QUOTE (Disco72 @ Oct 20, 2012 -> 11:05 AM) I've been hitting up a lot of local options such as the Highland Black Mocha Stout, the Foothills Octoberfest, and I tried the pale ale at a local brewery (Saw Works) last night. Thankfully, things are getting better in TN as far as brewing and selection. Of course, having Asheville so close also helps! I'm going to see if those things have made the trek across the state! Today is and ...and maybe more

In typical KW fashion, will his big offseason move be A-Rod?

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 20, 2012 -> 12:26 PM) Rodriguez, Jones and Dunn all have something in common that everyone should be weary of... Long swing + Age + Loss of bat speed = sharp decline. Those guys who made up for their swing with bat speed usually have a sharp decline. These players have nothing in common -
I think kyyle's post is a pretty balanced look at weed. It isn't the boogeyman, but there are some potentially big downsides too.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 11:04 PM) I've been trying as many Oktoberfests as I can. So far, Schlafly is my favorite this year. I have also found out that I don't mind an occasional pumpkin beer, oddly enough, I cannot stand the Schlafly Pumpkin. Schlafly is hit and miss for me. Favorite Oktoberfest? I haven't had too many. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 20, 2012 -> 12:40 AM) Yazoo hefeweizen out of Nashville. I will try that out, I'm in Memphis so I should support brewers trying to survive in TN where alcohol sales are fairly restricted.

If my end goal is getting drunk, I'm going to be having shots and/or mixed drinks. I'm all about efficiency. I don't like to get drunk very often, though. I really have never had a hangover issue before, usually can hardly tell. A few times I've woken up the next morning still drunk, but never really hungover with headaches, puking, etc. I will never drink beer with the intention of getting drunk. I don't like the cheap stuff and while I might get my buzz on after having a few, I drink beer because I like it. I'm not a fan of being under the influence of much at all, sans the occasional heavy dose of caffeine and related stimulants.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 07:18 PM) Im thinking thats my next step for my knees. Either that or open me up. Yep, this is my last effort at avoiding surgery.

QUOTE (G&T @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 07:48 PM) HA! I just bumped the Finer Things thread for a Alaskan Smoked Porter. Sorry. Oh, and Destihl is absolutely amazing. Their sours are very impressive. Son of a b****! lol, couldn't find that thread for the life of me. I'll let the masses decide if this shall be integrated into the old or whether we need a new.

I could have sworn we had a beer lovers' thread around here at some point, but for the life of me I cannot find it. I am somewhat new to beer, but I'd love to get some ST conversation of craft beers as well as any ol' beers that people like. I honestly used to hate beer, but someone finally told me that not liking Bud/Natty/Miller light beers was not enough experience to judge the potential of beers. I spent a little more time and care trying things and now I have a full blown hobby, though I admit I haven't gone hard after the IPAs and other high IBU beers for the most part yet. Seems like I'll really be a connoisseur once I fully embrace the hoppiest of beers. Anyways, what are you guys drinking? What's your favorite stuff? What's on your want list? What did you just buy? What's your cellar look like? We did a wonderful knightni poll in 2010, look here for results: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=80260 I've been enjoying wheat beers, particularly hefeweizen style, since I had hefeweizen at Destihl Brewpub in Bloomington-Normal. If you're ever in Central IL, check out the Destihl locations -- great house brews, pretty damn good foods too. You can buy 4 oz samples for $1-2 each if you want to try out a variety of things and you can take a growler of something home with you. Destihl's Strawberry Blonde medaled at this year's GABF -- I found it delicious as well. My true favorite hefeweizen is: I found out they're owned by AB InBev, so I like to mix in this as well:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platelet-rich_plasma I had a Platelet Rich Plasma injection into my infraspinatus today as well as into another site on my right shoulder. Surprisingly, pretty painful. Pleasantly, I got a Lortab prescription. Unfortunately, no working out for at least six weeks Come at me, fatness

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 01:37 PM) It's a form of intimidation and works to suppress the speech of employees. How comfortable would you be with an Obama bumper sticker on your car if your boss told you there will be cutbacks if he wins? Business owners don't get less of a voice just because people might listen more. You can't suppress the information.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 12:08 AM) get in shape that pain will be gone. dude, at the end of the day, it sounds like you're happy right where you are. and if that's the case, then that's great. i'm the type of person who wants to be the best version of myself i can be - but i know not everyone's as crazy as me. and more power to you if you really are happy. i just don't wanna look back on my death bed and wish I'd done it differently ya know? I think you're accepting a singular idea of what "best" is. I'm not going to say you're wrong, per se, because for instance I have the same hobby as you (improving our physiques, etc). Nonetheless, I think you need to realize that he isn't saying "I want to be less than the best." He is saying "my idea of 'best me' is different from yours and therefore some of the activities/goals you use to achieve your ideal person are not applicable to my conception of the 'best me.'" You're accepting a somewhat vague, unspoken, but non-compulsory notion of what the best way to be is. Since it is not compulsory, saint is not compelled to be exactly the way that social forces have constructed the ideal man. Okay, enough homework while Soxtalking

