  1. Just heard him called "Michael Williams-Carter" on ESPN close enough!
  2. I appreciate it everyone!
  3. I'm much less interesting, but I had a similar experience on a smaller scale playing college ball. I was falling in love with my studies and other new interests while injuries and a massive time commitment was making me resent playing the game I love. It was hard to go through. I eventually quit; in hindsight, my injuries were worse than I originally knew but I know that some of my teammates probably would have tried to come back or pull off a position change (I was converted to pitcher-only as a freshman when it was clear I was more advanced on the hill than at the plate). I realized that I could still love baseball and have it play a pretty huge role in my life and identity without playing it. It had never really occurred to me until then how much White Sox baseball was an important thing that brings my dad and I together. I'm glad I've been able to appreciate that instead of coming to that realization too late.
  4. Watched my WS DVD last night. It's interesting how, after well over 120 days of inactivity, Frank still called the World Series the best moment of his life. Maybe I'm just selfish or something, but it's somewhat hard for me to comprehend. I have to think there was some bittersweetness to it. In hindsight, I even feel some of that. Weird that the best player in our franchise history, who was on this team, had a fairly minor contribution to our only WS since 1917
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 31, 2013 -> 07:47 AM) I do hope you know I was playing contrarian regarding Thome and TWTW. People had the same thoughts about Thome during his time here as they do about Dunn now. I absolutely loved when Thome was here. It's too early for me to be reading sarcasm!!! Serious question I've been thinking about: can we, in good conscience, consider the Big Hurt a WS winner?
  6. Big Jim in high, medium, and low leverage situations had negligibly different production numbers. 117 wRC+ in high leverage is pretty damn impressive considering how much more likely he was to see a LHP in those situations. In all postseason games before turning 37, Jim posted an .842 OPS over 55 games with 17 dingers. His overall postseason numbers are heavily skewed by bad performances at ages 37, 40, and 42. At age 42, he went 0 for 16. I won't hold it against him that he stayed in the game a little too long.
  7. http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/spor...l.html?mobify=0 Definitely give this a read. Not some crazy, reality-shaking content, but an interesting reflection on what it's like to be a pro ballplayer.
  8. I like to give guys the benefit of the doubt, but I think the chances of Papi being on the latest and greatest substance outweigh the chances that he's clean right now
  9. Howard and Asik have 37 of Houston's 50 boards
  10. Yikes. She'd be f***ed if she ever wanted to see a doctor or actually got sick. I take a medicine that is $400/month without insurance; I'd never get by on something like that.

Bienvenido, Cubano. Quedate el jersey de Abreu hasta se vuelve un estrella. Nos faltan tus opiniones y tu conocimiento aqui. Espero que tu empieza escribir de nuevo.
  12. I bet the Cards will be looking to dump Freese. I'd grab him if the price isn't high
  13. f***ing Larry Sanders, how do you get 5 fouls before the halfway mark of the third quarter
  14. f***. The. Cardinals. and their Mickey Mouse games
  15. I hope people begin to see that healthcare should be universally available, which would make a single payer system the main alternative for reform. My main fear about single payer is that we'll entrust it to the state governments like Canada has, which would be a grave mistake. No Republican governor would ever run something with so much cost in a way that doesn't screw poor people while the Rs that don't intentionally screw the poor along with the Ds will mismanage it to hell anyway. It needs federal oversight and, more importantly, uniform policies, protections, and services
  16. Speaking of HTC, a man was shot in the chest while his HTC Evo in his breastfeeding pocket. It stopped the bullet; the man didn't realize for a second that he'd been hit. HTC heard about it and sent him a One and some other goodies. No link as I am on mobile. EDIT: and by breastfeeding pocket, I mean breast. Autocorrected...
  17. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 04:41 PM) I know no one cares about my fantasy team but oh well...How does this look... Rubio K. Thompson Conley Lebron Favors Faried Monroe McGee Oladipo Afflalo Bench-Granger, MKG, Kaman. I feel like I did really well but I don't follow basketball as much as I should....Is there any category I should target? My feeling from eyeballing that is that you'll need some help with big man stats like boards, FG%, blocks, turnovers.
  18. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 05:09 PM) Only move that is questionable in Hahn's short tenure as GM is the contract to Keppinger Agreed, and that can change. Even if not, 4 million is hardly an albatross.
  19. Viciedo is 5 years younger than ADA, has much more upside, more team control, and is an absolute rocket scientist compared to ADA. While I'm not going to non-tender De Aza, if I have to give someone the short end of the stick it will be him. We want a long term winner? Give Viciedo as many chances to be a franchise cornerstone as possible. De Aza is so close to his expiration date that the biggest benefit he offers is depth or perhaps the return we get in trade.
  20. QUOTE (almagest @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 01:58 PM) Even Lawrie's worst season (this year), is better than every Beckham season except 2009. Also, is younger, and has two fewer seasons in MLB. Yes. Lawrie and Beckham are very different. The "bad" Lawrie post-rookie year is better than the best of post-rookie Beckham and is much younger at a position we have nobody at. If the Jays agreed to flip them straight up, I'd get it done before AA came down from his high. If Santiago and Beckham can get Stroman and/or Sanchez thrown in, I'd give Hahn a lifetime contract. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 01:58 PM) If you're sending over Danks, you're most likely picking up a lot of his contract, so now we lose 2 starting pitchers including a good young one and a Gordon Beckham and we're just getting another Gordon Beckham back? I don't understand that all.
  21. It isn't the hitting so much as him walking 11 times and only striking out 5 times. I'd be shocked if there was a stretch the entire season where he did that.
  22. Just remember, this team sign Edwin Jackson to a 5 year contract 12 months ago. Who knows what the f*** they'll do, but you can pretty much bank on it not making senes

I spent all of undergrad on campus, but my situation was a little different. This is a private liberal arts college, so the dorms are (more or less) actually fit for human occupancy. About 80% of students live on campus. I also became an RA my sophomore year, later becoming the campus Head RA, which meant I lived alone with pretty much my choice of room/dorm. I like the convenience of it only taking 2-5 minutes to walk to class, library, student offices, reslife office, baseball practice (I still feel a strange mixture of missing baseball and being glad I'm not spending several hours a day with that s***) Soon, I'll probably be renting something with my girlfriend. There's some chance she and I will be too far apart school-wise to do that, but that's the plan. If I have any issues with funding, I might elect to be a GA in ResLife to pay for things if necessary as well
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 09:55 AM) Just switch to the Hawks next time. It was nice watching them score and score and score. Next time, I'll just put in the 2005 WS DVD and cry myself to sleep
  25. When I was a news intern, I was sent into media restricted areas with a cell phone to snap pics, record audio, etc
