  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2013 -> 03:43 PM) I gotta feeling he's going to be there next year. Emery's own numbers that he presented in his post-lovie-firing press conference, seemed to support this. According to PFF, the source Emery quotes frequently, had Webb as our best overall OL
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 19, 2013 -> 01:50 PM) Just backing you up a bit However, the huge effort expended by this country during WW2 very well may be a large part why you and I are able to do just about everything we do in our everyday lives, and we need to always remember that. WW2 is really pretty fascinating and there are countless amounts of counter-factuals to be made. One of my favorites is the supposition that had Hitler not declared war on us, we would have let him run rampant in Europe as our gripe was with Japan. FDR wanted to get after Hitler from early on, but he never could get the government or the people behind it, even in the wake of Pearl Harbor.
  3. Rape isn't bad, as a matter of fact it's something that the liberators of Nazi Germany employed with great frequency during their triumphant march for freedom.
  4. I don't think Duke would turn his guns on me so I'm similarly unafraid of our military and government.
  5. Beckham should improve next year. Hes getting to that age and actually did improve last year. Either way, he is worth this year's salary.
  6. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 19, 2013 -> 11:39 AM) Childish name calling, a symptom of wussification
  7. I hate it when schools teach responsible gun ownership! Like, don't let kids even pretend they are running around with guns. Particularly, we don't point our guns at our friends. I had no problem following the same kind of rules at my grade schools and then letting my parents teach me how to use guns. Also, yes, it's a shame that women aren't home taking care of my babies. But mainly...why are we afraid of a government takeover? Do you realize who runs the government? Who populates the military? The only way to "take over" is to win a war of ideas. I'm dubious that a radical change in ideology is possible in the information age, but regardless at this point the way gun advocates talk about their guns just alienates people. It alienates me, who wants to own guns.
  8. The team has and has always had good players on it. We have two all-star caliber starters plus another playing like the all-star he used to be. We also have two 2 guards that are better than any of the 3 on the team that lost to Miami in the playoffs.
  9. Usually I laugh at how ND love blinds people. Now the ND hate does the same thing. Anyways, ESPN loses nothing when Deadspin reports this. People just watch every episode of Sportscenter to see what's going on.

I usually try to stream over d/l but the new stuff I usually can't find on streaming sites.
  11. The team's good, folks.
  12. Well, at least they gave us time for our last possession.
  13. Belinelli got raped that entire possession.
  14. Rondo fouls out. Very physical game.
  15. Hinrich made a shot....lol
  16. Garnett got away with murder a few times in this game. Looks like we're going to lose, but man this sucks to lose. We're better than them. Losing Lu certainly hurts, he'll probably be gone for a week or two at least with hamstring injury.
  17. The hate is becoming so rabid that I'm feeling more and more for Manti. He's an amateur athlete, a Mormon kid, I'm going to stick with his story until I see better evidence. I don't blame him for sticking with the story after he became pretty sure something strange was going on. You have to go to the grave with that story until Deadspin or somebody comes out with the hoax. If he was hoaxed, all those formative experiences with teammates surrounding her "death" are still real. He was still devastated and his team/family still had to help him pull through. There are lots of questions to be answered, but I don't like jumping on a person who only has vague, circumstantial evidence surrounding him and is the ONLY person who has the potential to be victimized. If Te'o is not a victim, then nobody is. I hate ND, but I don't automatically hate this kid. I need more than him being dumb and not strong enough to explain to the media that he had an online only girlfriend that turned out to be a fake person. Anyway, back to reading and waiting for more facts and testimony to come out.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 12:31 PM) Good. Now one more student can protect themselves from harm.
  19. I'm no saint, but if someone fooled me into a media frenzy, I'm just gonna roll with it. Do you think it'd be a little fishy if he just talked about dead grandma and didn't mention the other famous death he experienced on the same day for the same reason? If he was duped this behavior would be necessary. You don't want anyone to know you're that stupid nor do you want them to speculate the way we're doing now.
  20. Michael Morse tested positive for nandrolone (deca-durabolin). A smart cheater does not use this. He got flagged, admitted it, and continued to pop positive for every test for two years because that's how long it takes for nandrolone to leave your system. Back in the day, people selling OTC nandrolone (yes, this happened) often contaminated other dietary supplements with little bits of nandrolone that would cause positive tests despite not being large enough to cause an enhancing effect. They simply didn't clean their equipment. I do not believe Morse was one of these accidental positives. He also was given horrible advice from whoever gave him that Deca
  21. There is no "well the players aren't that good" tonight. These players are much better than Northwestern's (sorry NU fans, maybe when at full strength it'd make sense for a more competitive game). That leaves the coaching. Maybe things would be different if Groce had been here for 2 or 3 years, but he can't be losing to NU at all this year. We're a couple more bad losses away from missing the tourney. We need to look completely different next time out or else he needs to do drastic things with the lineup to send a message (to me and to the players).
  22. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 05:39 PM) My point was more that on the anniversary of their first "date," they presumably went on an actual date, which would be more likely to occur on a non-football Saturday. That, and the meeting with her that he spoke of at the USC game the year before (in November 2010) makes at least two in person contacts he's acknowledged on the record. He said they were acquaintenaces then friends before that (for a total of four years), which could suggest more meetings. However, Swarbrick said yesterday that their relationship was excludively an on-line one, so somebody is lying or seriously mistaken. He just said that she saw him at the game. He probably hoped you would think they met up at that game, but all he said was she saw him. She probably direct messaged him on Twitter after that.
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 05:15 PM) The hype was invented by Teo. He made the decision to embellish his relationship with his girlfriend (in the best case and was a complete fraud in the worst case) and tell these stories to the press. This situation is almost entirely of his own making. Kind of. Supposing he was frauded, he would have been legitimately torn to pieces over her death and everyone on the football team claims to have witnessed this. Then people are going to ask him how he feels about it. They will want to know more about her. He answered those questions in a way which seemed to make it more obvious that he didn't meet her in person, but without actually stressing that fact. After that, the media just kind of ran off with it and he continued to answer questions because he was asked them. Likewise, these nutjobs kept calling him every week to rekindle his sadness before games. I think the best way to look at this is to see how Te'o could be innocent. It is harder to prove at this point, partially because ND was happy to not tell the media. I know ND sucks and I really don't like them or their fans, but I don't want to set a precedent of letting the public convict amateur athletes of crimes (moral or otherwise) before all the facts come out or at least without enough facts to prove anything.