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 10:35 PM) Sp Lawrence O'Donnell challenged Tagg Romney to a fight on the air for saying he thought about taking a swing on Obama, after a 5 minute rant where he called all the males in the Romney family cowards and chicken hawks. Jesus dude He's gotten out of hand. He's been trending that direction for a while now, makes Ed Schultz look like a p****. Maddow is the only one I truly care for on MSNBC, but I don't mind Chris Matthews either.

I'm not going to decide whether any job is too good or too bad or not a good fit for you, for sure. It sounds like you really enjoy interacting with people, so don't be afraid to think of other options that can let you do that or even do it better. Healthcare professions do sound interesting and if you are anything in real life like you are on here, you may love being able to meet and help a huge amount of people on a daily basis. On the other hand, even an AA degree doesn't come free so I'm not going to act like you can materialize some qualifications out of thin air. I'll reiterate that I think you're on a fine track. You're also allowed to completely change your mind at some point if things change and you'll probably second guess things occasionally and that too is healthy. We also apparently love to help you in your second guessing on here . QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 06:02 PM) Alcohol is much worse for your body, makes you chemically dependent and is more addictive and actually kills people on an annual basis. You literally cannot overdose on marijuana. Couldn't have said it better.

So...even if unlikely, who likes the thought of LeBron ditching the Heat to join the Lakers in 2014?

On this specific poll: http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2...rld/#more-36284 There are a few statements in the excerpted sections that are cited via link on the actual site. There is also a section detailing exactly how the 538 system (which is regarded by most as the most accurate aggregator and thus most accurate predictor of election results) uses Gallup in its calculations.

I have absolutely no clue what Mitt Romney would try to do as President nor do I have any idea what his true positions are nor am I sure which of those things will influence the way he acts as President. I know that he has a Congress to reckon with that makes him fairly unimportant in many regards, and that in the things that are purely Presidential I don't believe in him at all. I do not want this guy talking to foreign dignitaries or even speaking on television where people outside the USA could see it. I also think he would let his party run over him to trample on women's rights, gay civil rights, and the like. Scary. I will hope he does well if he gets it, but I won't be putting my money on it. Luckily he could take office right in the middle of an economic recovery that will very likely make whoever serves the next term look very good.

3000 is large enough, provided the sampling is done well.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 03:06 PM) Romney wants small businesses owners to tell their employees how to vote http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/201...ees_who_to.html I actually think this is perfectly okay. I would want to know if a candidate is going to directly cause me peril at my place of work. If I work in pornography and Mitt Romney plans to ban it, I would like to know about this. Then the onus is on me to verify what my employer says, just like anything I hear anywhere else. If the employers want to somehow leverage people's jobs to bundle votes, then they can get in trouble as they should. In the end, more people talking is a good thing even if they might talk out of their ass (like anyone might do).

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 02:51 PM) It would seem ARod is probably going to at least attempted to be moved, but I think the guy in real trouble is Girardi. How he has thrown stars under the bus this series has been amazing. The only struggling guy he hasn't is Cano. He's totally panicked and it hasn't worked. Gardner with 4 AB since April? Had ST held the reins to the White Sox in the last month, we very well could have said the same thing about Robin Ventura. From a non-financial standpoint, I'd love to have A-Rod play for us. I don't think he's a bad guy. I can hardly remember a thing he's ever said, short of his using steroids...great, so did everyone else. I think he's handled this playoff stuff fairly well so far. Including the finances, could get tricky... -
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 02:35 PM) Virtually no chance the citizenship "issue" would have existed without the racial component. Agree. I don't believe it could empirically proven, but I am fairly certain that if he was white and named Joe Smith he would not have had so much skepticism about his past. But with that said, being black and having a funny name are part of what makes Barack, Barack. Had he not been black (or half black rather) he probably would be a different person...so this is all way too hypothetical. His appearance and ancestry play a tremendous role here, though.

Anyone consider the thought that we will actually try to add? Lower prices and improve product???

At least I don't see InfoWars links on here like I do on my facebook feed.
