The Sox will wait until Monday to announce their roster move for Orlando Hernandez, who will be activated so he can pitch against Detroit. Reliever Shingo Takatsu could be traded as soon as Monday to Arizona if the Diamondbacks can't strike a deal with Pittsburgh. If Takatsu stays, the Sox may elect to option rookie pitcher Bobby Jenks to Triple-A Charlotte to make room for Hernandez. Joe Crede's lower back problems might sway the Sox toward keeping infielder Willie Harris on the 25-man roster and optioning first baseman-outfielder Ross Gload to Triple-A Charlotte. A decision must be made Monday on Gload, who completed a 20-day rehab assignment Sunday with the Knights, batting .375

QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) Ben Maller who ever that is was on XM radio reported that AJ Burnett will be traded to the Whitesox. He also said that the Sox wants a 72hr window so they can reached a deal with Burnett before the trade goes through Did he report who the sox would give up

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) That's too much in my opinion. Substitute Owens for Anderson, and then it's more reasonable. I agree rather see Owens go over Brian Anderson

QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) On the chisox.com message board it mentions that Gammons reported that Burnett&Lowell will be going to the Whitesox. Did anyone in Chicago hear this I saw it on the board but havent heard any reports about it -

I caught the last bit of Buster Olney on baseball tonight last night but I swore he said something about that Sox are talking to the Marlins about Juan Encarnacion. Did anyone else catch this or am I mistaken

As they desperately try to find starters, just two words for the Yankees: "El" and "Duque." Unlike several other so-called pitchers they've acquired in recent years, Orlando Hernandez is proven in the American League. More to the point, he's proven in New York. Plus, he's usually a monster in October. And the Yankees shouldn't give up on October. Not yet, they shouldn't. A Yankees person said they actually did call about Hernandez several weeks ago, well before their pitching situation grew this desperate. However, they were told the White Sox couldn't trade Hernandez unless they could first acquire a hard-throwing starter such as A.J. Burnett or Jason Schmidt. The Yankees' own chances to land Burnett took a major hit when Chien-Ming Wang went down with shoulder trouble. Anyway, one scout cautioned, "Burnett's not the guy for New York," adding, "With his stuff, he should be a lot better than [37-38]." Florida seeks a prime major league-ready starter and significant bullpen piece for Burnett, who's in his walk year. The Orioles rebuffed Daniel Cabrera for Burnett. The White Sox probably would have to surrender dynamic young righthander Brandon McCarthy for a shot at Burnett.

Buehrle Peavy?? Garcia Garland Hernandez WOW

I heard Farmer say that about Peavy. Padres would be the stupidest team ever to trade Peavy wonder what the Sox would have to give up

A.J. Burnett, Marlins His last few starts have been erratic, but he's mowing down hitters and intriguing a lot of clubs. He's a free agent after the season, so the Marlins figure they're better off getting something for a quality pitcher -- when healthy -- who will price himself out of their budget next year. Potential Suitors: White Sox, Orioles, Yankees
