Whats our record with Sweeney starting
elrockinMT replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I was impressed with the rookies approach at the plate, The swing looked good and he also was patient. It would be great if Brioan Anderson came around like this too. They could be playing in the Sox OF together in a year or two -
if I had told you the team batting avg through today

Team batting average is the lowest in MLB. It is simply unbelievable to me -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 9, 2007 -> 02:46 PM) What have you seen in the last 100 regular season games that makes you think that would happen? There is a history there and we have the talent. Capable is certainly the right word to use. -
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 9, 2007 -> 03:33 AM) I am praying that someone asks Ozzie why he didn't walk Morneau to get to Cirillo for the more ideal Righty vs. Righty match up. The terrible managing in this loss bothers me a lot more than Iguchi's performance and the bullpen tonight. He always said he manages from his "gut." It was really grumbling and groaning last night apparently. Bottom line is the players didn't perform again.

The loss last night was humiliating. I listen to as many Sox games as possible on XM satelitte radio, but the down side of that is when they are on the road you have to listen to the other teams announcers. I have always hated the Twins and last night their radio folks just reinforced my feelings. They were laughing at the Sox and made comments about Perzynski and Crede being cry babies and the such. Total BS. We need to play better. The bullpen was supposed to be our strength.

Thome and Hall will help and so will a hot streak. The Sox are very capable of reeling off a ten game winning streak and be on top. I just think it's too early to panic. Be mad at how the team is playing for sure, but don't buy into the gloom and doom stuff. -
QUOTE(TheOcho @ May 9, 2007 -> 12:20 AM) Back in Chicago with his mother, he's with the team today. Thanks! Kind of tough putting your best team on the field with 3 regulars gone

I missed where Uribe has been. I assume it was not an injury but personal?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 7, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) My theory: BA couldnt hit at the big league level with his new swing so they sent him down to get more at bats. I was going to post my theory, but it's the same as your theory so I'll ditto this. Plus I like your avatar

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 6, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) Yeah because of a broken bat single, and a walk. When bobby can hit > 95 he is hard to beat with his secondary pitches. The line drive kid comes through. To me that kid plays in LF until he proves he cant. Give him a chance. Good thing he is one of Ozzies favorites. he should get lots of playing time. I listened to the game on XM up to the 8th inning and was mad at the 3-0 score and had to leave. I was going to take the receiver with me and listen in the car, but didn't. I am now ticked off I missed the heroics. I did have a question on Jenks too, but all you see is the box score. A hit and a walk allowed, but three K's. If he gave up a broken bat hit then maybe in the overall scheme of things he is improving. You have to like the 3 K's.

QUOTE(shipps @ May 7, 2007 -> 02:02 AM) I really dont think Crede alone would be enough for Lowry.Young pitching costs a whole lot and the Giants would be stupid to trade him for a position player alone. You would see a couple of our young arms in that deal also, would that deal be worth it? I think you may have gotten that backwards. I think it should read: "Lowry alone isn't enough for Crede." We don't need some so so pitcher for a gold glove 30 homer 3bman. We need to resign Crede and look at Josh Fields as a LF'er and sub 3rdbman

QUOTE(briguy27 @ May 6, 2007 -> 12:22 AM) i'd like to be happy but 1. they did commit 4 errors. lets see if we can do it tomorrow with clean baseball 2. the bulls are down 13 at half Look at it ths way: When the opponent makes errors a winning ballclub takes advantage of it. We didn't GIDP, K or pop up with runners in scoring position of lay down and just give them the final out. The breaks make the difference.

