  1. Jared Mitchell had some buzz going on after the CWS appearance. It was right around that time when ESPN was getting people to care. Gordo had gotten popular as well. I'm surprised we haven't pushed him up to play in AAA with Danks leaving....but I don't mind. Jordan was an example of a guy who we insisted on pushing up to AAA when the strikeout numbers weren't yet acceptable. The adjustment at a higher level was much more difficult and some would argue that very little adjustment happened. I'm okay with being conservative with Mitchell since he isn't fast tracked to a position of need anyway at this point. Let him work on getting the K's down at a level where the pitching isn't unfamiliarly difficult.
  2. Dayan can come a long way yet. He's only 23, hasn't repeated a level, and is pretty productive so far as it is. Even better, he's not a bad LF'er. He may stick out there for a while -- it's on him to stay in shape. I am concerned about his problems hitting fastballs, but he often approaches them with the intent to go to RF...which is a good place to start. I just want to see him go up there and be able to at least hit the inside fastball hard when he's looking for it...sometimes I think he goes up there knowing they will work him in with fastballs and just can't do anything with it. Magglio oftentimes would get worked inside with fastballs but his career began to turn when he would combine the knowledge that he'd probably see a fastball inside with a newfound ability to turn on it. All of the sudden a whole third of the plate opened up for him and he had a great career. Have we mentioned the raw talent on this guy? Sky high. Last year at AAA he had very serviceable BB numbers btw. He'll work it out, I'd expect him to finish around where he is this year with perhaps 30 HR's. With a good run, I'd say 40 is still in the cards...but not likely of course. Next year should be a big step forward and we'll really learn from what we see him improve on next season. We're just establishing a baseline this year, basically. He is talented enough to keep progressing and I don't expect his game to regress. He's better than he was the first times we called him up and I believe that trend will continue.
  3. Dayan and fastballs do not get along. Hope that gets remedied
  4. Q needs to start working deeper into outings if he wants to take the jobs of the big boys
  5. BTW, While Alexei has struggled this year for sure...his 27 RBIs aren't bad as far as productivity goes.
  6. This has been a well played game by our White Sox so far!
  7. I predict 1st place...we're better than the team we're competing with. Soxtalk is a pack of doomsayers. O/T, how do I put a user on ignore?
  8. I'll continue to make the Q = Buehrle comparison A lot of soft tossers have tried to be Buehrle, most have failed. Best of luck to you, young Quetzalcoatl
  9. I feel that the rotation remains a position of strength for us. It is also the one you will be most thoroughly fleeced to receive.
  10. System is too thin to trade anything. /thread
  11. I'm not a fan of trading for a starting pitcher at the deadline in general and with the added wildcard slot I'd imagine the price will shoot even higher. I'd rather focus our efforts on whether O-Dog can hold down third base or if there's a cheaply had 3B available.
  12. This is still a club that is trying to build for the future. Giving any non-veteran away is crazy and short sighted...I'll be disappointed if we do it. We need to be adding young players/prospects, not subtracting them.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2012 -> 04:22 PM) The only reason to keep stewart up is that they think he is doing a better job than those guys would. In fact, it's not unreasonable to think he could really benefit from being a AAA level starter anyway. exactly. He's a starter with a starter's repertoire. There is zero risk in having him start in the minors and there is a good chance that you get a reward in him getting consistent work and using the nice sinker-change-curve combo to his advantage. I really like his stuff, but making the poor kid a reliever didn't make any sense unless we were in "win now" mode

    QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2012 -> 04:19 PM) I'm pretty sure I heard the old one yesterday. ^^ and I love that
  15. Hang whiffum Not a bad way to end things for the offense, though
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2012 -> 04:08 PM) Mark Buehrle's offspeed stuff these days is spectacular, when you count how well he controls it. That's the only way it counts and the same way it counts for Quintana. Command makes everything you throw so much better.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2012 -> 04:04 PM) Yeah, but that absolutely means if he has a start where he doesn't have pinpoint control he's going to give up an 8 spot in the first 2 innings. Quintana reminds me very much of a young Buehrle. Flat, slow fastball that he isn't afraid to attack with. Offspeed stuff is present but not great.
  18. Tyler didn't look too good on a meaty fastball there.
  19. Quintana easily has the worst stuff on the roster but at least he produces Danks is slated for 2 rehab outings the last I heard. This gives you a nice long look at the 3 guys going for 2 spots in the rotation.
