Sox pen has thrown scoreless relief in a game 3 times since may 18
elrockinMT replied to whitesox94's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How many relief guys have we tried this year already? The guys brought up to replace McDougal and Aardsma suck too. The only one that is pitching somewhat good is Day. I am surprised about that considering he was a AA pitcher. Bukvich and Prinz have major league experience and suck big time. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) Now I'm concerned about the velocity for Jenks. His pitch speed was way down today. He shouldn't be sitting in the 91-92 mph range. Also....what is the point of having Gonzalez on the bench? He might be the most useless roster member we've ever had. This is exactly the observation we made earlier in the season. He has dropped 7 to 10 MPH off the fastball. He should be striking people out a lot.

You have to think Owens basically was rated as better than BA in the system and better than Sweeny since Owens was the one brought up when Pods was hurt. I guess we should keep an open mind, but how many of our great prospects have done anything to contribute at the big league level?

Not many posters on the game thread anymore. I was driving and listening to XM and almost wanted to throw the radio out the window, but I am too cheap.

Where KW is going with this team

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 03:11 AM) And we need to buy new radar guns. How inaccurate must our guns have been to state that Masset can throw 96 mph and Danks can throw 90 mph? May I add that we should look for pitchers who can get people out, hitters that can actually hit the ball and fielders that can catch the ball as well as someone who doesn't take a week to run from first base to second or third. -
I watched on WGN and about choked on the inability to generage offense again and the inevitable bullpen fiasco. These guys we brought up to repalce those that went down haven't had a game yet have they where they didn't give up at least one run! So many hits and lost batters when they get two strikes on them too. Just unbelievably bad.
-
Did I get picked up yet? I am waiting by the phone
-
I will be watching on WGN. Hope the weather is good in Chitown QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 09:56 PM) Fields hitting third tonight? I am assuming Fields gets a lot of playing time, but third? I don't think so. Maybe third up from the bottom.

Three call ups for the pitching staff and none have been very successful. However, the two called up after Day have major league experience so we aren't dealing with true rookies. Offense doesn't do anything but offend and our pitching hasn't come through at all lately. Other than Garland's great effort in wiining Monday and Buerhle 2 hit-2 homer loss last week we ain't got nothing to be real happy about.

Joe Crede to 15 day DL, Josh Fields called up from AAA.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 06:08 PM) *Sigh* Thome Podsednik Crede Erstad Hall Ozuna All DL time. I hear you. A healthy club is a winning club -
Podsednik to start minor league rehab assignment tomorrow
elrockinMT replied to BearSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am looking forward to Pods return. Problem is when we get one back we lose another. I am expecting Crede to go on the DL soon. I reckon we will have Fields up then. -
QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 06:08 PM) And some of them have nearly 5,000. And others of them can actually count. NOT!

Mike Lowell for Third Base next year?
elrockinMT replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 03:54 AM) I agree, but I don't think either Fields or Crede is the answer. They both suck. No they don't -
If you mean that we still can compete then yes I agree. Lots of things didn't happen the way we thought they would and that's why I don't put a lot of faith in predictions and so called experts like we see on ESPN and in baseball magazines.

QUOTE(barnes @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 02:47 AM) Maybe he meant that with a 6-1 lead, it wouldn't have been a save situation-- where after Jenks came in to clean up Thornton's mess, it was a save situation? Three run lead or less for a save plus the tying runs on base or at bat make it the save QUOTE(SoxPride56 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) Matt DeSalvo (1-2, 5.40 ERA; 0-1, 3.1 IP, 4 ER VS. White Sox in 2007) vs. Jon Garland (3-3, 3.91 ERA; 1-0, 7IP, 1 ER VS. Yankees) I figured it is my turn to try and turn this team around, as this is my first game thread of the year. Hopefully I bring some luck to the team!!! Good job!
-
The panic was starting to set in when Thornton walked that first hitter and then gave up the hit. For crying out loud what is the matter with these relief guys. Jon Garland was awesome though. The offense was better and if hitting is contagious maybe we will start seeing a turnaround.

