  1. Maybe Vienna isn't the best place to get a surgery..... http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-1393172,00.html
  2. I know Sutcliffe does soem work in the front office there and said he wouldn't trade Jake Peavy for ANY player in baseball. They do want to get rid of Klesko quite badly. I think with them trying to contend that it's just not a fit. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of just uisng Schoensuck and then winnign the Ben Sheets sweepstakes in June
  3. For anyone that has concerns abotu Finley's age, just google him to find his workout regimen. It is very impressive and innovative. I think others should try spinal strength techniques. Players are afraid if they don't lift a weight over 25 pounds that they will lose strength. Steve has 36 homers that suggest otherwise. $8 million is a lot though.
  4. This is a tough deal where you get a lot but give up a lot. We would still need a fifth starter, and we'd only have B-Mac as potential trade bait in July. This is a dangerous trade. BTW, I would argue Jake Peavy is better than Perez but that's just one man's opinion as it doesn't detract from how good Perez is.
  5. DBAHO Also, this is the most fun thread I've read in awhile, thanks guys for the levity
  6. Any chance we sign Shawn Estes? I'm sure KW will just say he's been tipping his pitches for the last five years and Coop can fix him.
  7. Lasty year our rotation was actually fairly promising (remember when Este didn;t suck) and we had a healthy Frank, Maggs, Paulie, and Caballo in the heart of the order. This year the rotation is still in question and our middle of the order just lost one of the 15 best hitters in the game. Playing for draft picks.
  8. "Like KW in a flight suit a'la President Bush, at a podium with Miguel Cairo and a huge "Mission Accomplished" banner behind him" Now you two guys gave me a big chuckle! I guess there is fun in negativity after all.
  9. IF JR is DUMB enough to allow "through thick and thin" as a marketing strategy, "flying udner the radar" is certainly possible.
  10. Those who felt the Sox overpaid for Garcia (and there were a LOT of fans, local media, and National media) need to eat crow right now. Garcia would orobably make nearly Bartolo money. Well over 4/40.
  11. I think Lowe is at a $9 million minimum. Boras is his agent and will talk about the 21 wins of 02 and the postseason. If detroit is goign to pay my boy Steve-o $8 million a year, who knows what they'd pay Lowe or Pavano.
  12. Miguel Cairo? I'd rather have Pokey, but I know the numbers guys disagree. I hardly have the will to care after today.
  13. When will get official confrimation on the declines in arbitration for RObbie, Maggs, and Schoensuck? Should that be available soon?
  14. someone on another baord said Lieber to the Phils is close, no confirmation
  15. At this point I'd welcome Duque and his 49 year old shoulder. At leat he won't choke in the Dome
  16. I want Odalis, but I disagree with the guy who said he'll make $6. GIven the market, I think 3/24 is the absolute floor right now. I read somethere in someone's post (qwerty?) that Wade Miller is feeling better and he will be tendered. All of the sudden Shawn Chacon is starting to look like a better option. Forget Grili and Diaz. It might be time to fast track B-Mac. Do the Sox need a fundraiser or something? Should I start baking cookies so we can bring in a utility infielder?
  17. I have no inside info but I find it hard to believe Lugo goes back to Houston after they traded him for bouncing a women's head off his carhood like it was a turnbuckle pad.
  18. That is too much money. I don't necessarily agree that he'll stink in NY, but it could happen. I hope that we at least make overtures to Odalis now, but I think Jav is more likely. The market is rebounding people, we might indeed have to give what seems like a lot of money to a pitcher. Name a starting pitching deal that sounded good so far. I would say $6 million for Leiter (which he hasn't signed yet) is the only deal where I feel a club is getting a bargain.
  19. Do you think the animosity towards Willie is still related to him doing that espn/groupie piece as a white sox rookie a couple of years ago? I know I heard many were upset with him over that. Willie has really worn out on me but I don't mind starting the year with the caveat that we'd go get someon at the deadling if Willie stinks. I am not a Billy Beane boy but I agree that you spend part of the season determining what you have and then getting what you need. THis is not to say that you don't make offseason moves, but I think you can catch my point
  20. Kenny does have some guys staying for a while, but I worry that the payroll won't get stretched even next year. We could have Paul and Frank coming off the books (that's not a lot of homers or anything) but we'd have to pay Frank 3.5 to walk and guys like Conteras and other guys with backloaded money come up. Not to mention our sweetheart deal with Shingo will be over. I just worry that we are doomed to win 84 games. It's kind of like Golden State in basketball (except a winning record) where the team doesn't make the playoffs but doesn't pick real high in the draft.
  21. I am not all over KW yet. He's got to do something by the Thursday before Soxfest or things are going to get VERY interesting. Either way I'll have plenty of fun. We eitehr walk around optimistic for three days or we get stuff off our collective chests at the Q and A. I think they try to bring in Hawk as a way to keep the fans in a good mood but that didn't work out so well last year. I wonder if KW would come down with a "throat ailment".
  22. I saw the fabled triumvirate of Fassero/Yan/Borbon work out really nicely for the Cardinals in 03. I wouldn't touch Yan with someone else's ten foot pole.
  23. Roberts cna run though, and he fits the grinder mode. I'm not saying he's the best guy out there to get, but I wouldn't be angry about it. As for Qwerty, I wasn't insinuating that Carl is a bad guy, but the perceptions in NY and Boston prevent them from gong after/reacquiring guys like Carl.
