  1. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) The hearing is going to be televised right? If so what time? On CSPAN right? Nevermind...it's on ESPN 10 ET
  2. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 08:49 PM) On the Score 670, Lester Munson is reporting that one of the congressmen is going to go straight at the players about steroids. He will ask Sosa and McGwire if they were using performance-enhancing drugs during the homerun race of 1998 and how often they used them! The hearing is going to be televised right? If so what time? On CSPAN right?
  3. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 8, 2005 -> 06:35 AM) phillips had a number of gems this morning on mike and mike after greenberg told him he was seriously considering selecting the sox to win the central. among the gems, he called aaron roward a "semi-regular fourth outfielder." did this guy pay any attention last year? to further taint his credibility, in the next breath he hailed the nationals' signing of loaiza. i'm not one to get worked up about national media, but that was just retarded. this guy is stealing money if this is the depth of his analysis. Why is this guy still talking in the media? He's doing the ESPN spring training games, he's on Sportscenter, Baseball Tonight, and radio. This guy assembled a 100 million dollar s***hole of a team in NY. He wouldn't know cheap young talent like Rowand if it bit him in the ass. He'd much rather overpay for players over-the-hill. Steve Phillips is an idiot.
  4. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 11:07 PM) Nothing but their image will take a hit. That is true. These guys also have egos the size of Texas. If their image takes a hit, that would mean a ton. I'm just saying, nothing is stopping them from 'fibbing.' Also, the way Thomas comes across to the media, the way he answers questions...I am not sure the results will be pleasant. So you think these guys are willing to risk prison time for their egos? I would hope for their sake that wasn't the case.
  5. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) Bonds already tried to wriggle out of some of his steroids accusations by saying that he did them "unintentionally"...so what's to stop him from saying that again? What is stopping Sosa from saying he didn't take them? What is stopping McGwire from saying that? What is stopping Palmeiro from saying that? Yeah, if they get caught in that lie, they could be in trouble...but as I say, you ain't breaking the law until you get caught. Giambi denied denied denied before being put on that stand. Sure, they might say they "didn't know that they were steroids", but even if they say that they still come out as cheaters and Franks looks beautiful. There is way too much heat on this steroids issue to deny it in front of Congress because chances are this is going to lead to an investigation and if you are caught lying before Congress that in itself is a hell of a lot worse than admitting to steroid use, where nothing but your image with take a hit.
  6. I think this can only help Frank, that is unless he really is using which I think we all dont think is the case. Frank gets the chance to speak the truth in front of Congress and basically say, "No, I have been clean and I have put up my numbers without any help." Meanwhile, Bonds, Giambi, Canseco, Sosa, etc. get to say "Oh, I used." This can only help Frank's image. Frank is going to look like a darling and the media is going to use his name as the "good" and the rest of the names as the "bad". If I was Frank, I'd jump all over this opportunity...
  7. How is Rowand more popular than Konerko? He probably will become more popular, but I wouldn't go as far as to say he is more popular at this moment. Rowand gets little to no publicity around the national media, where as Pauly is more well known. Also, when it comes to jersey sales and things of that sort I have little doubt that Rowand sales even compare to Konerko's...However, it's only a matter of time before Aaron starts getting some national coverage, but right now, he's mostly known just by true White Sox fans. As far as Frank goes, I would love to see him here for the next 3-4 years and finish his career out here. I don't think that JR will let Frank walk away, but the time has come where Frank just really isn't THAT valuable in terms of money. If the Sox buy Frank out and he hits the market, I have trouble believing that there are many teams out there willing to spend much more than $4 million on a player who is JUST a DH and on the downside of his career. I really don't think that the Sox will be picking up his $10 million option for obvious reasons, and they will execute the $3.5 million buyout. However, what style of contract will they resign him with? I would love to see an incentive based contract with garaunteed options if Frank hits a certain performance level. Taking into consideration that Frank will be getting $3.5 million from just the buyout next year, I could see him taking a base salary of $3 million with incentives to push it up toward $6 million. Whether he can make a little more somewhere else, I would hope, would not be a big issue for Frank as it won't be a huge difference in salary. I have a feeling that it's either take the Sox deal and remain in your home and team that you've been on for 15 years or move somewhere else for an extra million. But then again, I can't see many teams looking for an aging 36 year-old DH...Even if he is Frank Thomas.
  8. Don't you think we'd have to be considered the favorites in the division now?
  9. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 10:06 PM) Actually it's sad. It shows that Ozzie still carries a vendetta over AROW. He was hotter then heck and was still in the 7th hole. Ozzie needs to get rid of a jealous vendetta and put AROW where he belongs, which is the 2nd or 3rd spot. A place where he can carry the team. So Ozzie cost this team runs and wins because he didn't like a player? Somehow I find that extremely hard to believe. You can say he batted Aaron 7th because of stupidity, but to say he batted him 7th because he doesn't like him is absurd.
  10. Some people talk like Konerko batting 4th is a slap in the face. Like "Dye hasn't earned it." Pauly is the cleanup hitter. You put your RBI guy there. Pauly is ours...Dye has proven himself over the course of his career. While Rowand is very good, I don't think he's ready to take on that roll yet. Dye is a fine #3 hitter for the time being...