QUOTE(The Critic @ May 5, 2007 -> 11:22 PM) The Sox are not an average team. ....none of the players are hitting for average.... An astute observation for sure

White Sox vs. Angels, 5/5/07 (W)
elrockinMT replied to southsideirish71's topic in 2007 Season in Review
Hello Soxtalk fans. Just checking in while I listen to XM radio -
The Sox have a very good talented team that is in a slump right now. It has happened before. We have a couple key players injured and role players being put in aposition of everyday players. You can point to the Yankess also as a team going through what the Sox are, but I think the difference is the Sox pitching is so much better. We will be back on track when the team is healthy. Right now it seems that everything that can go wrong will go wrong for this team. We can't panic.
-
Sweeney didn't look good flailing away on some of Escobar's picthes, but I only saw the game last night from the 5th inning on. But, that was too much to take also. I think we just want to get this slump over with so bad that anyone and everyone looks bad. The kid has a good future, but I think Brian Anderson does too. Hopefully it's sooner rather than later.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2007 -> 04:44 PM) I agree with #1 and #5, but #3 is total bulls***. Something doesn't seem right about that -
Anyone else currently regreting letting Ross Gload go?
elrockinMT replied to Chisoxrd5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ross Gload would have always been a reserve/bench player for the Sox. I am glad that he is having a chance in KC to play full time, but they are in last place. Not that we might not be in a week or so hitting like this, but right now it's KC. -
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 2, 2007 -> 11:55 PM) Who's to say we couldn't play better with Josh Fields at 3B and ??? player in RF? Seriously, many Sox fans thought we were committing suicide by replacing Garcia and McCarthy with Danks, and that's turned out to be the best move, hasn't it? We need an injection of youth, speed, enthusiasm, excitement....something. If we ARE able to keep Buehrle, we then have four starters in the vicinity of $45-50 million....and then Danks. We can't keep Crede and Dye AND Buehrle. The math's impossible for this franchise. And it makes no sense to keep Crede when we have a farm system that has produced a replacement in Fields. As some of the BA backers have mentioned, BA and Sweeney and Fields HAVE to succeed for this franchise to be a viable, competitive member of the AL Central in 2008-2010. We can't afford free agents for those three positions AND Thome/Konerko add another $22-23 million per year. Right there, the four pitchers and Thome/Konerko would equal our entire payroll for the 2005 championship team. And you still have to figure out what to do with Iguchi and Uribe... If the franchise wants to win they have to pay. These folks are our best option to do that. I can see Pods moving somewhere else next year and Fields taking over in LF. QUOTE(joeynach @ May 3, 2007 -> 06:14 PM) Exactly the point is you cant afford to sit around and wait for things to get better. You cant sit here and wait for Thome and Pods to come back and give them a couple weeks to get back in a rhythm and just hope everything will be ok. Heck by the time that happens, if it happens, this team might be 12 games out. If you want survive at least for this year you need to do something now. The Mack/Ozuna/Cintron/Terrero circus isn't an answer its not going to prevent us from dipping below .500. The only thing you can do is add some life to the lineup, new talented excited life. Bring up Fields and Owens, and along with Sweeney get these guys moving. Then get Pods and Thome back and hit the ground running in a lineup that is already kicking. If you just try and survive and wait until Pods and Thome get back most likely it will just be too late, it always works out that way. Yes you can wait. The season is early and by making drastic changes now it might really mess up things for later in the season. I think any talk now of trades, etc, is a knee jerk reaction

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ May 2, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) BTW I just noticed that it is one month to the day since opening day. Do you mean there is more time left in the season?
-
Mr Caulfield is taking a very extreme negative view of this teams chances after just 24 games or so. I respectfully disagree with him also. I think the Sox should be trying to sign Crede, Dye and Buerhle now and not at the end of the year or never whatever the case may be. Thome and Pods will be back soon enoigh and hopefully Hall. The hitters will hit again and things will be better. Right now it's frustarting for sure though.

I don't see Danks out yet? Low pitch count I see, but this gives him a chance to give up another homer while we pop up to our hearts content. -

elrockinMT replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in 2007 Season in Review
I just got on MLB game day. Two SOLO homers are the Sox offense. Danks does a great job, but he has given up another homer, which with our pathetic offense doesn't help matters. At least most of the runs Danks has given up in his starts are from solo homers. I agree that our offense has been sputtering too long. It seems all we get is pop ups and GIDP's along with a generous helping of K's.
