man rather than McDougal. He then goes out and blows it as well as Jenks letting it go for the third or 4th time this year. I don't want to criticize Jenks so much as wonder where his control and speed went. Without the high end fast ball to set up the rest of his pitches he is bound to get smacked around at inopurtune times.

I was watching ESPN and we were winning and then all of sudden it's another blown game by the bullpen. This is worse than 1977 I think. What the heck is wrong with this group? I am just plain lost.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 06:04 PM) I'm so sick of seeing Andy Gonzalez in CF. He's now 2-20 w/ HR over his last 5 games since that fluky 4-5 performance in the first game of the D-Rays series. He went 3 for 4 today with a double and a CS. Hard to figure this kid out. He can be absolutely lost looking on his at bats and then have games where he gets 3 or 4 hits. I thought he was an infielder though. He plays about all the time in the OF, which has been a problem the Sox have had before-using people out of position. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 09:42 PM) 5 of 6....... this is what it looks like when a bullpen holds a lead! wow mikey likes it.... like he likes pussy.... alot Uncalled for. Certainly mikey may like it, but we don't need to know about it n the context you wrote it

A key comment I picked up from Kenny Williams is "I can't build a championship team if I give Mark Buerhle a no trade contract." Well, I don't think you build a championship team by trading your best pitcher and team leader either. I think you build a winning team by starting with quality pitching. Buerhle is 28 years old and has been a durable work horse of a pitcher and is a winner. If you try and lump every player and their contract into what manahement thinks is necessary to not show favortism and also keep their finger on the I am the Boss button then they are bound for failure. MB deserves a NTC and the Sox fans deserve it and the team deserves it and understands it IMO. We need to keep our excellent starting pitching in place and buyild in the areas that need to be upgraded. Let Mark go and you weaken one area and maybe strengthen another-MAYBE. The track record is not that good. I hope this works out for the Sox, Buerhle and the fans.

Yankees Interested in Konerko?

Paulie ain't goin nowhere. Dye maybe to the Yanks, but not PK. -
I was ready to send Danks to Charlotte, but he really made me rethink that opinion. Great game by the rookie. Buerhle needs to stay with the Sox and I ain't ready to give up anything yet.

Step back everyone and let's hope this news is simply rumor. We don't know till we know. I agree with the need to sign Mark to a deal. We still have a very good nucleus for a winning ball club. Starting pitching is our strength and overall they are young, but have experience. You don't decimate your pitching staff and team leadership for a bunch of unknows. Look at what we have now in trades for young players expected to step up a deliver. Not much. I can see some trades being made, but not Buerhle, Garland & Vazquez. I don't put Danks in there simply because of his youth and I don't yet consider him to be major league ready or even a trade idea/option anyway. Contreras might go as well as some undeachieving relief pitchers and a FA to be outfielder. KW is running the risk of keeping this team at the bottom of the pack for quite awhile. if we lose our starting pitching for the sake of some wild rebuilding idea, which I don't think is really needed.

I'll be listening on XM. My guess is a 4-2 win for the Sox based on what Javier has been showing as of late. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 07:35 PM) Would Gavin Floyd versus Jon Garland comparisons be fair here? It took Jon a while to really get "it". One of the knocks against Jon was his mental make up and his propensity for the big inning early on. Stuff was never a question with Garland, just whether or not he had the stones to be a big time pitcher. Thoughts? You must be patient with young talent that's for sure. Jon always had the ability he just needed to be able to put it togtehr. Floyd and othrs most likely will be fitting in that category as well. I can see Floyd in the rotation this year even if Contreras or Vazquez get traded, but I am thinking more along the lines that he will replace Jose.

I don't like it at all when deadlines are given. It doesn't help things.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) As of now Fields is an average 3b imo. He's perfectly capable of making the routine plays but he doesn't have a ton of range at this point. That could improve but he's never going to be Joe there(most people aren't). I really doubt that he's in left next year, Crede will be elsewhere by the start of next season imo. Baseball folks know the Joe Crede is the superior defender at 3B. I still think Crede could be kept by the Sox and Fields put in LF. That was mentioned by the team before meaning KW and Ozzie. All options for this team are still open until people start getting traded. The talk now for instance is that Buerhle's status may have changed and he could be re-signed by the Sox. I hope so and I also hope Crede is extended. You build your team around strengths you have and defense and pitching are right there. Buerhle is one of the best and so is Joe. I can see some of our guys going as sad as it will be to see, but those two need to stay in my opinion.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 04:35 AM) Who would you keep? Contract stuff and free agency aside, if you had to choose between the two, who would you pick? Both

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 02:11 AM) He just grounded out, and now he's 0-4. I guess he forgot to read the game notes, or they don't translate to Japanese very well