  11. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) Silly aren't they. Actually it was Guillen and Kenny. But then research isn't really necessary. Care to call Frank an ass? I think it's an ass thing to do...
  12. I love the part where is says the White Sox pen gets the nod over the Cubs' "barely"....WTF?
  13. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) $$$$$ Crede doesn't make that much, Weaver makes big coin, $7M or more. Sox would not do this deal, they cannot pick up this much payroll. I wouldn't see the Sox keep Weaver around....I think he would be traded right away. As someone mentioned, Toronto would be a good fit with Hinske available and maybe a pen arm or a couple of good prospects or whatnot... Or, if Jerry wants to spend the money, let him...
  14. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 06:37 PM) I agree this is crap. But to cross-thread here, it would return a key figure in the Sox Tigers fight. Maybe Weaver could plunk Ordonez and start another fight. Spin Weaver off on someone...It's not hard to trade a good SP to someone. Hinske is the odd-man out. Pick him up, and then spin Weaver off on someone. Weaver's trade value is much higher than Crede's at the moment. If the Dodgers were to do this, then do it. People have been bickering about Crede and how he hasn't done crap here, well now is the chance to trade him for someone good, and everyone is barking at it. I, for one, would do it in a heartbeat, and figure out somewhere to fill Crede's MVP like production...
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 29, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) So basically Thomas is almost a lock to be back next season, as he'll probably pick up his $10 million option, as he won't get that figure from another team, unless he has a really good season, which won't happen considering he might not be back until June. Otherwise the Sox can pick up the team option, or buy him out, and let Gload into the lineup everyday, or resign Jurassic Carl to be the DH. No, I see no reason why KW will not buy Frank out. He most likely will be back, but at a much reduced price... And for those fools who would rather have Frank over Pauly, why? Frank is a full-time DH with health issues. He's not getting any younger, and his skills are declining. Pauly is young, plays defense, and is just entering his prime. That is a pretty easy choice.
  16. 3yrs/28-30 million should get it done...Pauly is the team leader and a face that fans recognize. You don't dump Pauly. He's truly a genuine person and one heckava hitter...I think it would be hard for KW and the Sox to lose Maggs/Carlos/Pauly in back-to-back seasons. I think Pauly will be here for a while...
  17. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) Whatever happened to Mark Wohlers? He had a 100 mph fastball. My point is that a pitcher can have a 100 mph fastball but without any control it doesn't mean much. He had a 100 mph fastball and was pretty good with it. I doubt he throws 100 anymore. Also, does Jenks even throw 100 anymore? I thought I read that he was 95-96 right now....Maybe not.
  18. If we are gonna get a pen arm in return for Willie we are gonna need to find a team that has a pretty deep pen or a dier need for a 2B. The Cubs will not trade Farnsworth for him. Why would they? I personally would love him here, but it would take more than Willie to get him. I like the Cards idea as they always have pretty good young arms over there.
  19. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) I just don't think Urbina is worth the price. He is going to make $4 million in 2005 and seems to only pitch well in the N.L. I don't see how we can add that payroll. Although, I would have no problem dumping Willie for him. Yeah, we as fans don't think we have the payroll for it, but if KW/JR did trade Willie for Urbina then we have the payroll space. I don't think we should be talking about payroll anymore, as we filled all of our needs and are just looking for ways to further improve. Hey, if JR is willing to spend it, let him!
  20. I'm not talking about just Urbina, if the opportunity arises to trade Harris for a quality pen arm, then we should take it. Signing a veteran MIF wouldn't be tough or expensive. I believe Aurillia just signed a minor league deal with someone.
  21. QUOTE(Tannerfan @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) I agree about always needing more pitching but as we speak, our bullpen is good and our backup infield is non-exsistent. Plus Crede is not the guy. Crede is and will be the guy next season whether people like it or not... Our bullpen could be great...Something I would much rather have then just a decent backup 2B/pinch runner...
  22. QUOTE(Tannerfan @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) Yes, Yes, Yes, I agree. Don't trade Harris for someone we don't need. Get an infielder, maybe even a decent 3rd baseman. You can never have too many arms...A pen with 6 quality/reliable pitchers would be an amazing benefit...Question is, would Urbina over Cotts help us more than Harris over Valdez/Ozuna or a veteran MIF? I say yes, but it is debatable... As far as cash is concerned, if JR is willing to spend a little more, then we shouldn't argue because we have filled all of our "needs" already...Now we are just looking for overall improvement.
  23. I'd prefer to go after a quality left hander, if we are gonna add to the bullpen. Who are the quality lefties out there that could potentially be available?
  24. We get Everett off the books and we'll buy Frank out and sign him to a much lower contract, so that's about $7 mil off the books which will help with the in house raises. We need to win the division. We won't need to fill many holes next off-season so maybe JR would be willing to nab a stud FA. Who knows...2005 first.
  25. I really don't think the Tigers would have a problem trading Urbina within the division. His contract is up after this year, right? I don't think that they really truly think they can win the division this year, plus they already have Percival. If they got some decent talent that filled a couple holes, why wouldn't they? They are a young team, and Urbina probably isn't in their future plans. Our pen would be amazing... Shingo Marte Urbina Hermansen Vizcaino Politte Only thing I don't like is only 1 lefty...But that is some f-ing pen.
