If Axelrod continues to do okay, I'll be all hunky dory about Hector dominating in strange bullpen usage

Q has gone from Buehrle to Johan in a hot minute

POTUS pretty candid in his anger over the failure of this bill
-
I'm a little confused -- how much mail sent to the POTUS would ever get anywhere near his desk? Why would someone send him poison to kill the POTUS himself?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) Well, you can't assume that laws will be made to allow government to access private pictures. That's a big assumption. Yeah, there's no way that wouldn't require a warrant

Quite a bit of overreaction about Hawk's talk about sabermetrics. He's obviously not going to wholly understand them since most people don't, and he's frustrated with the over-reliance on advanced statistics nowadays. I think the general sentiment that the explanatory power of advanced statistics is overstated is in fact a correct sentiment to hold.

I'll be pleased if he hits 40 HRs somewhere in the lineup

Heard on twitter: perfect time for Mitt Romney to release his tax returns!

Cliffs of the investigation: There are lots of pictures There are many people with backpacks The FBI might know which person in the photos put down the bomb They might know who that person is They probably haven't arrested them
-
daveweigel @daveweigel 1m What is "arrest" anyway? Aren't we all trapped in prisons of our own making? Life -- it's but a dream. @ChrisHarrisKS: The good news: If the suspect is watching television, they also have no idea what's happening. The ol' rope a dope!
-
daveweigel @daveweigel 24s You must be NBC fans. RT @Boston_Police: Despite reports to the contrary there has not been an arrest in the Marathon attack.
-
AC: "First reports, so often, are wrong" In other words, CNN will say whatever somebody calls and tells them
-
daveweigel @daveweigel 5m You mean there might be a dark-skinned man WHO HASN'T BEEN ARRESTED????
-
CNN's on screen graphics just say BREAKING NEWS now, with no headline
-
Sam Stein @samsteinhp 15m I said I was "taking a rest" not "making arrest"!!! Sam Stein @samsteinhp 23m years from now, we will all remember who was 3 minutes ahead of the competition to first report the arrest Joseph Weisenthal @TheStalwart 2m WTF RT @BostonGlobe: Boston Globe source reports the suspect is enroute to courthouse this afternoon. daveweigel @daveweigel 32s Pete Williams is a BO$$ RT @JimMaltese: @daveweigel Pete Williams FTW, both times.
-
SS will like this Joseph Weisenthal @TheStalwart 7m RT @guan: Is the arrest rumor based on an R&R Excel error?
-
daveweigel @daveweigel 15s And the "Days Since CNN Had to Walk Back a Breaking News Story" sign is reset to "Zero"

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 01:22 PM) CNN backtracking on arrest. Wow, idiots You could hear someone off screen saying "Double back? Okay, okay. We'll double back."

Interesting stuff in the pics, but hard to conclude anything. Pretty easy to make someone with a black backpack with silver straps look suspicious with just a few pictures -- why is he looking this direction? Why did he stand here for so long? etc

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 10:22 AM) I'd really like to know what the probable cause was in the petition for the search warrant. There had to have been something he did or said that made investigators think he was a "person of interest" for nearly 24 hours. Something a Judge had to sign off on. Would "Praise Allah" be probable cause?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 11:02 AM) It's not really hahaha so much as a lot of effort in the re-design. I submitted it six months ago (it's quite a process) and they told me to gtfo. Now with the redesign and oodles of content it was accepted. I coded it to rock out each article moving forward. Pretty awesome to see John Norris's NFL Free Agency article I posted show up on Google News and have jamokes organically hitting the website 15 minutes later. I guess I might as well submit to Bing and pretty much say "Google likes us, so obviously you will too". Awesome. I'm going to have some thoughts on the film "Stoker" for you soon.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) Except last year, the real strength of the team wasn't our bench, it was the depth of the young bullpen. Guys like Omogrosso, Heath, Marinez, Septimo, etc. Eh, I think the depth is fine with 12 guys. If someone goes down, sure our depth continues to help. Of that bunch, Omogrosso is far and away the best and I think he'll probably eventually work into a fairly important role with us. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 10:29 AM) 67 ABs. Yeah. He's talented, has nothing left to prove at AAA, and really isn't being asked much up here. I'm not happy for him to be here because he's going to be our new All-Star OF, I'm happy because he ought to be a fine backup player. I also think there is some chance he could be a productive ~.700-.750 OPS player with extended time, with decent to good defense in all positions. Finally, this gives us more flexibility to have pinch runners, etc when we are making substitutions late in games (see, defense for Dayan)

The fact is when your family makes a budget, they are not allowed to run a deficit!!!! Personal sacrifice!!!! The federal budget is just like a household budget!!!! You're all moochers!!!!

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) I still think Popovich should get it. But I think this year dispels all doubt that Thibs is a Doug Colllins burn you out type coach. He pushes players hard, but he's fair, and he never calls a player out to the media if he's not liking their effort. And as you saw with Bellinelli, he will immediately reward with playing time if they start to understand the defense in practice. And especially those big high profile games like vs. miami and ny, with garbage lineups, the teams play incredibly disciplined and get big wins. I think those get him a lot of buy-in from his players, who know the system works if they play within it. Yeah, that's always the worry...that he'll run players away. It is possible some guys choose not to come because of Thibs, but that's okay. All you have to know is that Thibs is pragmatic -- he obviously believes in defense as a primary, primary, primary concern. However, it doesn't matter if you can't score. Enter Nate Robinson. If he was a stubborn coach, Nate would sit until he grew 4 or 5 inches and started playing better defense. The way Jimmy has turned out is reflecting very well on both GarPax and Thibs as well. If we get something out of Marquis Teague, that's 2/2 for Thibs with young guys riding the bench but still getting better. Unfortunately, I can't see Teague ever being worth much to this team, even if he is pretty damn good. Do you think, if he became a good PG, we'd start putting Derrick at the 2? That would test the limits of Thibs' willingness to sacrifice defense. Do you see a squad with: Teague Rose Jimmy Taj Noah at some point in about 2 years? It seems like the one position we're still looking for longer term answers is 2, because we don't want Derrick or Teague spending that much time there. If we find some way to keep Lu around after current contract, I'd imagine we'd look at keeping Jimmy at 2. We would still have to be on the lookout for a real scorer at that spot and have either mythical scoring 2 guard or Jimmy be the 6th man. Our boy abroad may be coming into the fold around this time, so hopefully that helps our depth. Not sure how well or if he fits into Thibs' system though, hopefully he doesn't need to spend years on the bench to adjust. I also think it would be nice to keep Marco in the fold, if possible. He's a nice complimentary player with a bit of upside.

Don't put it past law enforcement to be a bit "selective" in determining who was worth investigating either
