  8. Today on PTI, Tony and Michael gave what they thought the chances of the Chicago White Sox winning the world series were. Tony cracked a joke and Wilbon chastised him for putting midwest teams down! Both think Sox will have best record in baseball. Wilbon said, "Sox 10% chance to win WS." Tony said, "Sox 20% chance to win WS." They brought up 2004 Mariners who had most wins and failed to win. I'm not writing this to heckle, perhaps for response. Isn't Wilbon from Chi-town?
  9. their goes by dream about Oswalt&Lidge coming to the Sox
  10. Astros' organization concerning trades involving... ...Brandon Backe or Brad Lidge for another bat in the lineup? -- Aaron ...Roy Oswalt? -- Jeremy S. ...Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemens? -- Steven T. No and no, no, no and no. At this point, six weeks before the trade deadline, the Astros are "potential buyers." If they don't make any deals, the next option is to stay the course with what they have. The third option is to be "potential sellers," which general manager Tim Purpura said is not an option for the Houston Astros. To trade Backe, Lidge, Oswalt and Pettitte at this point would be counterproductive. Maybe this year will be remembered as a rebuilding year. Maybe the Astros will miss the Wild Card by two games. Maybe they'll win it. Or maybe they'll be completely out of contention by July 31. No matter what, future Astros teams will be built around Oswalt, Lidge and Berkman, and the young, immensely talented players aren't going anywhere. Pettitte has a no-trade clause, and it's unlikely he'd want to go anywhere even if the Astros wanted to trade him, which they don't. And the Clemens rumor took on a life of its own a couple of weeks ago when reporters from the New York area were already figuring out which game Clemens would start for the Yankees in the Division Series. If the Yankees had anything to offer the Astros in terms of Minor League prospects, I'd entertain the notion that a deal might come in the 11th hour. But the Yankees have very little in terms of trade bait. Being able to read any newspaper in the country online is a terrific luxury, but the problem is we're also able to read too many mistruths. I read a report that Lidge was "expendable" because of his "expensive" contract. But in reality, Lidge, who has a $500,000 contract and is one of the most effective closers in the Majors, is not yet arbitration eligible, so the Astros have little reason to look to deal him.
  11. I loved the old park and have many great memories but that the one that stands out was being the bat boy for one game aganist the KC Royals and got to talk to several Sox players but the highlight was playing catch with George Brett before the game he turnout to be one of my childhood heros..
  12. Im glad I put a thousand on the Sox at 40-1 odds at the beginning of the season to win the world series. Did anyone else put money down
  13. I remember when Kevin Bell crashed in the wall. He was never the same after that

  15. He's was b****ing about the amount of coverage the Sox have been getting in Chicago. "I turn on the WGN to see what they're saying about us, and I get 1 minute on the SOX, 5 MINUTES on the Cubs, and the Yankees win not once, but TWICE in slow motion..." Give em hell, Farmio.
  16. SAN FRANCISCO -- Deafening screams of "Schmitttteee!" greeted San Francisco's ace as he made his way from the dugout back to the clubhouse after another outstanding outing. All those cheers -- not to mention his brilliant pitching of late -- are providing a big boost for Jason Schmidt's ego. Schmidt pitched eight dominant innings to win consecutive starts for just the second time all season, and the Giants defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-0 Wednesday night. "It was huge," Schmidt said. "When you get late in the year like this and you're struggling, it really becomes a confidence issue. My confidence is back. I made a lot of adjustments mentally and physically." Ray Durham moved back to the leadoff spot and hit an RBI single and scored a run, and Moises Alou had three hits, an RBI and a run as the Giants won for the second time in their last five games. Schmidt (5-3) hadn't won back-to-back outings since beating Los Angeles and Colorado on April 5 and 10 to start the year. He built on his best start of the season last Friday, when he pitched eight shutout innings in a 4-0 win at Detroit. This time, he struck out a season-high 10 and threw several fastballs clocked at 95 mph, and said, "I feel like there's a whole lot more in there." He also extended his scoreless streak to 17 innings dating to June 11 against Cleveland.
  17. Larry Monroe is a major league scout for the Sox
  18. The Reds are sinking fast and looking to shake things up and Randa is one of their most valuable trading chips. The veteran is having another solid season with the bat and he doesn't hurt anyone in the field. Most important, he makes just over $2 million, which is affordable to just about everyone. Potential Suitors: White Sox, Twins, Braves
  19. Im sure if we made a trade for Schmidt the Giants would pay some of his contract for next year
  20. Tonight Schmidt performance aganist AZ Giants Pitcher IP PC H ER BB K Schmidt 8.0 114 5 0 2 10
  21. Schmidt has looked really good in his last 2 starts..
  22. We're now within hailing distance of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, and, accordingly, we're beginning to separate wheat from chaff in this, the 2005 season. As such, this time of year it's a growth economy for trade speculation and rumor peddling. So to perhaps get a better idea of what might go down as the deadline approaches, let's take a look at those players who should and shouldn't be changing addresses in the coming weeks. Should be traded Moises Alou, Giants The Giants are an awful team with a farm system devoid of talent and no hope of contention with or without Barry Bonds. This situation doesn't figure to change next season. However, they do have a handful of veteran commodities that could net the Giants some premium prospects in return and hasten the long overdue rebuilding process. Alou is one of those veterans. Alou is a defensive liability these days, but his bat remains potent. Last season as a Cub, he batted .293 AVG/.361 OBP/.557 SLG, and this season, in limited action, he's hitting .304 AVG/.404 OBP/.513 SLG. These days, Alou's best deployed as a DH, and that means he'd be a good fit for the Angels, Rangers or Yankees. If there's an NL team willing to tolerate his outfield glove in exchange for some desperately needed offense, it's probably the Braves. Roger Clemens, Astros To date, he's probably been the best starting pitcher in baseball. Sure, he's 42, but, based on his peripheral indicators, he figures to continue being an elite performer at least for the balance of the current season. Clemens likes pitching close to his Katy, Texas home, but perhaps the thrill of a pennant scrum would persuade him to approve a trade. He's expensive, but he's signed through only the current season. The Yankees, Red Sox, Orioles, Dodgers, Nationals and Rangers all make sense. Mark Redman, Pirates An elite performer? Certainly not. However, Redman's having a fine season. In 2005, he's made hay by flashing solid control and keeping the ball in the park. His 3.14 ERA is a bit of a fluke, but he's a reasonable short-term fix for a team in need of back-of-the-rotation help. Furthermore, he's 31 and unlikely to be effective by the time the Pirates get around to being consequential once again. Redman would be a decent fit for any team in need of a fourth or fifth starter. The Orioles, Yankees, Nats, Twins and Angels immediately come to mind. Jason Schmidt, Giants Trading for Jason Schmidt may be a gamble, but it's one some team should take. (Duane Burleson / Associated Press) The second-most coveted arm supposedly on the market is Jason Schmidt. Schmidt's 32, and the guaranteed/onerous portion of his contract ends after this season. With the Giants hurtling toward an organizational drought, re-signing him makes little sense. From the other perspective, he's a bit of a calculated risk for whoever decides to deal for him. Schmidt's spent time on the DL this season, and his control has been woefully lacking at times. Still, he's got name value and has been pitching better of late; finding suitors shouldn't be difficult. Interested parties would probably include the Yankees, Red Sox, Orioles, Dodgers (not that the Giants would trade him to L.A.), Twins, Rangers, Nats and White Sox (should Orlando Hernandez's injury prove to be serious and Brandon McCarthy continue to founder
  23. My only wish besides winning the world series is for the fans to go out and support this team packed the ballpark.. They should be selling out every game
