A's vs Sox
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 01:38 PM) Whatever that changeup/screwball is, it needs work It's a shame, as he has a swing and miss fastball Hector is a rare example of a guy who has a better fastball than reported when he shows up in the big leagues. I remember Lucas Harrell being that way as well.

A's vs Sox
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 01:36 PM) That's why he has to be a starter, and why you can make an argument we could survive and compete in 2014 without Peavy a lot more easily than if we traded Rios/Ramirez. Definitely. 2011 is when Hector added the screwball and he had pretty much lost it entirely a calendar year later. Impressive that he has gotten by without the pitch that many thought was responsible for his rise through the minors. He has mentioned that the changeup is also new, so even though it isn't good it might be making his fastball better. His curveball is just okay, to me. Might be his best offspeed, though.

A's vs Sox
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) Looked safe to me, nice throw though Agreed on both counts. Rumor had it that Flowers had some tendonitis in the shoulder in the early parts of the season and his throws have gotten eons better.

A's vs Sox
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) They really need to work with Santiago on his offspeed pitches. He just doesn't get those pitches over enough or fool enough hitters. The screwball sounds cool in theory, but it's just not very effective. Almost never throws it now. FanGraphs shows it at ~5% last time I looked at it. He told the Score in the preseason that he had to quit throwing it because he can't find his release point in a bullpen warmup. Throws a lot of changeups, which aren't very good.

2012-2013 Official NHL thread
I have no means to get NBCSN in HD, so it's incredibly frustrating that we've been stuck on there. We had one game on CNBC, at least I get that in HD. Anyways,

Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus
Rogers can't throw stones about minor league systems because his evaluations of minor leaguers are hilariously bad. He thought Carlos Sanchez would break camp with the White Sox. Why would someone think that?

6/8 Games
Hawkins has reached base in all 8 games since returning from DL, going hitless just once.

2013 Minor League Transactions
Can anyone fill me in on the end of the Chase Blackwood saga? It seems like Bren disappeared from here and Chase disappeared from the MiLB without a trace.

6/8 Games
Very impressive from Hawkins since he returned from the DL. We don't often have prospects capable of doing what he is doing

White Sox draft thread: Day Three
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 05:41 PM) Does he project that well? I played against him years ago, while I am sure he has improved, I wasn't very impressed by the 14 year old version of him. lol Did you play travel ball in Chicago area?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) For those of us who don't follow the draft, please tell us about our No. 1 pick. Who is he and when will he be in the bigs, etc? Also any other highlights. Thank u. I did a writeup on him here. After you read that, head over to FutureSox and read their writeup. Then you'll know as much as everyone else. I did a writeup on all of our days 1 and 2 picks here and I'm sure there are similar things available over at FutureSox as well.

You're Hahn, who are you looking to trade first?
Would you trade Adam Dunn for Andre Ethier?

Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus
As far as what Marty is saying, I don't see any reason that Hahn and Ozzie would have beef. It wouldn't surprise me either way, but I'm guessing they weren't really bumping into each other that often on a day to day basis anyway. I think Hahn is a smart guy though and would know that we are not close to the moment where it would be appropriate to have Ozzie Guillen coach the White Sox again. There could be a time when the fanbase could accept Ozzie as a manager again, but we are not very close to that time.

Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus
I find it hardly to believe that a guy could just bulls*** his way into a World Series title as a GM. He had been GM for years, it was a squad he designed and had really rebuilt on the fly. That alone should really put the argument in doubt, if you ask me.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 12:56 PM) I hope Danny Hayes plays baseball better than CSN's Dan Hayes speaks on TV. He's getting better. Dan tweets at me about it, he basically said he was nervous but is getting more comfortable. He's a nice guy.

Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus
Just listening to 670 and Phil Rogers was being interviewed. First, I actually loved one of his crazy trade ideas - Dunn for Ethier. That is worth thinking about, but it isn't the most rebuilding-y move. This is off topic, though. Beyond that, he was talking about KW and essentially said he was lazy. He brought up him going to Egypt during AS break last year as an example, despite having no retort for "that's the work ethic of a man who has already surrendered his job to his successor." He then vaguely mentions that KW didn't put in the hours that other GMs do throughout his career. Realizing that he was saying something highly insulting, he said he was "good at delegating tasks to others" to soften things up. He said that KW's idea of putting in the work for player development was going to the AFL, deciding a player was an All-Star, then singlemindedly trying to get that player from there on out, regardless of anything else. When the hosts were wishing that they could be assured that Hahn is as pissed off and anxious to shake things up as KW is/would be, Rogers didn't seem to believe that KW ever really gave a s***. When asked if he thought KW was seething about the current team, Rogers says he doesn't think so. KW is looking forward to a life out of baseball because he presumably didn't enjoy it. Is anyone buying this? There are a lot of things to say about KW, but lazy is not something I've ever heard. Rogers paints a picture of a fairly disinterested, hands-off general manager. I don't buy it -- he may make questionable decisions like anyone else, but everything that I have observed and heard makes me feel that KW was an over-effort guy, not a low effort GM. Likewise, since I don't have a transcript to examine, did anyone else hear this interview and take away something different from it?

In all seriousness, this is why you don't wish TJ on somebody. This isn't something you just "get out of the way" because nothing is automatic.

Bryce to see Dr. James Andrews
QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 09:43 PM) I care, but there's no way I could ever get a fair deal from you for Harper or Stanton, Jake. By the way, DBAHO is being a layabout with his team. Anyone want it? He hasn't made a transaction all year and is somehow in 1st place two months in. It sucks how little contributions I've gotten from my top 2 round picks, not that Bryce has been a slouch. I've noticed that about DBAHO, and I don't know how I should feel about it. I mostly feel dumb.
