My KGJ baseball was played so much that the sticker on the front is half melted off. Same for my Super Mario 64. Seriously, Super Mario 64 is one of the best games ever made. It would be difficult to make substantial improvements on the gameplay even today.

Honestly, I won't blame him if he really breaks down. This is unbelievably awful. Yeah, yeah, we know he gets plenty of money and it's part of the reason he will eventually be fine. But he has invested a tremendous portion of his emotional livelihood in basketball. When he thinks about himself, he thinks "I am Derrick Rose the basketball player." Everyone he knows, even his family, thinks about him in this way. Success in basketball and success in life are synonymous for him. That has been taken away. The rehab for the ACL injury took a ton out of him. The length of time away from the game, the time it took, the fear of failure, the criticism coming at him...those all took their toll. To look ahead at all of the same but even more is probably overwhelming. Luckily (I guess), he has a long time to get over it.

If it's a torn ACL, then I'll be thinking something I don't think I ever would have: it's too bad we can't amnesty him

There is somebody who knows. The trainer on site is the best diagnostic tool for the ACL. They can manipulate the knee in such a way that there is little doubt. In my experience, trainers miss the diagnosis less often than MRI (swelling is often a confounding factor in both cases, but moreso with MRI since trainers can examine the player before the swelling sets in)

I'm trying to think back to the original injury. This might hurt worse. Last time, we saw a promising season go down the drain. Right now, I fear that I see a promising career go down, and the foreseeable future of the franchise along with it. Maybe we'll get good news, but I have a bad feeling.

With that said, there is little reason to think this franchise will be a contender in the future if Derrick goes down. You're pretty much just gonna be waiting for his contract to expire if this is another ACL at which point you can start really building again

Here's a question for the TV experts around here. My dad got himself a TV for Christmas last year...I don't remember all the details short of it being a Vizio 46" LCD/LED Smart TV. Anyway, he's gotten very frustrated with one particular thing is does. When changing channels and the picture format of the new channel is different from the former (usually switching between 720p and 1080i), the lag time before it renders a picture is quite long. I'm not sure what causes this -- they're looking for another TV for a different room and their only strategy so far is to avoid Vizio, which may or may not be the thing to do. I have no idea how to advise them to look for a TV that is less likely to be slow like that when changing channels.

That offense in Detroit has been progressively getting weaker. Steamer projections for current Tigers: Austin Jackson - 112 wRC+ Torii Hunter - 106 wRC+ Cabrera - 170 wRC+ VMart - 117 wRC+ Avila - 108 wRC+ (up from 92 last year -- I'm dubious) Kinsler - 110 wRC+, best since 2011 Iglesias - 76 wRC+ Castellanos? - 94 wRC+ Andy Dirks? - 100 wRC+ (up from 89 last season) It's good, but there are a lot of scenarios you can imagine where they are quite a bit worse than projections. Taking Fielder out of that lineup really hurts them for this season as he was the only other truly scary bat -- his BAD season was a 125 wRC+, his career is 140. Now you're looking at a lineup full of guys who are a slight regression away from being at or below league average hitters. You're also relying on Torii Hunter not aging, Avila rallying back, Kinsler stepping up, and unknowns like Castellanos putting up numbers (they might have someone else in mind, I'm not sure) and Andy Dirks being a good player. There are going to be some real holes in that batting order in all likelihood. Take Miggy out of the middle with injury or something and it is nothing remarkable. That pitching will really have to stay good. Having lots of league average hitters is no sin and is really the hallmark of a great offense - but a guy like Iglesias is likely to be a horrible hitter, Castellanos could be that bad, Dirks might be that bad if he has to play every day, Avila might be that bad already, etc.

If anyone wants to understand the difference between Google and Apple, this is it. Apple is an electronics company. They make profit on the phones, tablets, computers they sell. Google is a services company - they are willing to break even or worse on things like the Nexus devices just to ensure that you use their services. There are going to be differences for the end user based on these things, of course, with pros and cons for each. Y2HH often talks about the Apple ecosystem, which is one of the pros of sticking with Apple across platforms. Google wants to make the Google "ecosystem" the default, where Apple will always make theirs more exclusive so that they can have more control of the development of their services

There was very little optimism about rookie Jimmy. He ended up looking okay in the playoffs when half the team was dead, but even then he looked pretty inept on the offensive end. I'm pretty sure scs787 was the only guy on the Jimmy bandwagon post-rookie season after seeing him play in summer league

Milton Friedman has long advocated a UBI and his implementation alleviates many of the concerns had here while also saving the government money. http://www.city-journal.org/2011/21_1_income-tax.html The above link explains it pretty well. The NIT/UBI replaces a good deal of the welfare spending; the main thing you need to keep is healthcare provisions, since they'll spend their entire income on that otherwise. Basically, the government covers the gap between your income and a minimum threshold of income. In the example given in the article, if that number is $10,000, you get $5,000 if you earn nothing. It covers 50% of the gap. So if you start to earn $2,000/year, now you get $4,000 in NIT. If you earn $5,000, you earn $2,500 in NIT. This gives you incentive to earn more (of course, most proponents suggest a much higher income threshold, but the math is easier here). There is no "welfare trap" or "poverty trap" because there is no moment where you suddenly earn too much to benefit from the program. Being progressive is meant to preserve a financial incentive to work at every stage of the game. While there is a great deal of talk about bureaucracy here, libertarians like this for the very reason of bureaucracy -- if you all you're doing is sending out money, the bureaucratic costs are minimal. From an economist standpoint, there is no more efficient benefit than money, as well.

Our team would be appreciably better if Freese was the everyday 3B. I don't know that the trade price would be worth that gain, but he's a nice player.

Sometimes I forget how good Grant Hill was. In 1996-97, he averaged 21.4 points (on .496 shooting), 9 boards, 7.3 assists on a playoff team. That's a good ass season

Remember when Shaq shattered that backboard and pulled the entire hoop down? I feel like that's going to happen on one of Derrick's pull-up jumpers