With the Rocket not pitching it will give the ESPN announcers more opportunity to talk about how bad both the Sox and Yankees have been this year. Maybe their great insight will tell us something...

FROM WWW.Chisox.Com CHICAGO -- Following yesterday's game at Toronto, the Chicago White Sox optioned right-handed pitcher David Aardsma to Class AAA Charlotte. Prior to tonight's game vs. the New York Yankees, the White Sox optioned pitcher Mike MacDougal to Charlotte, purchased the contracts pitchers Ryan Bukvich and Bret Prinz from Charlotte and transferred infielder/outfielder Pablo Ozuna from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list. Aardsma, 25, has gone 2-1 with a 6.18 ERA (19 ER/27.2 IP) and 32 strikeouts in 22 relief appearances this season, his first with the White Sox. After going 2-0 with a 1.72 ERA (3 ER/15.2 IP) and 23 strikeouts in April, he went 0-1 with a 12.00 ERA (16 ER/12.0 IP) and nine strikeouts in 11 games combined in May and June. MacDougal, 30, is 1-3 with a 7.13 ERA (14 ER/17.2 IP) and 18 walks in 27 relief appearances this season. He allowed 22 hits and 17 walks with 11 holds. MacDougal compiled a 2.89 ERA (3 ER/9.1 IP) in April but gave up 11 earned runs over 8.1 IP in May and June (11.89 ERA). Bukvich, 29, was 1-3 with nine saves, a 2.89 ERA (9 ER/28.0 IP), and 32 strikeouts in 23 appearances with Charlotte. A native of Naperville, Ill., the 6-foot-2, 250 pound Bukvich has pitched in 48 major-league games with Kansas City (2002-04) and Texas (2005), going 2-0 with a 6.94 ERA (36 ER/46.2 IP) and 39 strikeouts. Prinz, who turns 30 on June 15, went 0-1 with a 0.56 ERA (1 ER/16.0 IP) and 16 strikeouts in 15 outings with the Knights. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound native of Chicago Heights, Ill. limited opponents to a .179 (10-56) average. Prinz has appeared in 98 major-league games over five seasons with Arizona (2001-03), the Yankees (2003-04) and Dodgers (2005), going 5-4 with nine saves and a 4.77 ERA (47 ER/88.2 IP). His best season came as a rookie in 2001 when he was 4-1 with a 2.63 ERA (12 ER/41.0 IP) and ranked second on the team with nine saves as the Diamondbacks won the World Series. Ozuna was placed on the disabled list on May 28 with a fractured right fibula and torn deltoid ligament. With the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster is at 40.

All I can say is I am glad that we Soxtalk posters aren't the GM. There will be changes starting tday and they are needed in the relief corp, but then all of sudden half our team is gone to second division also rans for players with their own problems. I have listened to some interest in Chicago Sun-Times reports of Dye for Abreu and then McDougal or Logan or Thornton (plus a minor league player) for Rowand. You trade from your supposed strengths to fill perceived needs. But, who wants McDougal with an era over 7? Plus if e is hurt maybe time in the minors or on the DL might be better and we keep talent.
-
I think we will win tomorrow as I watch ESPN HD, Remember Clemens must have known something about the Sox getting ready to bust out cause he chickened out of Monday's game.
-
I have heard that 90% of this game is half mental. Anyway good observation and welcome to Soxtalk!
-
I might agree for a lot of reasons why certain pic thers need to be sent down, but don't include such reghulars as Crede. If you start throwing his name in the ring as possible demotions then you need to include other regulars like Konerko and Dye and Uribe and Iguchi just to name about 7 or 8 of our starters that haven't produced either. I think where the improvement needs to be seen is the bullpen. An ERA of over 10 in the last 17-18 games is horrid.
-
I heard the call on XM from the Toronto announcers that Konerko fell down headed to 1B and my thought was can anything get worse now? Embarrasing for PK, but flat on your face is how the whole Sox team is right now.
-
I am going to tune in on XM satellite. Check back later hopefully with a winner

Changes are coming, but I think they will be pitching
