I was just curious so I can be excited about this team next year....It looks like we will be seeing what hopefully will be a division champion next season as well. I have a lot of faith that they will get an extension done with Pauly during the season...

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) We signed Hermanson to a 2 year deal I believe. We signed Iguchi to a 2 year deal with a 3rd year option. I thought we just gave Marte a 2-3 year extension last season. Frank yes, we have a buyout I believe. AJ is arbitration eligible. I thought we had Contreras for 1 more year? Didn't he sign a 4 year deal with the Yanks? Crede's not arbitration eligible? Alright yes...thank you 2k5...Anyways, whats Garland's situation? 1 more year of arbitration?

QUOTE(S720 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 08:10 AM) Jeckle, Are you saying Garland equals the value of Vazquez? If you do, you gotta be joking! Ask any team GM to choose between Garland and Vazquez, guess who would they select? You only see Vazquez's one bad year, and you've already thrown out the previous years when he pitched tremendously. If you think Garland is a sure thing, then Vazquez is A MUCH MORE SURE THING. With Buerhle, Garcia, Vazquez, Duque and Contreras, the Sox can be very competitive against any team. By the way, look for Contreras to be much better than what he's shown last year. Book it! Javy's one bad year was a Garland-like year as well. Nevermind that he dominated for the past 3-4 years in Montreal. Amazing what 1 bad half of a season will do to fans perspectives on things.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 08:03 AM) So you want to give up a sure thing in Garland for a maybe in Vazquez. Glad your not the GM... Contreas for Vazquez and now your talking... Oh come on...Vazquez is as much a sure thing as Garland, unless Javy is injured which I don't think he is since he passed his physicals. If the cash were the same, which it isn't, I would much rather have Javy than Garland. Whatever, bring spring training on...

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 07:04 PM) Agreed, but you can't just think that Uribe should have lit it up for the Rockies though. He only had one full season of at bats with them in 2002. Also, he is still only 25 years old so you couldn't have expected Uribe to put up stud numbers with or without the benefit of Coors when he was only in his early 20's. Oh yeah, I agree. I just don't think the Cell was to blame for his increase in HR. I just think he finally fulfilled his potential. Coors could have had a negative effect on him as well. He might have thought he could have hit anything out of the park. I know last year when he slumped Walker would always talk about him trying to pull everything. Maybe the simple fact of moving away from Coors helped Juan out. Whatever it was, thank you very much.

My Prediction: .285-18HR-70RBI-22SB-.355OBP Reasoning: I put him up to Kaz Matsui and compared Iggy to him (.272-7HR-44RBI-14SB-.331OBP) 1. Iggy will have less pressure on him, and can "fly under the radar" somewhat. 2. Iggy will be hitting in a much better lineup. 3. Iggy will be hitting in a much much much more friendly hitters park than Shea. In Japan (last 2 years), Iguchi stole more bases, had more SBs, more BB's, more RBIs, much better average, much better OBP, and a lot less K's. Worst case scenario, I can't see Iggy doing any worse than Kaz and most likely a smidge better (.275-13HR-55RBI-17SB-.340OBP). Even if he puts up those numbers, I wouldn't be disappointed.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) True. I just think the Cell is definately going to help Iguchi's power just as it did for Uribe. Of course, I'd still rather see a high OBP and alot of SB from Iguchi instead. Huh? Uribe hit in Coors before he came...Me thinks Uribe just lived up to his potential.

