Diamondbacks sign Troy Glaus
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Wise Master Buehrle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I see what you are saying with his numbers but he still showed a lot of power in early 04 and even when he came back around the playoffs. I could be in the minority but I just don't think that many players are on the juice at this very moment. I look at the homer totals below 50 to come to that conclusion. -
Juan puts up big slugign numbers when healthy though. I think he has to be a DH at this point in his career though. I read somehwere today that the O's are offering Bedard and B.J. Ryan which seems like not much. Also, more importantly is that the A's will offer a negotiating window for an extension before the trade. It sounds like it will be bewtween 4/48 and 4/56. Not sure if this was posted yet.

If $16 to park your car isn't stealing, I'd like to know the name for it

I was getting to thinking after some repetitive posts that some of us have pet signings we want the Sox to make. I'm not talking about Pujols but rather the guys like Polanco, Hairston, Gibbons, and Nick Johnson who always pop up. This is a time to expose yourself as a mark for a guy or two. I'll get the ball rolling with mine being Steve Finley. This is a good chance to come clean people.

White Sox Sign Jermaine Dye

I think the Konerko market will start in about 2-3 weeks. With Sexson supposedly coming off the board very soon and Delgado not very far behind, the teams looking Paulie will sort themselves out. Also, Glaus being gone will expediate the process that much more. -

they say that shoulder won't hold up at 3rd. I just don't get this signing either. Also, I'm not mr. obp but Shea walks less than DJ ever did. -

If I'm not mistaken, and I could be, 4/32 was the original Cardinal offer from a few weeks ago. St. Louis will have the home-town advantage so I would imagine we would have to be looking at 4/40 or at least 4/36-but I think the Cards will go that high -
If we bring Scho back, I could see cotts getting moved in any potential deal. Three lefties is a nice luxury to have but it's not super-important. I'm not sure if a team like the A's would be interested in him in a trade given that they gave him to us before.

Dustin Hermanson Signed by the White Sox
Punch and Judy Garland replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah the Cub fans have to be mildly discouraged because all they have really done is retain and then lose some. I know Ryan Dempster has good stuff but I don't like their bullpen at all. I think a full year of helath from a motivated Nomar will be huge for them. I think it was smarter for them to sign Nomar for one year because with him and Sosa off the books in a season, they will have some cash to spend. Anybody else think that Glendon Rusch might not be so hot this year for them? -

Yeah I wouldn't lose any sleep over losing a 2nd-rounder if it means landing an Edgar Renteria. -
it was just a release of tension via laughter about the Sox losing out on another of their guys that everyone knows they are after. Lost of under the radar jokes to be had

Woddy williams signed a one year with the Pads. There goes anotehr of my suggestions. Let's go get 'em KW. I have sort of chagne dmy tune on Dustin. I think it could be a helpful signing.

I know we are joking but would it really stun anyone? We traded him for Pacheco and then still brought him back. I like Sandy too and hopefully the Rangers or teh Sox will give him a serious look at a coaching roster spot or a minor league manager bid.

Possible Sox & Pitt trade
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Southside hitmen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don;t necessarily KNOW that Peavy is better. It's probably splitting hairs. Neither one has hit the 200 inning mark yet in a season. This is always a tough argument because tehre are so many great young pitchers like Sheets, Santana (booh), Prior and even Josh Beckett. I didn't quite understand the better hitters behind him argument when he led the world in ERA. I would say his park helped that a lot, but whne you have Ryan Klesko's defense behind you, some things get negated -
Dustin Hermanson Signed by the White Sox
Punch and Judy Garland replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't understand why you feel that he's better suited. Hermanson has been a starter all of his life up until the final two months of 04. SHing has been a great closer in Japan and was sensational for us. One thing you know about Shingo is that he's not going to be afraid to close games. To each his own I guess. -

He had a couple of bad games in October that were probably on tv. That's probably why. -

I don;t mind him as a set-up man but would you rather have a guy that wa 19/20 or 17/20. The job shouldn't even be up for grabs in spring training. -

He better not be the closer either. Shingo earned that job. -
Willie's obp makes him bait for the A's. Also his defensive range is pretty good. I could see them being interested in him as a less than primary part of the deal.

bullpen arm i take it? It better not be as a fifth starter. -
Hudson would pull down more than 4/51 (Colon money). I know that the Yanks, Sawx, and Angels would all have a great deal of interest. MAYBE, you could convince him to sign for 4/44 in an extension but that figure would rise on the open market.

Just remember that since Maggs and Drew are represented by Boras that it COULD be a problem to sign Drew instead. Boras always seems to take the highest offer since he has little soul, but I wouldn't be shocked if he played a little politics with Drew and future free agents like Uribe.
-
Remember that aribtration is not a negotiation. IF we go in and offer 7.5, and team Boras offers 13, The arbitrator has to take one of those two figures. It is a system that needs to be overhauled.

gammons says the Red Sawx signed Matt Mantei to a one year deal. What a great pickup. I was hoping we'd look at him.
