Jay has a larger cap hit than all of the best QBs in the league this year. Next year his cap is $1.5M less than Aaron Rodgers. That means he has to be absolutely fabulous or the team has to be lucky and get production for less-than-market-value from other positions. We're getting less than what we paid for from Jay, evidenced by the fact that every team with a better QB is taking a smaller cap hit

PFF stuff... Bears Best O performers yesterday: Brandon Marshall (+2 overall, +1 screen blocking) Alshon Jeffery (+1.4 overall, +1.8 pass) Martellus Bennett (+1 overall, +1 screen blocking) Worst O: Matt Slauson (-2.3 overall, -3.3 pass blocking) Jay Cutler (-2.3 overall, -3.1 pass) Ka'Deem Carey (-1.3 overall, -0.8 pass block) Best D: Ego Ferguson (+2.3 overall, +1.2 pass rush) LaMarr Houston (+1.6 overall, +1.2 run defense) Willie Young (+0.9 overall, +0.8 run defense) Worst D: Jared Allen (-1.7 overall, -1.4 run defense) Kyle Fuller (-1.3 overall, -1.5 pass coverage) Jon Bostic (-1.2 overall, -0.8 run defense) **32 snaps Shrugging my shoulders on the Fuller one. PI in the end zone cost him obviously, but they only have CAR 4/10 for 60 yards against him. Must have dinged him for stuff that doesn't show on the stat sheet. Jennings had a much worse day it would seem and fared better grade-wise (5/8, 114 yards against) Season nos. for Bears... Top O: De La Puente (+8.7 overall, +6.8 run block) Martellus Bennett (+8.1 overall, +4.5 pass) Bushrod (+5.5 overall, +3.6 run block) Ola (+3.7 overall, +3.4 pass block) Kyle Long (+2.1 overall, +3.7 pass block) Others of note: Marshall is +2, but only based on strength of blocking grades. Alshon would be in the top 5 if not for multiple penalties. Worst O: Jordan Mills (-5.8 overall, -4.1 pass block) Jay Cutler (-4.5 overall, -7.1 pass) Santonio Holmes (-2.9 overall, -2.7 pass) Top D: Jay Ratliff (+5.3 overall, +3.7 run defense) Willie Young (+2.6 overall, +4.1 run defense) Kyle Fuller (+2.6 overall, +2.1 pass coverage) Briggs (+2.0 overall, +3.5 run defense) LaMarr Houston (+1.5 overall, +1.3 pass rush) Worst D: DJ Williams (-5.8 overall, -2.6 pass coverage) Will Sutton (-3.7 overall, -4.2 pass rush) Chris Conte (-3.2 overall, -1.8 run defense) Isaiah Frey (-2.8 overall, -3.4 pass coverage) Jared Allen (-1.6 overall, -3.1 pass rush)

Bears threw 35 passes yesterday. Only 10 landed more than 10 yards beyond the LOS. Only one of those was beyond 20.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 04:43 PM) IDK if anyone noticed, but pretty much all of Cutler's throws down the field were absolute crap today. Very inaccurate. We dink and dunked the Panthers the entire first half and that worked. They figured out that's all we're going to run in the second half and shut our offense down. Early on, it seemed like we were just responding to the blitz but we continued to dink and dunk even with the pressure off. That pass to Holmes on the last drive looked like it had to hurt coming out like that

All I'm going to say is I'd rather be running some mixture of journeymen/Orton/rookies out there for essentially no cost and miss the playoffs than pay Cutler more than Aaron Rodgers and miss the playoffs. We took the big bet on a non-horrible QB and it didn't work. Move on.

Mike Shannahan Rick Dennison Ron Turner Mike Martz Mike Tice Lovie Smith Jerry Angelo Marc Trestman? Aaron Kromer? How long before we consider firing the QB?

The defense was easily the strongest part of the team today. I have no clue how you could watch this game and walk away saying the defense blew it. The offense would have scored ~13 points if not for the defense giving them field position and the defense gave up 2 TD that weren't clearly the product of turnovers by the offense.

I'm a pretty big fan of Trestman but we have had an extremely conservative offense yet we still make all the mistakes associated with a high risk one

Your move, offense. They ought to run the clock all the way out with the way we've been calling plays.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 5, 2014 -> 03:45 PM) That's a play you see a guy like Rodgers make. There wasn't much time...but there was enough. They slowed the blitz down noticeably but Jay just watched it

I refuse to believe there was nobody to throw to there

Why would you throw the two yard route on third and ten with no pressure?

Great play call by Tucker. Big stop for the D. Need more points now

Our defense is fine. They've given up two touchdowns and have three takeaways.

The jury's out on how good this D is, but it is most certainly not last year's defense.

I would like to look at the INT play and see if/where there was an uncovered receiver