1. Podsednik 2. Rowand 3. Dye 4. Konerko 5. Everett 6. Uribe 7. Pierzynski 8. Crede 9. Iguchi w/Frank 1. Podsednik 2. Rowand 3. Thomas 4. Konerko 5. Dye 6. Pierzynski 7. Uribe 8. Crede 9. Iguchi I don't understand why there is a love affair with Iguchi for the 2 hole. Do you know how he will adapt to the Majors? I don't. And I don't want to have a hitter who for all we know could hit .250 setting the table for our run producers. I think it is a muhc much better idea to go with someone a little more established in the 2 hole whether that is Rowand or Uribe. Give Iguchi some time to establish himself to the transition and if he pans out to be better than Uribe, then stick him in the 2 hole. Another thing. I do not want to EVER see Crede in the 9 spot. I want the bases clear or containing some speed when Pods is up to bat. Crede in the 9 spot is just flat out dumb.
-
I would rather keep Willie. Iguchi is not a sure thing by any stretch. I like having a pretty good backup plan. One of our strengths this year will be our depth. We have things covered if someone was to go down or not pan out. Harris stays. If Iguchi pans out, Harris could potentially be used to pick up something at the deadline.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) I thjink the batting order will be played out in spring training. We all speculate on what it will be, and theorize on it. But when the players hit the field and show what they actually can bring to the team, that's how it will be determined. I really think Spring Training evaluation is overrated for most players. It's good for the young players that haven't done it before, but for if Rowand had a bad spring, you'd still see him in the 2 or 5-6 spot. Same thing with Uribe. If Iguchi has a good spring, I still see him in the 9th spot. Spring really isn't close to the real deal. But here's hoping that Iguchi tears it up in Spring. Or pull a Shingo. Suck in ST, dominate the regular season.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) Agreed. Even if Iguchi is batting 9th in the lineup he is still suited well there. He will be like having another leadoff hitter there. Exactly, I mean who would be the 9 hitter if Iguchi were to be the 2 hitter? Crede? I don't want Crede clogging the bases for Pods if Crede were to get on base at a decent clip.
-
1. Let history be history, even though i loved those uniforms. 2. Konerko will be the clubhouse leader. With the grisseled vet, Buehrle, chipping in.
-
I dont think there is anyway that Ozzie puts Iguchi into the 2 spot right away. He might, stress might, end up there, but I don't think that Ozzie will or should take the chance right off the bat. Why put more stress on Iguchi than needed? Let him adjust to MLB in the 9th spot for a while. It's not like we are dying for a 2 hitter. Uribe or Rowand can more than handle that spot. I think one of the reasons Kaz Matsui hasn't developed is because he was thrown to the wolves and had an enormous amount of pressure on him to be the man. I still think Uribe or Rowand will be the 2 hole hitter come opening day.
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) Yes, I think that's a fair assumption. And if you were White Sox management, you'd probably want a safety net for 2B in case Iguchi is a bust, yes? I know I would. And not a rookie ... a proven guy. To me, that means either a trade for a veteran utility guy, ala Graffanino or someone like him, or bring in a safety net at SS and use Uribe as a guy who could pick up the slack at 2B if necessary. There are really no FA's left at 2B. He's called Willie Harris.
-
1. We aren't trading Willie. 2. There are no better options for the 5th bench spot if Iguchi is signed.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) It was his first full god damn year in the bigs! Geez some people here give up on a kid so fast. Anyone who bats .250+ with a .340 obp in their first year should really look on the positive side not the negative. Ok, he didnt get 50+ bases like we thought he would but he he would have been playing regularly, I think he might have at least swiped 30 bags. Man I remember when most of the people here were saying give Crede a break it's his second year. Why not Harris? If we do get Iguchi good, but I would have Harris to split time, get some at-bats, and maybe get him in winter ball to work on hitting lefties. He's a good talent to have to the club. Jeckle, I would rather you not have a change in heart on this guy. If you like what you see, keep defending him. Cause there's people here who do have your back, or know what their talking about. Agreed. Why the hell is everyone acting like Willie is Mike Caruso? Everyone is so quick to get him off the roster like he has nothing to offer. 1. He's young. 2. He's got great speed. 3. He's very good defensively. 4. He's had 1 full season. He has the talent to be a Major League 2B. Some of you want to replace Harris will Valdez or Ozuna??!! WTF is that about? I know most of you have some anger toward Willie, but truthfully he had a pretty good season for his 1st season. If he was given this whole 2005 season to start, chances are he would improve on his stats last year. Some of you have just gotten out of hand with your distaste for Willie. A bench of... Davis Perez Gload Valdez/Ozuna Harris ...covers everything. Willie can play a little CF if necessary, but most likely won't be with Rowand and Podsednik.

If Carl tears it up he could spell a number of players. Rowand, Pods, Dye, and Frank. It's a good option to have. Carl will be a comeback player of the year candidate.
-
I think what a lot of people forget about Mark is that he rarely wastes pitches. Like that little blurb said, he averages 3.65 pitches per plate appearance. That is nothing. Who cares if he logs 230 IP per season. If his pitches are not up there, then there really isn't much of a difference. Mark's 230 IP is more like 190-200 IP for most other pitchers if their pitch counts were the same. Mark throwing 230 IP really doesn't scare me because he'll do it with minimal pitch counts.

You think the Sox will go with a 6 or 7 man bullpen? 6 man: Shingo Marte Vizcaino Hermanson Politte Cotts 7 man: Shingo Marte Vizcaino Hermanson Politte Cotts Diaz, Munoz, or Grilli?
-
Pablo put up some very respectable stats last year in AAA... 472 AB .307 AVE 6 HR 76 RBI 31 SB 12 CS 22BB/43K .759 OPS Plus, he's "26" years old... And he has had some short lived success at the major league level with Florida... I'll take him over Valdez...

Stop building up the suspense...It can only be bad for our situation. If the signing of Iguchi is not announced, then everyone will be pissed at KW...Bad, bad...
