Got the job done...but to what end? Oh yeah, Dayan Viciedo

I always kind of liked Pedro Hernandez. He was pretty redundant in our system, but he has the makings of a back of rotation pitcher if things go well for him. Such a Twins pitcher.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) I hit the wrong button on Chinese computer (normally it's spaced out for this typing in Mandarin characters, haha). Can't get it back to normal setting for some reason. lol

QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:42 PM) I truly hate defensive metrics. De Aza has been awful on defense all season, yet there's actually a stat that says he's played well?? Well -- any proponent of UZR would say to take it with a ginormous grain of salt with so few plays out there so far this season. On the other hand, his numbers for this season aren't a ton different than what he's posted throughout his career. This metric is based on a human rating each individual play with video review.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:40 PM) 29 and he doesn't really want to play CF. With a lot of wear and tear. And possibly 2 years older. Possibly 2 years older? Why does your font look like that?

QUOTE (JoshPR @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:39 PM) Does that include the runs he's given back with the bonehead plays and bad defense and baseball sense overall? It seems we're trying to justify what can't be justified that is bad play UZR would say that his range, etc. has contributed more positive value than his boneheadedness has subtracted value. He also usually is close to leading the league in baserunning runs added so that does push up his WAR number

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:33 PM) Wow he might as well be the tallest midget who cares offense sucks. I should say most of his WAR value comes from his baserunning and defense, but he's far from the biggest problem here. 28 year old CF who can bat his weight, I'm looking elsewhere for a target of my angst

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:33 PM) The problem is when does it simply become "who they are," part of their identity? Like last year, the good hitting with RISP lasted as a trend for 4 1/2 months. Bring back Camp Cora, haha. Well I suppose that was the other part of my article. This team over the past several years has been one that doesn't commit errors. Players like Alexei don't have a track record of negative ErrR as part of their UZR. Something has changed/this is one hell of a statistical anomaly

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:31 PM) De Aza should not be in the June plans. Leading the offense in WAR

QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:28 PM) Bad baseball is bad baseball. You keeping making fundamental mistakes, and it comes back to bite you. The stats will show one error that inning when really there were 4 terrible decisions made by a team that couldn't be playing dumber this season. I know your article today tried to say the defense isn't as bad as the error totals make it seem, but the bottom of the 3rd is a reason why it might possibly be even worse. I also said that preventable poor defensive play is pretty the main constituent of issue, so we're basically on the same page

QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:25 PM) Haha, are you even watching this game? The other team didn't gain anything on Rios's bad throw. Who cares? No stat should ever reflect that he made a bad-ish throw that harmed nobody and helped nobody.

Sox @ Twins
QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:23 PM) And I said they make horrible decisions that don't show up in errors, which doesn't always mean a runner advances an extra base. If the other team gains nothing, then it can't be much of a mistake?

Sox @ Twins
QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:20 PM) How does it take into account Flowers almost throwing one into the outfield when there's no play on the runner or Rios short hopping the catcher from about 180 feet out? If the baserunner gets an extra base the defense is held accountable

QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:17 PM) This is the worst defensive team I've ever seen for the White Sox. Not only do they make a ton of errors, but they also make horrible decisions that don't show up in errors. UZR's ARM rating covers that

QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2013 -> 08:16 PM) My gosh this defense is atrocious. Should have been an easy 6-4-3 DP. It would have been a real nice DP, but he made half of the hard part just by getting there

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 13, 2013 -> 07:47 PM) One more year, correct? I can't wait until he's gone. He was our best player this year. I'm not going to get mad that they could slow him down while he's our only threat.
